tbh a bit disappointing to not see the part where you go to german auto and see everything that's wrong. also a bit sad to see production for other videos meant Tommy didn't even have time to use his whole budget, kinda kills the vibe a bit for me. would like to see "what if you actually did the best you could w/ your budget", not "what can you do with a couple evenings worth of time"
So andre had about $7000 to spend and all he gets are new tires, steel wheels, and a useless homemade push bar that reduces his approach angle. Roman is CHEAP!
Yep kinda annoying like especially since he didn't even pay for a real lift kit
Andre should have at least been able to get a rear locker.
I think they when a little light on all their builds. I don’t think they maximized the remaining balance on their builds.
“Builds”
And the tires were free for all of them 🤣
Considering the budget this is underwhelming. Nathan should have put in the cheap lift. Tommy should have too. Andre could have got a better lift and rear locker. This has really amounted to putting tires on from a sponsor.
💯 it’s kinda sad really. I’m starting to see a pattern here,I really thought this would show some cheap off road builds not some cars with tires
Your lucky they changed their own tires much less put a lift in. First time in a year they used the lift

Had high hopes for these builds , especially Andre, but no locker? Wtf. That would have made a bigger difference than all his other mods combined.
They dropped the ball with this one. 7k left on the budget and all you can afford is a budget lift and some steel rims? 😂
Almost $7000 available on the Liberty would pay for an actual bumper, rear locker, tires, and a cheap lift. That “custom” bumper is awful. Also, the CJ needs lockers and the cooling system fixed. It got some painted wheels, free sponsor tires, and the top removed. Was hoping for a lot more out of this series. Also the KK was just a stupid purchase in the first place. Really guys?
LOL, this is supposed to be a joke and fun, not actual serious builds.
@TerraFirmaX its supposed to be a test of cheap jeeps. Not a joke in anyway, no idea why everyone thinks its a joke. This channel is a joke
I think they want to make entertaining videos but don't want to put in the work
@@Jacobtheunwise it's supposed to be whatever they want it to be. Get over yourself, don't watch it
@@TerraFirmaXit's neither a joke or funny. Waste of content
Great content, but the first episode in this series made a big deal about the $10,000 budget cheap Jeep build. This episode barely speaks of the cost and very few upgrades were made, other than wheels and tires and a few other small changes.
The 10k included the price of the Jeep. How far can one stretch that?
@garysarratt1 well one of them had 7k left for the red liberty and did basically nothing
@@flatlinedatredline We regular folks would take a good while, ask around, go on marketplace etc. before possibly coming up short. Minus David’s fabrication, these guys go straight to the parts store and get new stuff (for a short video series). Their money probably didn’t go near as far as mine would have.
@garysarratt1 all he did to the red jeep was rims and tyres. Their tyres are free and brand new steelies only cost a couple of hundred . Stop defending their laziness
@@Jacobtheunwise I don’t even know these people. I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt. Playing devil’s advocate. Just because I’m not parroting the other comments doesn’t mean I believe everything I see on RUclips. Almost everybody in the comments has approximately the same amount of info, which is very little, so why not discuss it? I will ask them for receipts on Paytreon.
You still could have got a XJ for less than you guys paid for any of the rigs you got, and upgraded it far more for the same price.
Okay Im super dissappinted in what I thought was going to be a great series. I cant comment on the CJ or the Jet edition, but I own a KJ Jeep Liberty (the red one in this series) On my jeep, I got 245/75R16 BFG KO2s for $1200. Engine, Transmission, Gas tank, and transfer case skid plates for $1300. A full Old Man Emu lift kit for $1100 and an upgraded roofrack for $700 all new. I know they didnt even look for a bumper because the first thing that always comes up is ARBs $1200 one (nothing cheaper than 1400 my rear end). Those all new part purchases would put a man at 5,500. $8,500 total. ARB also makes a rear locker for the jeep liberty thats 2,000. If you drop the arb bumper you could get that instead and still be under budget.
I really thought this would be a 10,000 dollar challenge. Dumb dumb dumb.
Nice build!
@zach… Thank you for the very detailed comment showing what could have been done to the red Liberty, at least. And yes. Nice build.
Didn’t hear if the black Liberty’s transmission problem got fixed. Also $7500 for the CJ5 and didn’t do anything to the engine in 2 months??!!
Or the roof.
I swore I hear 7000 for the Jeep and 7000 for upgrades but it turned out to be 7500 for Jeep and 2500 for upgrades but even didn't seem like 2500 of stuff.
@@RuddlineWell thermostats are extremely expensive for it. So he couldn't even afford to put an electric fan on the radiator. Witch would have been a much better upgrade. 😒🙄
You could buy a locking rear diff spartan locker for $300. Idk why Andre didn’t do that
Why didn't any of them spend just a little and put a mechanical locker in the rear axle?
That would have required some thoughts.
Because none of these clowns can turn a screwdriver, let alone install a locker.
I started this series pretty excited, not a fan of liberties but figured I'd get to see some interesting use of a limited budget to get the most out of them. Then there was the CJ5 which I know from experience can be a great off-roader for pretty cheap. Now I'm less excited as it's basically just been tires and wheels mostly. Front and rear lunchbox lockers for the CJ5 would have been something like $500 and an afternoons work, then spend the rest of the budget fixing the cooling system and you'd probably still have some left. I don't know liberties so I don't know what's available for them but I was expecting more than tires. I normally enjoy the content but I think this series is a missed opportunity. Hopefully the next one will be better.
These guys can't do their own work. gotta pay a shop $1k to install lift pucks
"We bought 3 crappy used garbage jeeps and put new tires on them! Now watch us try to squeeze 4 episodes out of it!"
For 10k id have brought a wk grand cherokee with the hemi and e lockers. Spend 5k there 1k on rubi wheels and tires 300 on a lift 200 on spacers and 600 on a winch add say 500 for fab materials and they would have to bring that new rubicon to keep up😂
I was really expecting to see a cheap jeep build not a falken tire commercial. Why is tfl so scared of buying a basic $400 lift kit ?
And $400 locker!
So the majority of the functional upgrades were just tires supplied by the sponsor? What kind of clown show is this? 😂
Wow, what a sad excuse of a build episode. 7k budget and thats all we get? An ugly tube bumper fabbed from scraps? Did all the budget get blown behind the scenes or something? The liberty alone could have had a cool lift, custom bumpers, a roof rack with some light bars. Nothing?
Not even lunch box lockers anywhere? Just a tire change, popping the side steps and a top off? I hope Falken got their money back cause if they had any say in this I'll never buy their tires.
I was excited for this series too, if nothing else just to see what a real budget could do to that little liberty. What a shame
4wheeled in Colorado for over 20 years. 9 times out of 10 I've run out of traction before running out of clearance. And when I run out of clearance I back up and take the bypass. Good tread and at least a rear locker will get you up all but the worst at which point its more enjoyable on a dirtbike or atv anyway.
I believe the tires were given to them from Falken in a older video, not really much uprades and no germin garage checking the jeeps
2500 truck episodes has been a better series
200 buck’s gets you a cheap 2”inch lift kit, that’s a game changer for the libby.
No lockers??!! No winches!?!?
I definitely thought there would be more work done on these for a 10k budget. A bit of a let down.
If Lizzie on Matt's Offroad Recovery can learn to weld really well, so can Tommy. David - stand back and just teach Tommy how to do it himself.
I think lizzy is far more intelligent and a born hard worker
Modify but does virtually nothing to actually aid in offroad 😂
The number 1 change on all 3 jeeps was proper tires…how doesn’t that help?
Sure it helps but also required if you’re are running a sponsor focused and funded series.
@@is6566 You said “nothing to actually aid in off-road”. Then you said “sure it helps”. That means you were wrong or lied. You’re troll with nothing useful to add to the conversation.
@garysarat LOL Buddy. Two different users and commenters. Are you blind or just can’t read? So funny and you are talking about trolls.
Both Liberties should have been upgraded with Mevotech upper control arms. Simple, easy and inexpensive upgrades. Half the price of ARB and Rocky Road outfitters. Rock Auto has them both in stock. I installed them on a 05 Jeep Liberty Renegade and 2012 Grand Cherokee.
Tommy's explination of the reverse threading on driver side lug bolts opened my mind. I have an urge to start researching wagon wheel designs and history. Thanks for the video!
David is a MacGyver disguised as a rancher
It’s that bad it’s not even funny ... just one long advert for tyres and automotive lifts
Tommy should have thrown a lunchbox locker at that old CJ
Really disappointed that Andrea and Tommy didn’t spend the rest of their budgets and really build those Jeeps. All of them could have at least Lincoln locked the rear ends if nothing else.
wheels and tires (and half of this was covered)
then lockers and lift
I am quite disappointed so far, I expected far better.
was kinda looking forward to see how the liberties would turn out, but was left utterly disappointed.
What a disappointment. Waist a bunch of time showing us an ugly bumper that nobody would even want, and completely ditched the idea about having money left to do upgrades. This is just a commercial for tires. Completely abandoned the premise for the series. Hot garbage. Do better.
So where exactly did that 6500-7 thousand dollars go… the tires were free and the useless bumper cost maybe 200 bucks in metal. This is just a dressed up tire commercial
So by "build" they meant a set of free tires. Andre got screwed on this. They should have let him get a lift and a locker and if there was money left over go for some bumpers. These "builds" are a let down.
Going to agree with others that this is disappointing, you shouldn't have hyped up in prior videos that Andre had $7k left for his "build" if this is what you were going to do with it
Sunday Mornings are for TFL!
why not stretch the series even further
I like this channel but can’t agree more with you. The Tire Sponsor demanded at least 4 episodes and this is how they got there. Instead of doing real upgrades on their Jeeps (which other than Nathan they all had budget for) and showing those mods in separate episodes. This is not Cheap Jeeps Series but Cheap TFL Episodes Series.
SO HOKEY...... i mean had 7k and you do nothing with it..... this was a waist of an episode.
$150 gets you a 2.5 inch spacer lift. Why would you not?
Greedy
TFL put a lift in the Barnasium!!! maybe you guys should do a ranch update or did i miss it!!? (you guys should do a bloopers episode or outakes)
You missed it. Happened a year ago I think.
Just so you know. You need to pull the front face off the KJ to do a radiator or condenser. I would never weld a bumper directly to a frame that’s so hack.
It’s suppose to be hack😄
@@fritty9927with a 7k budget, you can buy a proper front bullbar with actual rated tow hooks, not bent 12mm bar welded to 5mm box section.
Andre could've done so much more with his jeep. What gives?
Guys like David created the aftermarket for Jeep, his stinger should have went on the CJ-5
No it should have went on a power wheels toy. No real use on a jeep when it's made from exhaust pipe and hangers. Lmfao. These guys are a joke and no real experience in anything but maybe how to mix water with dirt to make mud. 😳😲😳
nice tire commercial guys this video could have been so much cooler
Looks like next week we finally get to the harking off roading
Those white wheels and tires look great on the old jeep! Fun series, thank you!
Love that Nathan is wearing a Aquabats shirt, they rock
Indeed. I noticed that as well. I interviewed them years and years ago, and they were a blast.
Stopped watching after I realized all they did for their builds was wheels and sponsored tires
🤣
Wheels and tyres are not a build...
I hate to say it... These dudes are a joke... For 10k.... Could have bought a Cherokee (xj), (yj) and even a TJ for that much... What a waste of money and time.
I had a lawnmower that I started with a screwdriver. Classic.
Jeep liberties are junk. My wife’s jeep liberty was in the shop nine times in one year before we traded it in for a Toyota RAV4. The Jeep only had 65,000 miles on it too. Haven’t had even one problem with the Toyota RAV4, which has close to 90,000 miles on it.
You don't even have a Harbor Freight $70 impact wrench? Well, I suppose ya'll are journalists and not mechanics so that explains a lot.
Pretty weak overall. Did Tommy upgrade the CJ brakes at all or no? It's kind of a big deal IMHO 😂
Damn they really milking this series 😂
Wheels and tires is not a build
At least the poledancer has something to swing on
I think Andres is the most practical for someone buying today. You would have basic modern stuff (AC, Airbags, etc...) But also spent the least amount so you could really beat the hell out of it. Nathan spent too much and I wouldnt want to damage the CJ5 (rather do a decent restore)
Fix the cooling system on the cj5. Remove the obnoxious gauges and get some lockers
Andre should have just bought spacers at least for the front. IT would have given a wider track and reduced rubbing.
Lmfao plz don't use that for recovery it's exhaust pipe. And it will become a projectile and kill someone. Not a good example to show people.
If they showed up at any of our trails we'd run them off. Hook a line to that and at a minimum it's flying who knows where... worst case scenario someone is going to die.
For $2k you can have a beat up XJ with 2 lockers that will outpace any of these
Thanks for a set of useless, milktoast "builds". Yaaawn
Can't wait to see the next episode!
The old CJ-5 is the only real Jeep out of the group
500 dollar xj. 600 dollar lift. 35 12.50 15s and lunch box lockers. All for $2000 and would have went farther then those 3 jeeps put together.
You arent finding an xj that has a running motor and non rotted frame for 500$ anymore
Those all turned out really nice, but Tommy’s CJ5 is awesome!
So true
Now it actually looks like a CJ and not a DJ
Aundre after installing Nathan's tires: "Nathan, you owe me lunch!"
Drink everytime someone says hark!
Custom bumper looks like garbage lol
Tommy nice work! I'm just concerned about the reliability of your vehicle.
Dasey called she wants her jeep back
Good idea on the series. Poor execution
I just finished watching episode 2 about half an hour ago. Amazing😄
Hate to disagree, but hmmm not a good lookin' vehicle, Dave.
Oh, Andre . . . it now has the turning radius of a battleship. Luckily, Dave . . . kinda fixed it.
Good morning TFL!!!
Modifying your car is the best and cheapest way to build the car you want without breaking the bank
Lets gooo love these videos W budget videos
It’s always good to see David in the videos!
Falken Wildpeak AT3S are the best tires on the road. We have those tires on our service trucks and one set has 105k miles on them.
Because that’s the most important part of an off-road tire. How many asphalt miles it can do
I got a used set of the older wildpeaks and 2 years of driving on them only used about 5%
@trahar6257 People are plain s@&$pid. The guy brags about having 105k miles on the tire but doesn’t think it through why oh why that many miles are possible? What feature makes it possible to have that many miles on that tire? And what are the unintended consequences of that feature? Well, let help him out. The reason you can do that many miles on that tire because the tire is rock hard and has practically zero wear. When it has so little wear then it has very little traction. When you have little traction then you can slip, slide, fishtail, takes longer to stop, will have worse wet traction, in summary you can have accidents easier. But hey, it lasts FOREVER! If you would have steel strips for tire that would I bet lasts for 200k miles! Why not try that!
@@trahar6257 it’s not an off road tire. AT is all terrain. We drive on the highway a lot but have to off road some times so they work well.
@@4wdtennessee459 I have a buddy who started using them on his work truck. He has a 1 ton Chevy. Pulls a trailer almost every day and he got 90k out of his.
GREAT VIDEO GUYS 👏👏👏...
I feel like I need Falken tires now.
These are my favorite ones lol.
great video , espicially for me as owner of liberty kj....fun
that the upgrade
Dear TFL and TFL Fans,
I sold a 96 Cherokee Sport and got a 2006 Jeep Liberty from my Mom when she got a 2011 Grand Cherokee. The plan was to build the Liberty into a fun little offroader. However, she likes her Liberty better, but I like it too! She would be happy if I offered to trade, but I'm not sure which vehicle would be the better choice for a build.
So my question to all: Which vehicle would be the better offroad choice? I'm asking because I love my Momma and want her to be happy. So, if the Liberty is the better choice, I will help her find another, newer Liberty that she can trade her Grand in for. However, if it's the Grand Cherokee I'll offer her a trade and money to make up the difference.
Please Advise. Thank you
Very disappointing series... With the budget so much more could have been done to make these Jeeps better. Instead, you just throw some sponsored free tires on them and call it a wrap basically. No lockers, not even any decent cheap lifts. The things besides free tires that would make the Jeeps more capable. Especially disappointed in the red Jeep liberty, he had 7k and put $200 pucks and $500 into rims and made a useless bumper thing... The Jeep was less capable after the "upgrades"...
The Yellow Jeep, $7500, had $2500 to fix his engine and put in lockers, but nope, just tires and done...
My man rocking the Aquabats tee!
Hark! Was used at least ten times...
Papa worry pants still thinks about reselling these and doesn’t want the guys to do any real mods… this has the chance to compete with CAR TREK IF YOUR TAKE A LITTLE RISK…. Come onnnnnn these mods are fine but cut some fenders and do some cheap suspension mods harbor freight wench weld the differentials I mean if your worried about resell those liberties are in every junkyard just buy one and weld it literally off a wrecked Jeep onto this swap it back when your reselling … this could be cool as hell series do a part 2
You never stated what size tires were put on the Liberty. We know they are 16 inch inner diameter, but what then? Not 265/70R-16? If you did, you are a bit dim.
I'm still waiting on the builds.... All I see are steelies on everything and sponsor tires??? This isn't a cheap jeep build, this is more like a take your salvage jeep to moab video in both attitude and delivery, just sad all around.
I know you guys don’t really work on cars but just cut the fenders and the liners dude we know you guys only do factory OEM cars but get a little dirty take a little risk tell old papa worry pants to RELAX!
18 minutes about "transforming " 4x4s with new tires and spraypainted wheels. Been a while since I watched this channel. It has gone downhill.
The first gen Libby for some reason overdid the wheel wells. Mine has stock tires and when you cut the wheel hard over, it rubs. That kind of bothers me, I'm worried that the tires won't last too long.
Nathan wins simply for the Aquabats t-shirt.
Please stop saying hark, it sounds really dumb. It's like y'all had a bet to see how many times you could fit hark into a video, similar to Super Troopers, but it didn't land right.
Looks like they made the "bumper" out of exhaust pipe 🤦♂️
I would never use pipe that thin for that
Upset tommy didn’t defend the liberty when David said it wasn’t capable. These off road amazingly
they lured us in with a cheap jeep challenge. Turned out to be just an ad for Falken Tires. youtube has become just an ad agency.
