- As you have all heard by now, Robert Downey Jr. who we know and love as the face of the MCU for years with his portrayal of Tony Stark/Iron Man is making his RETURN to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to play Dr. Doom. As announced at Marvel's Hall H Panel at SDCC, he will star in both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars--films directed by none other than the Russo brothers. This is gonna be hype
Shocked and now hyped. Now I hope that the two Avengers movies and even all MCU movies of 2025 will be successful at both the Box Office and by critics and audiences.
I understand why people are sceptical on rdj playing dr doom but who knows it could be a huge surprise. Remember when he was first casted as iron man and people were worried due to his substance abuse? Well it turns out it was a huge hit and people started loving him immediately so the same can happen to him as doom. I’m really excited to see dr soon as the big bad! Kang was amazing but dr doom is far more dangerous and powerful.
I think This is going to be huge. I am so excited for RDJ to be dr.doom!

I think it can be good in two ways
1) if they don’t show his face, which just confuses me as to why they cast him
2) if he’s a Tony stark variant. Yes, that would essentially be erasing viktor von doom, but it’s the right step for the mcu imo to have an evil Tony.
I’m just glad he’s back. They could’ve said RDJ will be the next Black Widow and I would’ve been like HELLLL YEAH BABY
I freaking love it!!! The fact that he is playing Doom is incredible, and it won’t diminish his heroic sacrifice at all since he’s playing a whole new character! Here’s what I would prefer though when casting him as Doom and I hope they do this: I want his Doom to be an alternate version of Tony. In other words: make it like instead of becoming Iron Man in this universe, he became Doom. Also, I hope they build up to Doom just like they did with Thanos. Don’t just throw Doom in Avengers 5 out of nowhere like they did with Kang. That was one of my biggest complaints with Kang, there was no build up whatsoever.
I honestly love the idea of RDJ coming back as Doom cause it could lead to some really character moments with people like Peter Parker 😁
That would make them somewhat ruin what doctor dooms character is supposed to be. We are never supposed to see his face

I'm mixed on this rdj back is ridiculous why not cast cillian Murphy instead thh
Because RDJ is more well known to the MCU than Cillian, Plus you need something big to get the MCU fans confident again ever since the Johnathan Major incident.
@@Campbell5339But Cillian Murphy has already proven himself by winning an Oscar in Oppenheimer so I feel like he could be a great addition to the mcu especially as a villian

I'll probably hate it but if they'll do it like tony stark is still alive but something reached his brain or something then he comes back as a villan then it might be good
I don’t mind it yes it may seem like a desperate thing but I actually am weirdly excited for it
I personally think he can do a great job if he does it correctly. I wouldn't quite call it a desperate move by Marvel per se. Because what if they brought back one of the other mcu, actors. For the sake of a variety of characters, I would have picked an actor that we haven't seen in the Marvel cinematic universe yet. I do agree, though, that there is a possibility that this could be a variant of Tony Stark who becomes Doctor Doom. Because it is the multiverse saga.
I don't think he's coming back as Iron-Man perhaps, maybe it's just a completely different character but with Robert Downey Jr. as the actor because the fans love him so much. I think Iron-Man is still dead and always will be.

I actually think it can work. Marvel needed a quick pivot after the Kang fiasco and while this is definitely not going to be liked by everyone I’m willing to give them a chance. The Russo brothers could definitely pull it off.
On the new Avengers team not yet being established - I fully expect this to be resolved in the new Cap movie (they talk about it in the trailer). I don’t think we need 5 years to set up the next big storyline. They have already wasted the time since Endgame and people aren’t going to stay interested for that long. I think Cap and the Fantastic Four can set it up well.
Ultimately, it will all depend on how well everything is executed. Could be terrible, could be great. We will see, regardless I’m excited to find out!
i actually dont mind it ill be hyped when they show us how they are going to do this like is it a ironman variant or the actual dr doom i hope its the first one and he is not the main dr doom for the fantastic four hopefully it will be good
Facts
Understanding the firing of Johnathan Majors has derailed the original plan, this move by Marvel does keep the fans buzzing almost making us forget about Kang The Conqueror. However, I agree that this move feels desperate. I’ll try to keep an open mind as well.

I don’t think it’s a bad idea, I bet like a lot of ppl hates it now I’ll bet everyone will start to respect the choice to be honest I actually I liked it tbh. I think I trust both Russo’s and RDJ, idk it’s a disparate move but I realize it’s not a bad idea and I can see it. I’m very curious how the Russo’s and Downey approach it. I think it goes well and the four movies needs to be better before Avengers to get the hype on the Avengers film in couple of years now.
RDJ as Doom is great for marvel hopefully😮
Well ... RDJ kicked off Phase 1 with Iron Man, so why not have him kick off this phase as Doctor Doom. It's a new phase that might be set in a slightly different universe. Just like Deadpool has found a home in a different universe.
Ngl I think this could work if it was well scripted. I think rdj is an excellent actor and if we trust the Russo brothers as much as the duffer brothers then they will make a character that works, and if the script is right I have no doubt that rdj will do doom justice. Also whatever guy shouted Jared Leto before rdj revealed himself at comic con is an idiot, but an absolute legend😂.
I've actually heard that RDJ is going to be paid like $200 million for the two movies, which would make him the highest paid actor for a film(s) ever. He would actually beat out the two current record holders, Will Smith and Tom Cruise, who were each paid $100 million for Men in Black 3 and Top Gun: Maverick.

I’m conflicted on this. But I will give it a shot as the Russo brothers are directing the next two Avengers films.
I think it is a great idea in a way beacuse tony was a really important person to the avengers emotionally as a hero so him being the most badass vilain in the next phase would make a perfect drama when the avengers realize he is the new bad guy

I heard something saying the main reason The Russos are back is because there was a clause in RDJs contract saying he would only come back if The Russos were brought back
I am still pretty speechless on this particular topic as I am shocked and puzzled that Marvel Studios made this move by bringing back RDJ to play a villain in the same franchise where he once played a hero 🤨🤨🤨
To be honest, as confusing as it is, I'm all in, let everyone in Marvel cook.

I have a feeling that brave New World is going to be the one where they start to establish the new avengers team
After seeing Deadpool maybe iron man was the anchor for the 616 universe and now that he is dead and the universe is dying they go to another universe to get a variant of him and it is doom. That doom would later go on to trap everyone like the fantastic 4, survivors from Deadpool 3 like Deadpool Wolverine x23 maybe gambit etc and main mcu in secret wars

Why not just bring him back as Iron Man
This really worries me. It seems so desperate and while it could possibly work, I could easily see it undermining Endgame. What worries me even more is that the film is supposed to come out in less than two years, and while we have a ton of MCU content in Phases 4-5, it’s very unclear how a lot of the stuff will connect to these new movies

RDJ, among other things, was also cast as Doctor Doom in the 2005 Fantastic Four movie.
The thumbnail is so accurate. It doesn’t make sense for RDJ to be a different character in the mcu. I do not approve.
This feels desperate. RDJ certainly has the acting chops to pull off Dr. Doom but I worry bringing him back is a lazy way to get butts in the seats and they can’t just rely on story.
This will either be an amazing story or an absolute failure. There is no in between

I was excited about LITERALLY everything else during comic con, especially surrounding F4. And then the RDJ as Doom announcement happened lol.
I really don't like the decision at all. RDJ is obviously a great actor and it's not that l'd doubt his performance. It's the fact that no matter how great the character is written and acted, Doom as a character is ALWAYS going to live in the shadow of Iron Man now since RDJ is playing him, rather than being a strong character on his own merits with a different great actor. Not to mention, I highly doubt RDJ plays Doom for a decade. So this means either Doom is getting killed off in Secret Wars after just a couple appearances, or they'll recast Doom in the soft reboot from Secret Wars taking place. Neither one is an ideal scenario imo. Cuz what would be the point of him playing the character a couple times to then just recast going forward? Idk this just reeks of pure desperation and trying to create buzz toh. I think people are only excited that RDJ is back in general, not for the fact he's playing Doom
It also shows that Doom is simply a backup plan to Kang, which is also undermining the character imo. If you ask a lot of Marvel comic fans, I reckon a high % of people would say (myself included) that Doom is THE Marvel villain. For goodness sake Doom was somewhat of an inspiration for the creation of DARTH VADER. Doom is literally on the same intelligence as Reed Richards, has a suit of armor superior to that of Iron Man, and is near Dr. Strange’s level in terms of his prowess with the mystic arts. Which is something else. An integral part of Doom’s character is his Romani roots and the fact his mother was a witch. His fictional country of Latveria is basically Romania for a real world comparison. I somehow doubt they’re gonna keep his Romani roots in tact given RDJ is playing the character, which basically destroys a big foundational piece of the character already. Idk man, I’d love to be proven wrong but there’s not much about this move that makes me confident

The fact that everybody thinks the mcu is in trouble is hilarious. You know how much money they make? Much more than they can spend! Yes, a few films aren’t good.. THAT’S ALWAYS BEEN THE CASE IN THE MCU!!! Theres always gonna be hits & misses!! Marvel got one of the most successful franchises ever, behind Star Wars. Now, that is a ip that’s failing at the current moment. Marvel?! Stop it guys..
