If your Key Cap is not clicking down in place correctly, it is most likely due to the Retainer Clip not being properly installed or damaged. So I removed both up and down arrow keys and was shocked at the accumulated dirt and dust, especially since I take trouble to keep the keyboard clean. I used a fine artist's paintbrush (a hog fitch) to clean out the garbage, and then replaced the frames and the keycaps...and it worked! For about an hour, then the up-arrow started repeating again - eg in an editor the cursor zoomed up to line 1 and stayed there. I'll either repeat the process or dig further. Is there something physically wrong with the key / keys or are they mechanically working fine? Also, did anything happen before this issue appeared? Liquid spill, overheating, Windows update, etc?
My HP Envy has a stuck up-arrow key. Not visibly jammed down, but on permanent repeat, so the machine won't even boot. I'm just about to try and remove the key, but it's one of the half-size keys, which you don't mention, so this is going to be interesting...I'm assuming that underneath there is the same arrangement, just half-sized.

I was able to get both parts off without damaging anything but having difficulty snapping back in place. When I turned the key over the latches/snaps are on the inside of the actual key in addition to inside of the keyboard. I was also able to snap the clip back in place but the key will not stay attached

Usually arrow keys are similar in size to letter keys. If yours are a bit larger, they should still have the same basic layout. A retainer clip and a key cap on top of a rubber spring. If your arrow keys are very large, they may have a metal bar or two as do shift and space keys as seen here: ruclips.net/video/S6gCGN_2zW8/видео.html.

Hello there! My key cap just fell off while i was playing video games but for some reason the clip is on the keycap. Should i renove it from the keycap and place it in the keyboard hole
Thank you for giving me this advice, I will try it out but I have been taking a look at the hole which the key goes in and I have seen that the metal hooks are bent forwards, and a post online says I should use needle nose pliers to put them back in place. Should those metal hooks be upright?
I just seen a another video with the same laptop model as me and the hook are the same shape as mine (90 degree angle) So I think I will take your advice of removing the hinge

@@PC_Monkey I did. It seems that it is the specific key of the keyboard that is not functioning and since the keypad is an integrated one - not attached through a ribbon, I ll need to change the whole top which includes the touch pad. What a mess for just one key!

Hi. My retainer clip came off with the key. I can snap it on, but every 4th tap or so, it's begins to come up. How do I keep it down? Edit: I see you told someone else to take off the clip, but I've tried and it seems to be stuck onto it. LOL Second edit, I just put a little elbow grease and was able to get it off. Wish me luck. 3rd: I think I put it on upside?? It snapped back on the key, but didn't stay on the board. 4: I managed to get it up there, but if I stroke the key in either left or right top corner, it's coming off. And when it does, the retainer clip comes off with it. If you have any tips, can you please reply? Thank you.

There isn't really a good way to reattach those. They are not meant to be replaced. Best advice is try to use a small amount of glue. If that does not work, you may have to replace the keyboard.

If your Key Assembly is not installed correctly, I would disassemble and inspect for damage. If none is found, try to reinstall as seen here. If its still not working, its most likely due to the hinge clip being damaged or not oriented correctly or the metal pins on the keyboard being bent out of place. I honestly think that doing is slowly increases the risk of breaking it!... Plastic is flexible, even if it's hard plastic. Therefore, if you bend it quickly and then allow it to go back to its relaxed state, it might hold, whereas if you bend it slowly and keep it in its bent state for a prolonged time, it might break!... Even for the exact same amount of bend!

Could you please advise how to fix that?
This video is a tutorial on how to replace a key. If your keys are not working but are not mechanically broken, troubleshoot them as seen here; ruclips.net/video/wqrchfpdJ_w/видео.html.
I was able to get both parts off without damaging anything but having difficulty snapping back in place. When I turned the key over the latches/snaps are on the inside of the actual key in addition to inside of the keyboard. I was also able to snap the clip back in place but the key will not stay attached
If your Key Cap is not clicking down in place correctly, it is most likely due to the Retainer Clip not being properly installed or damaged. Remove the Cap and inspect for damage or that its not laying down flush and properly snapped in itself. Compare to another Clip if needed by removing another Cap.

On most keyboards, the arrow keys are the same size as the letter keys and so would be the same operation as seen here :)
Can you make a video for arrow key as mine is a bit elongated so its not fixing when i am pressing it
Usually arrow keys are similar in size to letter keys.
