    What is a ketone?
A ketone is not a fat, carbohydrate, or protein. It has characteristics of both a fat and a carbohydrate, but it's not either. Ketones come from fat, and they are an alternative fuel source. You get ketones by lowering the carbohydrates in your diet, or by reducing your frequency of eating.
That's why I recommend a low carb diet (ketogenic diet) with intermittent fasting. That way, you can maximize your ability to make ketones.
    Benefits of ketones:
    • Increases oxygen in the body
    • Increases energy
    • Supports the brain
    • Supports the heart
Most of the body tissues can run on ketones, but some parts need glucose. However, you still don't need to consume glucose. Your body can make glucose when it needs to through something called gluconeogenesis.
It takes time to start turning fat into ketones. The time it takes depends on how damaged your pancreas is.
    How to get into ketosis:
    • Lower your carbs
    • Lower your frequency of eating
    Why should you do ketosis?
    • To lower insulin
High insulin levels cause insulin resistance.
    Insulin resistance in behind:
    • Pre-diabetes
    • Diabetes
    • Metabolic syndrome
    • High blood pressure
    • Fat in the gut area
More benefits of keto and intermittent fasting:
    • Reduce fat in the liver
    • Improve cognitive performance
    • Improve mood
    • Decrease blood pressure
    • Decrease inflammation
    • Improve energy
    • Decrease belly fat
    • Autophagy
    * Your hunger goes away with the keto diet and intermittent fasting.
    * Keto and intermittent fasting work best when combined.
    * I recommend healthy keto over dirty keto.
    * Don't eat unless you're hungry. With healthy keto, you will be full and satisfied.
    * Autophagy starts after about 18 hours of fasting.
    * When fasting drink fluids, take electrolytes and B vitamins, and take sea salt.
Common foods to focus on while on the ketogenic diet plan:
    • Pasture-raised eggs
    • Shellfish
    • Fish
    • Sardines
    • Organic meats
    • Cheese
    • Olives
    • Avocados
    • Veggies
    • Nuts
    • Seeds

Clear and concise. I am a retired physician and used to explain to patients that our metabolism hasn't changed significantly for thousands of years. As hunter-gatherers we ate far fewer carbs and as such our bodies are designed to run on fats and proteins naturally. As a kid, our local sweet shop had a few trays of sweets: Now, all supermarkets have long isles packed with sweets of all kinds. Our bodies aren't designed to ingest all this sugar... no wonder Insulin Resistance is such an issue these days. I have always told patients that nature gets it right and to listen to their bodies. Keep up the good work Dr Berg!

Hello. I have a question and maybe you can help me. I have followed Dr. Eric Berg keto plan for 3 months ,i have lost the weight i wanted but my LDL cholesterol has gone up to 200( which by the reference where i had my test done , it is very high) . How do i tackle this and still continue with keto, or is this normal and it will come down by itself? I know boiled eggs have more of the good cholesterol than fried eggs (in butter)Should I do that instead? Any suggestions i would appreciate. Thank you

That opened the door to Keto you should watch it ..first thing I did is knock of the Sugar and sugary drinks also all Alcohol then after 30 days I started removing all the Carbs except for vegetables fresh Blue berry's , Raspberry's , and Black berry's as the only sweets I could have when I craved them at first almost at the end of every meal all my meals with NO snacking where 80% Fat 15% protein and 5% carbs ..lost 60 Lbs in 6 month 100 lbs in just under a year ..The biggest surprise after the remarkably fast weight loss was that in 3 short month I had lost all symptoms of arthritis that had plagued me for over 5 years this is when I woke up that this is much more ten just about loosing fat also be aware that back then I did not know about IF and OMAD ..that I started at the end of my 2nd year and did some experimenting so If I was starting now with all the new info on RUclips it would go so much faster and easier. I'm now at 172 lbs my lowest after 12 month was 160 lbs I had a lot of loose skin and appeared older from the wrinkled skin on the face Today I'm 59 Yo 175 lbs much more muscle and I'm down to about 20 % body fat the loose skin is about 80% gone and I still notice an improvement every month and I have been told quite a few times this past year that I'm looking so much younger I agree. As far as my mental health I can for sure tell that I don't experience brain fog that I did 4 years ago my short term memory still needs to improve quite a bit more, But my long term is some times scary how good it is ..This is long but it would take hours to even start to go into any details " Live your life against the grain and never look back "

I live in a cold climate in Canada, in a remote area three and half hours' drive from a supermarket. I grow greens in summer but for half the year it is difficult to find quality vegetables. Enter sprouts. All you need is a canning jar and screen (mosquito screen and a rubber band to hold it on) and a table spoon of sprouting seeds. In 2 - 3 days you will have salad. You don't need grow lights or space. It is easy and very cheap. At the sprout stage the plant has many more nutrients than at any other time of its life. Collards, broccoli and daikon radish have so much potassium I no longer need to take supplements. High in fibre, too. Almost zero carbs.

Now I am about to start back on your plan and never stop again. I am now working with a trainer that has told me to eat carbs and eat every two hours. I have gained even more doing this working out 6 days a week. I’m going back to Keto and staying there. Thanks for all you do sir

I tried to reply to people because I watch a lot of the videos. I am so glad for you that was the same for me I was eating 5 times a day and could not even Stop very easy always craving sugar and carbs it was really a bad cycle. I could not lose 1 pound after being 40 pounds overweight. It was very stubborn but once I went on the keto along with the inner minute fasting I couldn’t believe that I was even able to fast but it was awesome with his help I can fast and not be hungry that’s unheard of for me but it works I already lost 13 pounds in over a month I couldn’t believe it I never lose weight like that I’d say reasonably I lose 1.5 to 2 pounds per week on an average it’s awesome. It’s been 10 years since I’ve been on a diet that allowed me to lose weight steadily wow. The other diet I used diet medication which was not good so this is all natural and it’s also fun great recipes I wish you the best

My story - I have lost about 13 Kgs ( 29Lbs approx.) in about 2 months (mid-November till now). I got keto adapted within 2-3 days of starting and am now doing either 20/4 or OMAD. Now focussing more on electrolytes and nutrient rich greens and quality of fat being consumed. Am also doing and light excercise to improve my muscle tone. Benefits - My arthiritic pains are reducing rapidly, craving for sugar has dissappeared, fat around the stomach region has decreased (wearing 2 sizes lower). Will be testing my insulin resistance, and other blood markers (Lipid profile) next week.

After many other videos and some confusion, I now understand and have recently adopted the 18-6 plan for eating. Not to far into it, I've found hunger no longer kicks in desiring a 'breakfast' - so I wait until noon or sometimes even 3 pm. It's not been long enough for me to see any real changes in my body, but I am sticking with it. Many thanks to Dr. Berg for clarifying much of the confusion over Keto and Inter. fasting.

Michael Dunavant Yes, that is so interesting. Prior to KETO, when I was weighed at the walk-in clinic, I was given a readout that told me my BMI was too high. I asked the nurse why, and she said it doesn’t account for muscle, and I was a stocky atheletic wrestler kind of physique. I really didnt know then how to lose weight, not 25 pounds of it anyways, and honestly didnt think I could. I eat healthfully, but was eating too many carbs, not realizing it was keeping me at a solid 165. I think American culture programs us to favor us on the chunky side. I got my BMI down to normal percentage for my age and height, and after years of having high BP, its now normal 120/80. Still people tell me they are afraid KETO is harming me! The doctor gives a thums up though!

I workout 5/6 days a week and sessions are an hour plus. You will lose weight. In the beginning it was fast and then slowed down and now it’s constant- not massive loss weekly about a lb or two a week.
Now, folks ask me to eat and I say why? I don’t need that slice or pasta. It’s truly a new Lifestyle

Did strict keto for 8 mths, lost over 100lbs. Fasting was SO easy, OMAD - no prob, two days fast - no prob except I’d start yawning and feel a but tired at 48 hrs so I’d eat. But still, satisfaction/hunger was easily managed.
Lately been eating keto approved foods (not carbs or processed foods), but I’ve been having too much, I’ve been hungry which feeds back into wanting to eat too much. 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️
Its not just the approved foods, but managing quantities that’s super important. I’m struggling to get back into strict keto now even though I know how amazing it works.

    excerpts of this important video
In this video, we're going to cover the keto diet plan for beginners.
    What is a ketone?
A ketone is not a fat, carbohydrate, or protein. It has characteristics of both a fat and a carbohydrate, but it's not either. Ketones come from fat, and they are an alternative fuel source. You get ketones by lowering the carbohydrates in your diet, or by reducing your frequency of eating.
That's why I recommend a low carb diet (ketogenic diet) with intermittent fasting. That way, you can maximize your ability to make ketones.
    Benefits of ketones:
    • Increases oxygen in the body
    • Increases energy
    • Supports the brain
    • Supports the heart
Most of the body tissues can run on ketones, but some parts need glucose. However, you still don't need to consume glucose. Your body can make glucose when it needs to through something called gluconeogenesis.
It takes time to start turning fat into ketones. The time it takes depends on how damaged your pancreas is.
    How to get into ketosis:
    • Lower your carbs
    • Lower your frequency of eating
    Why should you do ketosis?
    • To lower insulin
High insulin levels cause insulin resistance.
    Insulin resistance in behind:
    • Pre-diabetes
    • Diabetes
    • Metabolic syndrome
    • High blood pressure
    • Fat in the gut area
More benefits of keto and intermittent fasting:
    • Reduce fat in the liver
    • Improve cognitive performance
    • Improve mood
    • Decrease blood pressure
    • Decrease inflammation
    • Improve energy
    • Decrease belly fat
    • Autophagy
    * Your hunger goes away with the keto diet and intermittent fasting.
    * Keto and intermittent fasting work best when combined.
    * I recommend healthy keto over dirty keto.
    * Don't eat unless you're hungry. With healthy keto, you will be full and satisfied.
    * Autophagy starts after about 18 hours of fasting.
    * When fasting drink fluids, take electrolytes and B vitamins, and take sea salt.
Common foods to focus on while on the ketogenic diet plan:
    • Pasture-raised eggs
    • Shellfish
    • Fish
    • Sardines
    • Organic meats
    • Cheese
    • Olives
    • Avocados
    • Veggies
    • Nuts
    • Seeds

@@sidthemyth steem or cook spinach to remove. Really, veggies in general have various anti-nutrients and should be boiled. You only lose water soluble vitamins-c and the b vitamins. 2 limes for vitmine c and b vitamins are in meat or take a couple table spoons of Brewers yeast.

Happy New Year, Dr Berg! Thanks to your awesome videos, I had lost most of the excess weight for one year but gave in to too much carbs again for a few months recently. Of course, I feel like crap... Time to get back to the basics and make this Keto+IF a lifestyle not just a temporary fix!!

    Good day Dr Berg,
Thank you for your in-depth knowledge of the functions of the human body:)
I thought I’d compare what I do on a regular basis to your recommendations.
I usually eat from 16:00-20:00 , once a day. Black French roast coffee around 05:00 , and green tea till 4.
I’d just like to say that getting to that point can be a bit challenging. Especially at 08:00, 10:00 & 12pm for the first few weeks.
But it is truly amazing that I have a consistent amount of energy throughout the day.
If if I was to eat , say at lunch, I get more tired then if I just skip the dish.
    Thank you & Shalom
