Rivian and Ford need to keep their eyes out! Chevy has broken the news that they are in some early design phases of a $30,000 electric truck the likes of Ford's popular Maverick pick up truck.
This could be the perfect competitor! In today's video, I am going to share everything we know about this new electric truck! Let's dive in!

Yep, this is exactly what I really want in an electric truck... an electric maverick or Santa Cruz would be perfect
An electric maverick would be amazing. This is going to be interesting with all these small trucks coming out. Between this and the supposed Toyota truck 2023 will be an interesting year
I would buy it ASAP!!! We are retired, and it's something my wife and I could really use around the house/farm.
I am retired too .... I would dump two cars and buy this ... we only need one vehicle at this point in our lives .... the maint , gas , insurance , tags would cover the cost .... I like the radar rd6 looks good too ..... when will these come to market is the big question
I would buy this in a heartbeat. It's a no brainer for me.
But remember the lightning was $39 and now it’s $55k
I drove VOLT with 42 miles of range. Multiple times, I went 2500 miles between 9 gallons of fill ups. My MPG was over 250.
I have a volt too and love it. I use it like a pickup in some respects. I haul lumber, firewood, bicycles. I just wish I had a pickup so I can haul dirt, plywood, etc.
Happy birthday Larry! Yes, $30k electric truck would hit the sweet spot for many people including me.
Wow! This Chevy is gorgeous! I'd buy it if it had 4wd /awd.
Do another video on this truck as soon as you get more info. Plse.
Happy birthday Larry, thanks for the new video. Catch you on the next one
I think there's room in the market for a different slant of PHEV - small gas engine with 100 hp, but bigger battery pack and 200 mile electric range. So the gas motor can be your "range extender," and the electric motor can be your main powerplant.
I'm all in if they keep it light and affordable with awd. Currently in the new Maverick w/4K tow and don't need a bigger truck...
Just an idea at this point. Also wondering if 29K or 39K is their idea of 30k
I have been waiting for years for manufactures to produce a plug-in electric hybrid truck. I want the ev for trips around town and commute but still want to drive gas on the freeway for weekend longer trips.
My Lightning works perfectly for EVERYTHING I do. Including saving money on gas. Why are you so opposed? Yes i actually own one and drive it for work EVERY day...
still waiting for my lightning and my maverick. cyber truck should be here by the end of the year, fingers crossed.
I’ve driven a Ford Fusion hybrid for ten years and gotten 41+ mpg. It’s great. mY only challenge has been moving stuff…especially equipment and lumber - things from Home Depot. A compact electric truck would be ideal. I’m really attracted by the Radar RD6. The first domestic RV compact truck under 30K will get my business!
I have the maverick hybrid and really like it, co-bought it with my dad so when a good PHEV or BEV small-mid sized pickup comes out I’ll give him the maverick and get something more electrified. Something tells me it’s gonna be more like 2025-2026 before we really see them though. Taking them too long to get just the full sized EV trucks out.
Wayyyyy too long!
I was a gm fan boy. They lost me due to the displacement on demand. And there lack of support on the volt and the bolt stuff. Just my 2cents on gm. They did kill the electric car. Ev1 look it up. The ls engine was great tell the dod. I'm holding off on any gm for a while
There is literally no reason GM cannot do this in the short term. They already sell the bolt for like $27k, basically just throw a small truck body on that.
Not sure hope so. The killer would be the battery size. That is not going to be cheap. Don't know just saying. They never deliver at these first blush prices.
GM is using the Ultium platform for their next generation batteries. I like the modular design as oppose to the older Bolt platform. Nothing wrong with the Bolt though.
isnt' the machE a modified version of the same platform the bronco sport/maverick is on? hopefully we see an electric maverick sooner rather than later
The website says it's $39,900 not $30,000. I think it competes against the Cybertruck., Both will be release in 2024. I'm excited!
If they put the Midgate in it will be a winner
Larry did they say that anyway in your research?
Interested providing it can fit a sheet of drywall in the back.
Looks great. Would prefer Ranger or Colorado size EV truck but would consider this model.
If it can't haul a piece of plywood easily, I'm not sure it meets my needs. Wonder how wide the bed would be.
Happy birthday 🎂 Larry!
Happy Birthday Larry 😊
Hyundai Santa Cruz is on the Tucson platform which comes as a hybrid and Phev. I am looking for an affordable small truck whether it be a chevy, Ford or Hyundai😊. I own the fwd SC sel and love it
I dropped my Lightning reservation. Too expensive. Made a Silverado EV reservation. Also pricey. I would certainly be more interested in a 4 door awd EV small to midsize pickup. A midsize PHEV would be great too.
In order to have a good range with the current batteries a truck needs to be aerodynamic and light weight. So more like Cybertruck than Lightning, even though Lightning is the most aerodynamic of F-150's, it's still a brick
My preference would be for full electric. Since my plan is to tow my travel trailer around for a year or more any of these new trucks needs to tow 5000 pounds for me. If it's battery electric, I assume I could turn a 300-400 mile range into 150-200 miles of towing range. I could see a plug in hybrid if it had a decent range before the motor kicked in.
My gold standard was the original Workhorse W15 before it turned into the Lordstown Endurance. It was supposed to have a battery good for 80-100 miles and a V-8 for going beyond that and they planned to sell it for $52,000.
Maybe I will have to wait for the new solid state batteries that should start being in cars after 2025 to boost up the range to get my towing range, but maybe Cybertruck or Silverado will come through in 2024. I'm just not in love with carrying a gas engine around and buying gas and oil and filters and o2 sensors and belts and hoses and exhaust systems and catalytic converters and things.
What I want to do could be done by a SUV. I use my Explorer now. I carry a recumbent trike in the back with the rear seat folded and I can tow my trailer, so an electric version would be fine for me.
Most of the electric Crossovers have the sloping rear for aerodynamics, but that means I would have to fold my trike, which is how it fits in my Model S. I just want to be lazy and not fold it.
Ram is going to bring a compact Dakota or Rampage ev truck to market before the Ram 1500 ev hits the road. The Jeep Avenger which Stellantis has in Europe was just named their car of the year so Stellantis is not as far behind as everyone thinks
dun mean to sound like a wet blanket but after several reviews of BEV trucks: if you actually need a truck to tow and/or carry stuff BEV trucks can't cut the mustard? Once fully loaded, towing or cold temps the advertised range get torn to shreds! If you think pickup trucks are cool and drive it short distances or in the city then BEV trucks are fine - juz sayin...
I’ve wondered why gm and and ford didn’t publicly “roadmap” their compact and midsize ev trucks. Personally a maverick is too small, but I’d jump at a Ranger or Colorado/Canyon. I agree Lightning and probably the Silverado are not there yet with range and cost.
even if Ford's MAVERICK was a PLUG IN HYBRID, it would go a long way to appease those who want to tool around town on just EV power, rather than having a small truck that does it's own thing, hybrid wise. Of course, the all-EV version would be on my list, but it looks as though Ford does not want to tip the apple cart from the F150 Lightning production. Eventually, we'll see most ALL EV versions of all of these vehicles, but for now, and the forseeable few years, it's either go 'big', or don't go.
If they moved the cab forward, they could have a 6' bed. 4.5 bed is not that useful. Can't put most things you use in that size bed. The footprint of the vehicle gives room for something much more practical.
Ford must have it in the works because they already trademarked Maverick Lightning & Ranger Lightning.
Drops 30K but adds 40k in dealer markups. Nice.
JUST IMAGINE HOW POPULAR THEY WOULD BE IN THE STATES
IF ONLY THEY SOLD THEM IN THE STATES
$30,000 MINUS $7500 TAX CREDIT. ADD IN THE GAS SAVING AND IT MIGHT WORK FOR ME.
IT NEEDS A 4 WHEEL DRIVE OPTION AND IM IN.
Good luck with quality.
good fit for me !
1) is price 2) is range 3) rebate
I'm not sure about that I drive a 2016 explorer it fits in to tiny spots and turns on a dime
Love if Ford released a F-150 Lightning with a regular cab, aluminum frame, heat pump, LFP battery.
Hope this Chevy EV truck will also hit Europe.
I think this is more aimed as a gun towards the ford maverick and not the rivian
I think the market needs more real mid size/ compact trucks. I'm wishing more auto makers hop on this sooner than later. But as it stands i feel like gm is run by a bunch of prehistoric cavemen. I wouldn't be surprised if they actually go bigger than go smaller.
And lets say in the off chance they decide to proceed with these small trucks wouldn't hit market till 2025 at the earliest. That's my educated guess
Nice styling job, but small bed for me right now. Was disappointed with the Ford dealership on recognizing my early reservation, plus I’m not thrilled any more due to price increase and range. Got my $100 refunded. Chevy dealership tells me I’m in the top five reservation for the EV Silverado. Bought a 2022 Silverado High Country refresh to ensure I’ll get recognized as an established customer. Hopefully it helps when it’s time to trade the 2022 Silverado for a 2024 EV Silverado.
And then the dealership will add market adjustment of 20k or more.
Not for me. But I see the benefit for the market. I don’t think this compares to rivian. Rivian has more utility (towing, off roading, space, wheel base). But this would be super popular like the maverick
A small affordable electric truck can’t come out soon enough. Add the Ultium platform and boom!
Yes I think they’ll buy it ! 250-300 range not 100-150 and not using anything, heater, a/c, small utility trailer. If they can deliver they’ll buy . , No Rivian , they are a Luxury truck , beautiful and it has everything but yes expensive , not in same class as small, maverick or new Chevy.
7:16 why are ppl so indifferent when it comes to paying ridiculous car prices? I often feel like RUclipsrs don’t really reflect the majority. But then again, we live in a society where people drive things they can’t afford either because they can’t control their impulse, or they want to be perceived as a healthy middle class.
Don’t get me wrong if you have the money go and buy whatever you want but I just cringe a little when he makes it seem like the $20,000 extra dollars is a drop in the bucket.
I think the reason is because it is a drop in the bucket for a large amount of people. You’re not wrong - there are a lot of people that (foolishly) overextend on cars. But at the same time, for a lot of people, 20k is really…..inconsequential.
@@brads1545 As a general rule of thumb, a $5,000 price increase drops sales half. So $20k means 1/16th of sales. That is 6%, meaning they will lose 94% of the potential sales volume. That's ok when the manufacturer can't produce anyway.
Smaller than the Maverick... might be a tough sell for me. But I'd give it a chance.
I traded my Lightning on a 6.7 Powerstroke Superduty. The Lightning is not ready for prime time, it has no range, dont waste your money. When someone makes an EV truck with a true 400 mile range at 85mph I'm in.
WhT did you get on trade in for lightning if you don’t mind sharing?
My lightning is great for me. I bought it for local use & charge at home. Luxury, and it will do everything my 2014 F150 would do at a cost for less than I paid to drive my prius for which averaged 54 mpg. If your looking for long distance traveling and towing long distance then the lightning isn't for you.
@@Lanaiescapade 72 lost just under 4k for owning it for 6 weeks. I realized 150 miles and charge it wouldn't work for me. I'm happy with the 550 mile diesel range.
Glad you’re happy. I also bought my Lightning for local driving with under 10 miles to go to work, stores etc I’ll never get close to running out of range charging at home. I love it
If you had to switch to a HD pickup then I’d suggest that the Lightning was not the right fit for you in the first place.
Awesome. Another Chevy EV to see in future GM commercials but not delivered to customers. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
So is this a 55k 30k truck like the lightning or is this a real price? Lol
I don't know why these companies don't understand gas over electric is the only answer.
I really don't need the truck so I'm waiting for that $20,000 TELSA
skip to 2:57
Not sure they could make this at a profit...!!
yep 😀 !!!
I'd pass and take the RIVIAN.
If it was a hybrid I would be all over it....
They will sell 5 at that price and then bump up the price.
Won't buy it. It has to be a plug in hybrid. The ability to run 30 miles on electronic only for everyday use with the backup of gas is more practical. My wife's BMW XIE5 runs like this and she only filled the gas tank 4 times since the six months she owned it, and that was because she went on a 5 hour drive to Dallas and back. I would never own a pure electric with the current infrastructure. If I lived in Florida again, a mass evacuation for a hurricane be a fiasco with everyone waiting of flooding the chargers on the route for 35 minutes to an hour for each car. A backup gas engine is great for trailering a boat or utility equipment, a full electric will not get you far.
I would think the hybrid would be ideal the electric will be hard to get probably this will be less expensive.
Considering the Silverado is over $100k....By the t8me the dealers get their electrics out, hydrogen will be the way to go
If Honda /Toyota brought an electric kei truck I’d drop 30k
Just more Mary Barra vaporware. Lyric came out last year... they made 122 of them... all year in total. This truck will never be built and if it is, it will be in tiny numbers.
The Lyriq just launched. Would you prefer that they sell zero in 2022, to get a better "first year" number?
A "truck" for people who don't need a truck.
Chevy is using the wrong battery.
🎂
It would be far better if each brand would concentrate on making ONE good vehicle instead of piles of CRAP !!!
Wishful thinking 😂
We won’t see such a vehicle for another 2-3 years (reliable and inexpensive), if at all since EV’s, specially trucks are way behind schedule. Including the elusive Tesla truck 😮
Your crazy a truck at 50.000 ..no if they don't keep this under 35.000 I'll move on..I'm wanting to buy American ..they make it hard too..why you call 50.000 a good deal!!!
Why would anyone want a Electric GM VEHICLE ? They can not fix the Gas GM VEHICLES..I have one with known problems and GM does not have a clue.
Nope Nope Nope
Grossly overpriced. It is only worth around 15k due to short range and long charging times. Bottom line it is impractical.
Your headline is so misleading, I will not be back.
✌
I hate how this looks. At least the full size EV truck looks nice. This looks garbo.
All of these electric trucks are no good right now,, we should stay on hybrid’s. Electric cars are nice but until we can find a power source that we with stand all type of climates and fast recharge time then we can talk about electric cars and trucks and semi trucks.
2027 when this truck actually comes out…no one will give a single fuck. Sorry legacies are screwed.😢
