To be fair, both of them were gonna win either way. They had stakes in the company and they were at the end of their careers so a pay out would not hurt them that much. It would've been great if they stayed and cashed in a little more, but it's still a great deal for them unlike the rest of cattle. Hugo for example was a small fish with barely anything in the middle of his career. He'd have to start over at a different company for a smaller salary, work his way up again and pray that he lands a position similar to what he had before. Bad times ahead of him to say the least.

So Matsson fucked them over by giving them an offer they couldn't refuse, and I mean that literally.
