      Too bad the overall design of everything is cheap and undersized. The ship is too small, the hydrogen bag is too small, and trying to show holograms to a race of beings who are BLIND was just stupid. The planet looks like a desert, and no oceans means no ozone layer, so the surface is bathed in ultraviolet light. So, while an interesting concept, I think it was poorly executed.

    Does anyone else remember the INCREDIBLY detailed tie-in interactive that Discovery used to have on its website, where you could actually guide Ike through his journey on Darwin IV?
    It's too bad that it was lost around the time that Adobe pulled the plug on Flash, it had so much information that explained a lot of the lore in this documentary.

    Anyhow, the alien lifeforms on Darwin IV are quite alien looking, different enough from Earth life to be aliens but exhibit familiar behaviour.
    At the start when the narrator said that we are the invaders, I imagined myself sounding like a stereotypical Martian.

Never gets boring and a bit to my embarrassment...the writing, direction, pick one was brilliant in one aspect, in particular, that I only recently noticed....Ike and Leo 'look' and, certainly, have physical qualities like the only sentient life on Darwin 4.....they share great sensory equipment, and they both 'float'. Cool juxtaposition.

    I believe life is abundant throughout our galaxy, statistically. But, the distances between living worlds is probably astronomical. Out of thousands, maybe tens of thousands of alien worlds, only a precious few support life. Intelligent life is probably rarer still. Technically advanced species the rarest of all.

    I think alien life when discovered will be strange beyond our imagination. They could look like exactly like us

    • @drek9k2
      @drek9k2 Месяц назад

      The odds of a species looking exactly like us are pretty freaking small. Consider for instance convergent evolution on Earth. The forms of spiderlike beings, and various other insects, have appeared multiple times. Fishlike structures have appeared multiple times. Flight has appeared multiple times. Handlike appendages have also appeared, but mainly in related mammals. Eyes and venom have appeared over and over again. Point being that, yes, there are likely to be a whole bunch of similar animals if the same parameters exist, atmosphere, bodies of liquid etc. Life can theoretically appear where there is not water or is using our own types of chemistry. It also doesn't necessarily need to be like Earth to be life bearing. We're simply going off of what we have here. An important factor for consideration, is the fact that the Earth's oxygen is not natural, that is to say, it's not abiogenic, oxygen is a highly reactive and toxic element that as the theory goes, originally was produced in vast amounts by microbes. In fact early earth's atmosphere was being saturated in methane, it would've smelled like rotting eggs and rotting garbage and sewage from the bacterial mats in the ocean. But eventually microbes evolved to produce oxygen as a byproduct, eventually over millions of years farting out enough to saturate the earth's oceans beyond what any surface iron could absorb and killing most of the other microbes.
      This is a big thing nobody ever seems to address in science fiction, it's entirely plausible that alien worlds would be bereft of oxygen beyond the most minimal trace amounts. Had those microbes not evolved to expel oxygen as a byproduct, we'd have no O2 in our atmosphere beyond the traces usually from breakdown of H20 but notice earth's atmosphere isn't filled with hydrogen either.

      Any species that over-specialises almost inevitably becomes an evolutionary dead end. We need to be exploring in as broad a manner as possible, in every field. The number of times seemingly inconsequential data from one field have meant important breakthroughs have happened in another are too numerous to list.

    This video ‘thing’ is, surely, from an alternative universe. That’s the place where huge spaceships, named after ‘Paper-Clipped, Nazi SS-Sturmbannführer* Scientists’, like Wernher von Braun, and around 1600 of his close friends, got to fulfill their childhood fantasies. You know, that was before he made the first, primitive ‘ICBMs’ for Hitler and then was hired to make better missiles for Uncle Sam and, only then, got to work on the Moon project as a thank you from a grateful United States.
    This is where experts tell us that 2014 is THE year when we could find “...hundreds...” of planets just like Earth. Can’t wait for that one! Then, in this ‘scintillating’ scraping of the creative barrel they ‘release the artists’ who take wild stabs in the dark to come up with ‘alien creatures’ that would have Chuck Jones turning in his grave. Piffle, hogwash, horse feathers, ratbaggery etc. etc. In fact, the late Mr Jones’s ‘Marvin The Martian’ was a more of a science fact-based creation than anything you’ll see here.
    Next time you want to dissect 1:33:43 from your time on Earth watch this; how do you say...? “Garbage”. Bill H.
    * = I didn't make this part up... this is fact. BH

Sun, Moon and stars (heavens) were created after. There was civilization on earth before in between Gen 1:1-Gen 1:2 where Lucifer had dominion of the earth. Jesus said he saw satan fall like a star to the ground. Gen 1:2 is a world covered in water. The dateless past, satan went from morning star to fallen all before Adam was created and it was then man was given dominion over the earth, but satan is still god of this world. But referred as prince of the air now.

      its also 19 years old based on a book from the 90s...but I believe it offers much more thought provoking things then anything you could muster.

    This piece of nonsense is very clever thinking when it comes to space travel in the far flung. The dumb balloons, 4 yo robot ambassadors to who gives a shit moving slow and being slow (intentionally) and then some useless spider contraption that seems to move about as fast as though early 2000s robot dogs. And I love the air discs... No nanobots or drones or nano drones... Just an flying disc that can collect data when it's convenient, and yet why not use that sort of technology the whole time? Wtf I need to go wash the early aughts off before i start wearing boot cut jeans and maybe an old navy turtlenecks and watch Red Planet or Mission to nobody cares
