This Civic Type R is a much nicer car than the GR Corolla.
I’m a Toyota fan but I have to agree 👍
The only worthwhile way to get the GR is the core + performance pack. It's still too much money for what it is, but it's better than the other options.
I think it Toyota had made a GR Corolla sedan, it be much nicer than this type R
@@MrCovert23 This Civic Type R is a hatchback. They're both hatchbacks. Honda just did it better in this case.
Honestly I'd take the corolla GR. It's smaller, lighter and AWD. The civic type R is nice too, don't get me wrong.
I agree with you guys on the looks compared to the previous gen. I considered the R when I was looking to replay my Si several years ago, but couldn't get past the looks. This is a much better design.
The last gen design just looked cooler imo because you could tell the difference between the Type R and regular civic. This one looks too tame like the regular civic.
@@Inferno45 You're right about it looking tame, but imagine the face on the other driver when he finds out it's not?
That thing does sound really nice when they were driving it around. The styling is sexy. This imo looks better than the previous type r
I bought a Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing instead. My local Honda dealers are asking $20k over sticker and interest rates at like +8%. I got my 470HP, 6-speed manual, rwd for $60k - $3k incentive, 3% apr & a free ($3500 value) performance driving school in Vegas.
How are you liking the blackwing? Looking into one.
@@jaylonsorrells5139 omg it's awesome. It's my daily driver. Manual transmission is very smooth but grips well when throttled. Insurance costs are excellent compared to the v8 coupes. I'm doing a script & video on @MunkieBunz3 channel
@@jaylonsorrells5139 it's a good car with nolift shift, launch control
my 2023 tunes type r smoked the blackwing on track! and i love the blackwing
@@saucey99 what track? Sounds like a driver issue. 😂 Nah, tunes are cool but I'll keep my warranty.
The only people that don’t think this car is amazing, are people that haven’t driven it
Just picked up the Integra Type S a few days ago...so far loving it. Called several dealers, could not find one without markups :(
Sorry, but how much did you pay for the integra?
@@SavigeSadist1 over $60k...it had some of the extras. Carbon fiber, etc.
@@moscty wow. My ct4-v blackwing started at 61k & I got it for Msrp minus $3k, low apr special and the Cadillac performance driving school for free ($3500 value). I hate how dealerships are doing this to people. The manufacturer says "these are worth x amt" but dealerships scam customers.
Big fan of the channel here. I'm also in Boulder, I have an FL5 if you boys need it for any testing!
I'm more like the guys at TFL. Just turned 50 years young. The type R is great, but I'd pay a bit more for the type S... definitely punching above its weight class!!!
Wish the Type S was the price of the R, and the R was 5 under where it's at right now...
Hey, when I was in my late teens and early 20's, this would have been an excellent run about. But 50+ you are better off with the Dodge Charger with the 392. Fast, sounds phenomenal, good looking, fun, practical and comfortable. ;) Rice runners are fine for the youth, but the mature needs to move up to the HP. Drag race these 2 against each other TFL. 😉
@@WW-wf8tu
Why has to be drag racing ?
This vehicle wasn’t designed for that.
Why not run them in a road coarse just to see why make the CTR great.
@@WW-wf8tuif that's the case, get a Tesla P 100. It isn't about straight line performance....
The type r will pull a 392 in a straight line. Chargers sound cool but that where it stops. @WW-wf8tu
I am a hot-hatch guy and have owned a lot of different ones (GTI mk5 & mk6, Honda SiR EP3 my fav btw, fiesta st, etc) and I’m lucky enough that my two coworkers got a new type r and a Corolla gr. Driven both and the Type R is just superior in every way (interior, handling, materials, space, etc). Just feels like a much better product.
A Civic Type R and Corolla GR comparison would be a good video and a good time.
I travel constantly for my job. I recently saw my very first Corolla GR in Las Vegas. I'm not sure if they're ultra limited production or if people just aren't buying them. The three-cylinder engine would prevent me from considering it at any price.
@@smithjones1906 there's nothing inherently wrong with 3cyl engines. They actually sound better than 4cyl. They have a nice growl to them.
@@palebeachbum I don't necessarily disagree with you, but this is a point of personal ignorance for me. If you surveyed every single person in this comment section, 95% of them could tell you about examples they're personally familiar with of I4s going 200,000+ miles. I have no such data for I3s. It may exist, but I don't have it. The majority of I3 engines I'm aware of belong to the two-wheeled variety of transportation.
Made in Japan vs Made in Canada? I’d rather have made in Japan
You have to add the Golf R, but yes.
The rear spoiler is so juvenile-looking. Makes the vehicle look like something in a high-school parking lot. 🤣
So was the neon, WRX, Evo wing and people your age bought them back then.
I’m sure you would design something better.
fortunately it smoked the 2023 bmw m2 cs on track! :)
I dispute that this is faster than the Golf R DSG. It sure wouldn't have been in the conditions you guys were driving it. I just took a look on a popular auto sales website, and I see these Civic Type Rs have definitely come down to Earth in terms of price. Seeing them starting at ~$45k, which is where they probably should be. I'd be willing to spend $2-3k more on the aforementioned Golf R. I'd also be willing to spend $5-10k more on a 2024 G70 3.3T AWD. Even their "new" four-banger may be competitive with this, the 2.5T is a substantial improvement.
First, this is far faster than a Golf, and two why would you want a JUNK G70????; This Honda is FAR better in every way
@@DaleWilly Go drive a G70 3.3T, preferably with AWD, and let me know your updated opinion. And how is this faster than a DGS Golf R? On a prepped track perhaps? What about the other 99.9999999% of the time?
@@smithjones1906have you driven a type r? Yes Gold R maybe faster off the line but the type R is faster in a straight line from a roll. There's a bunch of comparison videos on it.
@@sharmilanraj I've seen some of those videos. Even on the track, it's close. Looking at the 1/4th mile times and trap speeds that C&D published (notoriously unreliable), the Golf R is ahead of the Type R. In real life it seems much closer.
But consider that most people just like stabbing the throttle at stoplights. In that common scenario, the Golf R (specifically talking DSG here) is going to be faster 10/10 times. Until it breaks because it's a VW. In a standing mile, the matter is far less clear.
I'm really not trying to talk-down the Type R, fwiw. I have not driven one, and likely never will. That does not make me happy. I think the style of the new one is a massive improvement, and the powertrain is a gem by all accounts. Shame the car doesn't fit my life better.
@@smithjones1906 G70 junk? they're supposed to be great. They havent gotten much attention though, you never see them on the road.
I do miss the 2 door coupe.
Kase should have done this video. This type R is a great car but as you get older the Acura type S is so much more comfortable. It drives so so good.
How are you guys actually fitting in those seats? Are you on top of or in between the bolsters lol.
What is Hondaas aversion to rwd cars. I’d always choose a Miata over this for that reason.
The front is really handsome, but the side profile and rear are awkward. Wish it was a regular sedan.
Looks better in person
De perto é diferente, muito bonito
Okiboji native! Love the hat!!
Hopefully Honda doesn't kill the looks on the Civic like they have done on the Accord and CRV.
Until it comes in a dual clutch or a ZF automatic transmission in my opinion I don't think so the gr Corolla is soon to have a automatic transmission from the Toyota Yaris I think Honda needs to understand that there is a group of enthusiasts who would love to get their hands on a type-r especially this generation but put a dual clutch or a ZF auto transmission with a Tiptronic shifter in the middle and people would love that
Bet if they used the 10Speed DCT from the 10th Gen Accord to this type R, it would be a super quick than the manual
And super boring too
@@douglaskrueger357 Boring is define by ones opinion..
Not really … never been a TypeR auto before and most likely never, as a gas powered variant. So, you better hash it out with Honda, not me.
@@douglaskrueger357 You saying it boring is subject to your opinion. lol
@@douglaskrueger357 And there is no TYPE R auto. lol.
Not a fan of low profile tires. Potholes will destroy those rims on day one of ownership.
I bent one rim and destroyed the sidewall of the tire in my GTI. Went from 18" rims to 17" and my GTI is basically better in every single way, maybe not looks. Rubber band tires suck.
Been there don’t that on the FL5 from Australia. Western country with a 3rd world roads
Just change the wheel setup to 18s! Voila
I got a 22 wrx got rid of a civic for it 👍🏼
Question: Red or white type R?
That's my exact car. Love it.
Great car guys! The GR is fugly! Cheers Kirk
Yeah, but thats not the point. Ugly is fine if all the over the top styling is functional. The problem with the last type R is it had all kinds of fake vents and stuff.
I’m on my second type R ( the FK2 variant ) and it’s often referred to as Batmans car … love it or hate it it certainly looks different . However the new model as you are testing is hardly seen here in the uk , Honda definitely went for American styling even down to a bolt on rear spoiler from Wally mart … the power is only up 10hp yet the size /weight has increased massively and it’s just sooooo boring in Hondas bid to gain American sales ( they shot the fox making this model 😭)
They got the oldest guys on staff to review it. Not sure if they're the target audience.
Okay as far as I know honda does have a DCT for their 2.0t and they use it on their type r tcr spec car. I think that is the testing you are reffering too. If they are racing it, it's going to be a damn good transmission I believe.
Sadly though Honda quality is not what it used to be. My 23 FL5 has had all sorts of issues with dashboard rattles / vibrations… it has spoilt what is otherwise a great car
doesn't look like a truck to me, yet Andre is here...
I’ve had 5 GTI’s even the Mk8 and I was looking to upgrade and when performance was the most important thing to me. I went with the FK8 type R, yes it’s ugly but insights the 5 year old playing with hotwheels inside you. FL5 is definitely a step up but it feels to subdue and looks too close a regular civic hatch.
honda figure that they offer a plain version for sale, and the aftermarket will be quick to offer mods for those who want something flashier.. its a bland white canvas
@@JogBird it definitely is blank canvas but when you see a type R you should know it’s a type R. You shouldn’t have to stare at to see if someone stuck a wing on a civic sport. Either way the Type R is a weapon that’s hard to match.
I'm thinking about getting the electric GTI when it comes out in 2027. It would be my second GTI, I have a 2015 Mk7. So hopefully a future two car garage 2024 Tacoma Trailhunter and a 2027 electric GTI. The wheels and tires on the type R means its a horrible daily driver in my mind. You have to have some sidewall for normal driving.
@@jeffk464 electric GTI hurts my soul. Yes I know it’s faster in straight line but GTI’s have always been fun tossible cars. Nothing against electric but not that car. Yes the Type R is NOT a good daily driver if you have to drive any distance. I’m lucky I commute 1 mile each day so the trade off of performance is okay with me.
Andre is what 6'4"? I think I'll fit in there. I couldn't even get in the FK8.
Complaining about no heated seats and heated stirring wheel but buys a truck with no cruise control 😂😂😂
i wish it had AWD and a hybrid... just so i can camp it in...
if they come out with a Integra Type S with a DCT, i am buying it one way or another.
Nope, it falls into the practical enthusiast car category with Golf R, GTI, Corolla GR.
Is there even room for air in those tires?
No FWD or AWD is the perfect enthusiast car IMO. They can be fun commuter cars, but a proper enthusiast car is RWD with a manual trans. ALWAYS.
Everyone has an opinion
They should offer an awd model
rear end look much better than the old one.
Nice “University of Okoboji” hat. If you know you know.
No heated seats no sunroof easy pass.
Why? Sunroof is way too heavy for a proper sports car! You obviously don’t drive track.
@@douglaskrueger357 correct I do not drive track. I also prefer luxury over sporty

Can you get it with a diesel?
Of course … not
Afternoon guys
The integra is for the grown man if you will and this is for a 17 year old. The Acura is the easy choice. I would take an Elantra n over this
But the N is really ugly and cheap looking. In 10 years it will be a car that you. Look at and say … who cares.
Better off buying a new model 3 perfornance. I owned two type r's ands it's a pain dealing with dealers. At 35 to 39k was a good deal not anymore
Driving both, the FL5 is butta.. It is also better looking, faster and a more complete car but the GR, strangely enough. is more fun. Go figure..
I rather get a used previous gen 2021+ model, Prices are going down. I’d modify the cooling, turbo down pipe, exhaust and in 3 yrs I’ll be bored of it!
I’ll take the Elantra N instead
😂
Would be nice to get an AWD R 🤷♂️
Almost an entry level super car
Not even close.😅😅😅
Who wants an automatic? Not me!
How could a FWD torque steerer be an enthusiasts vehicle?
Hopefully this one has 5 exhaust tips. got anymore jokes tfl?
That’s why it beats some rear wheel drive cars like bmw around the B roads 😂
Your opinion doesn’t matter really …
@douglaskrueger357 You seem to give a shit. whats up with that?
No spare tire? Uhh, I don't think is a great car as a daily, Honda fail on this, a great daily car always needs a spare tire, As a track car its ok.
I missed the boy racer look
No.
Yes!
Now you can get them with no markup🤫
Where?
@@douglaskrueger357 They're out there just gotta look, might have to travel to another state and they are base models which I can't tell the difference in.Looks good to me.
@@JoeSmith-nu8oo I would be shocked to find a good deal on one. Each dealer barely gets one allocation and demand is high. So, no sense that a dealer would sell it at sticker. The few that have gotten a deal, are most likely friends or family of the dealership.
Where are my heated seats and heated steaming wheel. This is a spirited sports car. Forget the new tech and the silly comforts of luxury car. If one wants heated seats go buy a Mercedes c300. Actually the only downside for me would be no hand brake. Joke!!!! There’s a need!!!

Not for big fat bodies
As it should be, bucket seats have to hug you. If the seats fit "fat bodies" then they wont hold healthy weight people in place. Fat people are supposed to buy Chevy Tahoe's.

Luckily you have two more interior colors to pick.
You sit on all the red, you can’t even see it when driving dude
I like red accents, an all red interior is way too much for me.
After you drive it, you wouldn’t care if it was pink with dots. lol
Would take the golf r over this
Way more versatile. Almost bought a white DSG few months ago. The scumbag dealer I was working with in Butler, PA insisted on a markup, and a bunch of additions that I had no interest in. I'm still keeping an eye on them, but it's unlikely I'll get one now.
versatile?
Maybe because of the AWD but versatility accounts for cargo and the trunk of the Golf R is awfully small.
You will need another vehicle if you are traveling to the supermarket with the family. With the CTR you don't have that compromise.@@smithjones1906
@@Marbind I was mainly referring to its AWD, yes. For a lot of us, it doesn't really matter how much we like FWD or RWD cars, it's just not practical unless you have a dedicated DD. That's how I feel in the Northeast, anyways. The Civic does have impressive interior cargo volume.
For a daily maybe … but otherwise, if this is a second car, the TypeR all day.
Perfect? It's 50k lol
This car makes no sense if you ever see snow.
A car in general makes no sense if you snow. A crossover/suv with more clearance and AWD/4WD is the way to go.
If you know how to drive, and have winter wheels, why not?
Overhyped & overpriced
Lol
Average cost of a new car in America is $48,769. Name one car that isn’t overpriced.
Watch for the recent massive Honda recalls
Wouldn't the competition for this be the Elantra N?
You joking right??
@@joechiodi5529 both FWD turbos with a manual
