Nice viola! Graham Vincent Cello when?
Wow, that viola sounds really bassy for a 15 incher! Well done. Going to watch the varnishing video now.
GRAHAM BUDDY ! lol i missed this one some how . i just watched the varnish video great job left you a wonderfully pondering in my mind question . the viola turned out beautiful brother but i knew it would . wish i was one of those more money then brains kinda guys i would keep you busy for sure lol .
"More money than brains"!! hehe, not sure I have much of either.
You mention that you find even fine sandpaper to be somewhat aggressive. I agree. I use worn out fine sandpaper and that does the trick. On that note and with self sufficiency in mind, what is your take on horsetail reed? I pondered planting some but it's apparently quite invasive, maybe a pot will do the trick.
Horsetail reed idea is a good one!
Hi, your viola is really nice and sound very well,
Just a small question , what can I attend in a sound point of view after have applied the varnish on my white violin, I have mounted it to do some check and for sure I have play it... but did I need to attend a cleared sound or a darker sound after the varnishing phase ?
Thanks a lot
Alex
QQQ You've discussed some of the ways you created the shape of the viola. How did you decide on the ratio and sizes of the peg box and scroll? Just eyeballing? or was there a size reference?
Same kind of question for the ribs. You had mentioned something like 40mm. Why not 35mm?
Why do violin makers have the fingerboard attached before they put the finishing varnish on as this does make it difficult to varnish under it?
