I got a tip off email about a house that was getting super overgrown in this neighborhood. So, I ran to my truck and drove over there as quick as I could. Low and behold, there was this abandoned home that looked like it hadn’t been mowed in quite some time. I spoke with the next door neighbor and he didn’t know much about it but as I was working the neighbor who sent me the email came over to say hi and he knew a lot more about the house. Turns out an older lady used to live here but ended up having to go into a nursing home. She couldn’t keep up with the taxes or the payments on the house, so it went up for auction and the city ended up buying it. The neighbor said the grass never gets cut anymore and he sometimes sees the fire department come over and do drills in the attic. So I thought I could at least get it looking better for the neighborhood again and clean up the sidewalk, making it usable for the neighbors.

I would be surprised if the city bought it. Cities aren’t in the business of owning properties. What typically happens is the owners stop paying property taxes. After at least five years of unpaid taxes, the property goes on a sheriff’s sale. If no one bids on it, then it automatically reverts to the county. Likely the county has totally forgotten that they own it.

Is it a bad thing that sometimes I drop off to sleep while watching these videos? I used to be able to do yard work and I loved it! I had almost 3 acres of yard so I'd put my headphones on, climb onto the ride-on mower and sing at the top of my lungs. I'm disabled now with a tiny lawn that my landlord ignores. The sounds of lawn machines put me to sleep. 😆😆😆

Sadly it's so typical of a town ,county or village to do just what they've done. The neighbors on the block should get together and sue the city for neglence in a class action law suit for devaluing their properties. Everyone wants to complain but no one wants to take action. A yard like this brings drugs, squatters, rats, mice and snakes to the neighborhood.

This house is no longer a revenue source for city. The city is setup to collect local taxes and levy fines against local home owners and spend the money on whatever they think is important. There is zero incentive for the city to do anything with this property. No money left here.

I don’t understand why the neighbors couldn’t come together and work in the yard as a group.
    Get to know each other.
Learn from each other as you go along.
Finish it off with a cookout , order pizzas or have a huge block party with loud music and dancing.
    Do it again next month.
Maybe help each other with your own yard work.
I hope someone will take the initiative , following SB’s lead .
