Can you do a video explaining what role tenors play in the music? I play in a pipe band and our tenors all play one drum tuned to the notes on the bag pipes. They also twirl their sticks a lot. Im Canadian and we don’t have the same marching band culture, so these huh pitched tenors playing crazy fast runs all over the place are a bit alien.
Drum 4: D very slightly flat Drum 3: F# very slightly flat Drum 2: G# very slightly flat Drum 1: C very slightly flat Low Spock: E half sharp High Spock: Bb slightly flat If these notes were not “slightly flat” and the E half sharp was just an E, you would have a saucy D9(b5,b13) which resolves quite nicely to G minor Also it should be noted that these were calculated through my phone speakers with my keyboard and I do not have perfect pitch. The people in the replies have found different pitches
You can record each drum and plot the spectrum in Audacity which will show you the pitches. Not many people have perfect pitch, but everyone has machine pitch! #fastfouriertransform
I recently saw through Facebook that you just became an official Mapex Artist and want to say that I was really hoping they would offer it to you, so congratulations and I'm sure you'll make the most out of it! As usual... MAXIMUM EFFORT! You rock and I really like everything you do!
Awesome review! I have watched all your reviews. Mapex makes first class products as all the manufactures do. I personally prefer the sound of the Yamaha's the best. The tone and ring just to me sounds like what I remember from playing in high school......surprise they were yamahas....lol great vid!
@EMCproductions just so you can add it to the list, the tama fieldstar marching tenor drums weigh 28 pounds. My school has tama marching drums and i have one of our tenors at my house and decided to weigh them.
Just wanna point out that tuning tenors with new heads is like tuning a guitar with new strings. It only stays in tune for like a minute and then it all goes to crap so yeah like Eric said noodle around and then tune a bunch lol
Very cool stuff! Could you do a video on where to get your first marching drums? I heard rumor that corps sell their used drums somewhere but never learned where. Like what are good starter drums for corps or individuals?
Okay I tried my best here High Spock: Bb Low Spock: Gb Drum 1: Eb Drum 2: Bb (again) Drum 3: Gb (again) Drum 4: Eb (again) Again, tried my best sorry if it's wrong
Video 6 of Loopy Grandma asking Lil' Peanut to play Wipe Out by the Ventures!!! Maybe be dressed as a Surfer Dude? with Surfing special effects! ... I know you are very creative, so I expect something EPIC! (almost forgot to post!)
Not criticizing your playing; you're actually tenor-god himself, but the tuning sequence overall is too low for those drums. Drum 4 especially isn't taking a good liking to being tuned that low. The California cut shells are just short enough that a tuning sequence this low doesn't resonate well. From working with Mapex lines for several years, my recommendation for drums with this depth and diameter: Drum 4: F# Drum 3: A Drum 2: B Drum 1: D Low Spock: F# High Spock: A#-D (preferably D, but to preserve head lifespan, an A# is the lowest I'd go) I also personally DESPISE pinstripes. I can truthfully say I've used and heard almost every marching head and I'd either use Remo emperor clears, or evans system blue tenor heads. As bad a wrap that system blue gets for everything, their marching heads are some of the overall best
@@TylerDunphy there's just no definition in the sound. They keep their tuning great, I'll give them that, but there's no definition in the sound of the drum, and they just sound kinda mushy and gross
@@jorjwosheengtin9612 I don't like them either. I use emperor clears for indoor and emperor renaissance outside. Renaissance sounds so good from the sideline.
@@jorjwosheengtin9612 huh, that’s odd, I’ve been tuning them for a long time and I’ve always loved the solid attack they give. Especially when you get them up to F Ab Bb Db or something around there. It also has an AMAZING spock sound. Like super great.
How do you tune these drums or where can I take them to get tuned. I’m getting this as a gift to my daughter but she is just beginning to learn to use these as she’ll be in drinking next year for school. I wanted to get her own
5:03 in my band there is only two tenor drums and one if them is perfectly fine and the other one goes all the way up to your chest and is falling appart and i have to play it like this
I might have to re-do this whole video. I can't see the drums anywhere.
Ba-Dum Tiss
well done
Boy, am I slow! It took me a while to get the joke! 😁

Low Spock: E half sharp
High Spock: Bb slightly flat

Close, but it's definitely a Bb on the high spock and an F and the low spock
I thought it was more like Db G Ab Bb F Bb (in that order; so Gm7b9b5). There might be some drum tuning nuance I'm missing though.
Not quite
Fixed ^^
Nerd (im jk)
Just off this video alone Mapex needs to make you one of their brand ambassadors. Outstanding Devil Dog! RAH
I Agree!
And now he is!!!
He now is!

that drum battle was fr one of the most impressive things on this channel

When you give the tenor drums a workout.......you give them an actual workout! Superb playing and production work....as usual.
Your video quality has skyrocketed, keep it up dude!
Love you in uniform and ultra short haircut (NO face fuzz!)
That drum battle was off the hook! Bravissimo!!
I love this! So nice to see the Marine Corps Eric, again! Just messing around! 😜
he also plays really good at 7:30 😂
@@marcelszekowski315 I changed my comment: I got a notification from coop3rdrumm3r, then rdavidr, then EMCproductions … all at 7:30!
Eric, my son has perfect pitch. I had him listen and he said your tuning is as such, B flat, F, C, B flat, A, and G. Hope this helps.
Back in my day we used Evans white heads. Loved em 🤣
You sir are an example of excellence thank you for making another sweet video!
We all new you were very good at playing with yourself.
Another Vid featuring Yung Skeeter! Really missed the bonding that you two have. Hope you can do a collab with him again. BTW Loved those mapex tenors
It looks like he left the corps too, would be good to see them do stuff in the future
I got some xymox tenor pads a year ago, shipped a few months late but on Christmas my parents gave me a framed picture of them
Those drums look incredible and sound very good
Your editing is always on point
That was actually epic! Noice editing!
this video deserves WAY more attention
Your editing is insane
Yoooo that Tenor battle was sick!
5:08 the spock roll was… CLEEEEEEEEEAN
And here my non-drummer ass really loved the low sound right outside the box. 😅
This is the one!! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
That was AWESOME I wish i could play like that bruh.
The correct pitches are:
High spock-Bb
Low spock-F
Drum 1-C
Drum 2-Ab
Drum 3-Gb
Drum 4-Eb
Editing skills are on point!
I really like the multitenor because of the brands, Pearl, Yamaha, Matex

The thing about those pinstripes however, is that they are the import pinstripes which are not as good as the USA pimstripes
Love your channel! This is AWESOME! 👍😆🥁
YES I AM SUPER EXITED FOR THIS ONE
Wow just leaving like that huh??
i keep my drum head stock and i tuned it very high and sound good
All the chairs in my church are Mapex chairs I had no idea they made drums.
wow! amazing video thank a lot, i've learned a lot...thank so much
Nice to see the music room for the military once again
Video 6 of commenting until EMC makes a front ensemble out of spocks
God damn those splits
Splits between the tenors.....crazy!!!
so cool dude , God bless bro
Did anyone else see that nice orange mustang at 5:12 in the background?
Very nice work.

Most corps have old drums for sale on their own website, there's not really a universal catalog they use.
the battle was sick! you should react to grand nationals 2021 finals
Were you at PASIC last week in Indy? I was!
Okay I tried my best here
High Spock: Bb
Low Spock: Gb
Drum 1: Eb
Drum 2: Bb (again)
Drum 3: Gb (again)
Drum 4: Eb (again)
Again, tried my best sorry if it's wrong
Sup loopy grandma

Can you make a video on proper traditional grip and molar technique
The first that would do when i would get new tenors is play jig 2
The five people who gave you-down must be squids

I really like the sound of these and the Snare, but god I hate the wraps so much
Please weigh the Tama marching tenors. They have so much extra metal in the adjustment mechanisms. I am convinced they are the heaviest out there.
YES
He can play better than me even upside down man……… godly skills
5:11 How did the wind move you, the tenors, and the camera’s direction? :O Wait. A. Second. IS ThIS aN edIt!?!?
The tenors that I have are very old and even has broken drumheads and they have lights in the drums

If you are in the marine corps band, do you still have to go through basic training
why wouldn't they let you film on the base is it legal reason's and did you quit the marine core or did you stop serving?
Our pearl quint tenors are 75 lbs how are yours so light
Can you show how you tune your drums
Years ago my teacher taught me to stretch the head a good amount on my rack and floor toms.
Is that not recommended for these type of drums?
hello emc, can we use different harnesses?
Are we gonna talk about the Trixon Marching snare drum that is $10,000?
Eric where did you go after 7:17, also where are the tenors I hear them but I don't see them anywhere
Did you have to send the drums back or did they give them to you?
