Finally!!!! I have been looking up everything I can to find some answers. My Backhoe is a 68' to 70' but as soon as you shot footage from underneath I knew I was the same setup. My hydraulics have been chattering and then eventually quitting when Ive ran it for several minutes so I hope I can find a clogged screen and it will solve the problem. I might make a video about it to help anyone else. Thank you villacoya!!!!
@@showstopper4200able yes. I was able to clean it out and I found several pieces of brake shoe material that probably was causing problems. No issues since then but now I have to try to find a new starter for the backhoe. Lol
This is a huge help, the book is very vague and only shows where the screen is on machines without any hydraulics it doesn't show how to get to the screen if there is a hydraulic filter on it, I was confused until I saw this video, thank you!
Thanks a lot, you solved a mystery. I have the technical service manual and it was pretty worthless in it's description of the screen location. I might as well pickup a new screen while I'm replacing the filters. By the way, this is one dirty job, no matter how careful one is transmission oil goes everywhere!
Before you rip off the whole filter assembly look 180 degrees from the filter on the other side of the pan. There is a plug where this screen will come out without removing the filter housing. I didn't find the plug until I had ripped of the filter housing too. But next time I'm going straight for the plug. But this video did show me where to look for the screen, next time I'm removing it the easy way, LOL..
NEVERMIND. I tried to pull that screen from the plug on the other side and it doesn't work. The hole isn't big enough for the screen to come out, but you can see inside it. So at lease a quick way to give it a look to see how bad it is or if you even need to pull the screen out.
Jamie Grames . Bugger! I watched this video and then read your first reply about the plug at the opposite end where the screen will come out. Beautiful, I thought to myself. That is how I will do it then but, obviously, someone before me had tried to remove that same plug and rounded off the edges so that I couldn’t simply use a socket to remove it. This meant I had to go into town and back ( 70 kms ) just to buy a Stilson wrench and finally removed the bolt. I then Stuck my finger into the hole to grab the filter to simply slide it out. I just wish I had read your further comment about not worrying about your simple solution because the hole isn’t big enough for the filter to come out of. This nut wasted four hours on a nut that didn’t do anything. pmsl. Spend 30 more minutes removing the two bolts mentioned in the video instead. lol. Wasn’t there some shit and metal shavings trapped by that filter. Lucky I found this video.

@@AustralianFallenPolice Thats why I read all comments before trying shit. Sorry that you wasted your 4 hour trip. I would do as the video suggests. Take the whole screen out and inspect it
That 4" long 1" diameter hose is a challenge to find, part U11186..My local AgPro farm dealer is useless for getting parts other than hydraulic filters. NAPA sells me radiator hose and it keeps blowing. Gotta be nitrol-lined for petroleum fluids. Also psi rating I gather should be 300-500, burst pressure 3x that. Hoping the new 1" & 3/4" hoses from hydraulic shop do the trick. Gotta be return lines since clamps used. My screen cannot be pulled out. Had to remove opposite plug fitting & push it out. Unbelievable the debris in my screen. Flushed the channel with 2 qts hydraulic fluid getting metal shavings out.
This was a great help, thanks. Now that I have the fitting off, how do I get the screen out? I can feel it and get pliers on it but I can't get the screen to come out.
I bought my first john deere 310B back hoe and learning still looking to.make sure were is the high pressure pump.that supplies the pressure is located. The tractor runs good just some one has rig thing a very cheap.way to keep the hydraulics working like pieced a high pressure hose when ti looks like the should have bought a long metal line that was supposed to.be screwed togather so.it started to leak
Great video, My front bucket and back bucket are moving very slow. Do you think that screen is my problem? What was your problem on why you found and replaced the screen on your John Deere?
Could you are anyone tell me what this screen cost them if they had to buy another. I seem a part number R3169. I have ordered this part from a company here near Huntersville North Carolina and they want around $73,00.I just wondering if I could get this at a better price somewhere else
Hi, I don't think the screen will cost that much. First make sure you need one, and second do some research online. Usually dealers have high prices. Good luck.

Thanks for the vid. Your right, the owners manual is too vague regarding the screen.
Thanks for sharing. This was very helpful!

I'm glad it helps 🙏
I wonder if a 310c has this same screen? My loader lift and boom lift and stabilizers are weak all the sudden.

Did you get it out? I am having the same problem.
Could you tell me the correct procedure and placement for a John deere backhoe hydraulic fluid check. Where should the boom be positioned at?

Where can I access the service manual? I have a 310d 1974 approx
Do you know where the hydralic bypass valve is?

Was the screen your problem?
What’s the size of the nut for the fitting?
Pipe wrench lol
1 7/8" use a box end wrench
A pipe wrench and hammer did it 🤣
Is there an adjuster for reverse clutches
Not sure, never have to open the transmission.
No prob thanks though I have a 1981 310a and have had a few repairs to axles and brakes pinions if you need advice
