The original pattern has ch27, this leaves use with 26 stitches on each side of the pouch. If you increase to 31 chains (30 stitches per pouch side) then you will need to split the difference (4 extra chains divided by 2 to equal 2 stitches.) Then when you work the motif you will work 2 extra stitches before you begin working the motif to accommodate for the size increase. I hope that made sense. But if you are just making the pouch without a picture on it, then you can just increase the starting chain.
