      Exactly what I was thinking, . unfortunately the Indy RC is gone and you have to assume that Chase Elliott, Ty Gibbs, and Alex Bowman will make the playoffs next year, making the road to pointing his way in that much harder.

      This may be considered a "hot take", but considering it's an American sport and literally has the word "National" is part of its name, that every race (and the money it produces for the area) stay in America. I understand wanting to build an audience but you don't go chasing a hypothetical audience that might be there by alienating the fans you already have. All of entertainment has been doing that the last five years and you can see how well that's turned out for say Disney Star Wars, Marvel, DC, etc

    I would switch Bristol and Texas. Avoid the bad weather in Bristol, add the two Texas races at the end of the west coast swing, and make a short track swing with Richmond, Martinsville, and Bristol. This would give you marketable swings early in the year and saves a ton for the teams in travel costs (if they don't tear up the equipment).

    I love it. All of it. Montreal would've been cool, but Iowa is super exciting to see.
    I think this playoff format actually caters to drivers like McDowell, Cindric, and even Haley who are great super speedway drivers and consistent on road courses. If these guys are in the playoffs, they are legitimate threats for a round of 8 appearance. After all, parity has been the name of the game lately and these aren't guys who typically get to the rounds of 8.

    I LOVE that Iowa is on the schedule, I prefer it over Montreal, but just like with NWS, it's a shame we finally get it when the short track package is at its worst. The Indy oval will feel fresh, which is cool. I don't like a lot of the schedule rearrangements, but that doesn't matter too much. I'm curious why they'd pick Richmond for Easter. The Easter race was intended to be an "all eyes on NASCAR" type thing and Richmond is quite an interesting choice for that.

    • @craigstephenson7676
      @craigstephenson7676 10 месяцев назад

      Yeah, any of the tracks around Richmond would be a better fit for Easter on paper. COTA brings in a lot of non-Nascar fans, Bristol has been on Easter, Martinsville has more prestige. Even Texas, right after COTA having a little Lone Star Swing, plus it somehow manages to have good ratings.

      Yeah, I feel like they really like the fact they ruined short track racing so their mile and a half tracks work. I know that’s not the case, just super bitter that this car ruined short track racing.

    from 2010-2018 the nascar schedule always started with the Daytona 500 and was followed by the next week being the folds of honor 500 at Atlanta motor speedway. Jimmie Johnson won a majority of the folds of honor 500 races. Atlanta may not have been a Superspeedway yet, but the surface was trash, tires blowing out and Jeff Gordon always finding the non protected areas of the track. If you don’t get the Jeff Gordon joke the race would have been 2014 or 2015 folds of honor 500. Jeff Gordon crashed noses first in to the inside wall that was not protected by safer barrier. And Darrel walltrip said (paraphrasing) Jeff Gordon on these types of tracks keeps finding the unprotected parts. This also was the race that Clint Bowyer lost a cylinder and almost started a wreck in turn 3. Jeff Gordon was driving a silver 3M car

    Really cool seeing Iowa come from being on death's door to getting not just Indycar and the lower NASCAR series back but landing a Cup Series date. Kind of kills it for me and I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels that way.

    DOVER MOTER SPEEDWAY NEEDS A NEW DATE…👇🏻
    As a fellow NASCAR fan who has attended Dover since 2011 I prefer the October race better than the Spring race. Every Spring race is rained out that’s also a reason why attendance has tanked the past few years. I think if Dover brought back their playoff race it would be more aggressive, better attendance and weather.

  • @paulday5722
    @paulday5722 10 месяцев назад +2

    The first dates for Atlanta and Bristol are way too early. It's almost sure to be cold and rainy, killing attendance for both. They need to find a way to move them back at least one month. I like the regular season finale at a track where teams can mostly control their own fate rather than Daytona which is at least 50% luck. Overall, I like it.

    The only thing I hate is Watkins Glen in the playoffs. There's already a road course in there and it's not a great race. Traditionally, it hasn't been exciting. Atlanta doesn't really race like the other drafting tracks, so I think that's fine. It's not as wide, so it doesn't lend to too much of the 3 and 4 wide racing. Iowa is definitely a welcome sight.

    All of the complaints about Atlanta as week 2 being cold when for many, many years the second and third races of the season were Richmond and Rockingham. The schedule is fine. The existence of the "playoffs" instead of a full season championship is what chops the schedule up--like it or not, it is what it is. Agree with others that finishing the season at the Charlotte oval I'd a great idea.

    So maybe a hot take, I prefer Daytona night in the spot it's going to be in '24, because now every driver can try to win the race. I've hated that drivers have had to sacrifice wins at Daytona to try and help a teammate win instead to get them in the playoffs (Reddick in '21 helping A. Dillon win, Byron & Larson trying to help Elliott and Bowman win). I want everyone trying to win a Daytona race, this now dramatically helps that.

    Well, Eric, after watching your video discussing the 2024 Cup schedule, here's what I have to say on a few things: 1st, I stand against two superspeedway races kicking off the season with Daytona and Atlanta as the first two races because I would have preferred to have Sonoma as the second race of the season while having Sonoma as part of the West Coast Swing. 2nd, while there's a part of me that doesn't have a problem with Watkins Glen in the playoffs, I stand against Atlanta being the only race in the playoffs and if it was up to me, I would make Richmond's second race weekend the opening race in the Round of 16 with the Cup race on Saturday night and have Atlanta be the next-to-last race of the regular season. 3rd, for the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona, I would have it take place after the Chicago Street Course. And finally, as I've said before, I still have mixed feelings on the news of Iowa Speedway hosting the Cup Series next year because while there's a part of me that's excited about Iowa Speedway finally getting the opportunity to host the Cup Series for the first time next season, there's a part of me that feels sad because this news means we won't get to see NASCAR return to Canada to race at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve next year, but I'll still be looking forward to seeing Iowa Speedway put on a show with their inaugural Cup Series race there and hopefully, we can see NASCAR return to Canada in 2025. All-in-all, in the end, Eric, that's all I've got to say, so let me hear your thoughts and keep up the great work!

    If you put two superspeedways and two road courses in the playoffs, you have to be prepared for the fans to not love the format even more. We'll see many undeserving and surprising eliminatons that can lead to somebody getting to the final four or even winning the championship in a silly way. Going back to stage cautions at road courses will unnecessarily mix this up even more.

    Not a huge fan of the back to back drafting races to start the year, especially considering the weather is hit or miss in Georgia in February. It just feels like a let down with Montreal being dangled in front of us. I'm sure Watkins Glen has a chance to be an awesome playoff race.
    Hopefully they can start rotating the finale, or take away some racing surface at Phoenix.
