As a Sporting fan, what I can say about Ruben Amorim is this. In general he is a gentleman, he creates a very strong bond with his players, so much so that the players do and give everything for him and the club. The Sporting dressing room is a family with the motto ‘Where one goes, all go’. We don't know how well he'll do at United, but what I can assure you is that he'll bring back United's identity, he'll make the players breathe and sweat United, he'll unite the whole club. And that's a step towards United turning round the difficult situation they're in.
The Ajax fans did exactly what you are doing now when Hag signed for united, some of them came out and speak nice things about their former manager who was then joining united, giving united fans false hope of a new dawn, you have done again here and we all know what follow: united is a grave yard that puts an end to both players and managers careers.. Amorim is the next unfortunate manager who has chosen to bury his career like his predecessors at united.
Everyone talks about Anthony . Eth spent 60 million on Mount. If he spent that on a Toney or another proven striker or a left back that could stay fit. He may have still be in a job.
No because the issue with Mount isnt ability but injuries. Toney, have spend half a year with a ban, and had he had the same injuries as Mount then its all the same. So unless you claim to be able to predict injuries then its just a pointless comment

As a United fan I can’t get excited about any manager because it’s always the same. Great first season, disappointing second season and sacked third season. Ten hag like Amorim was the new manager sought after all across Europe who played expansive football
I respect your view but apart from Hag no other manager got the support and time they needed. Remember Ten Hag brought it on himself by not playing his own play style and stubbornly played players out of position. Plus he didn't add value to his own so called I knew him well from Ajax kind of players
@@flames7 All of Van Gaal, Mourinho, Solskjaer and Ten Hag got at least two years and over 400m to spend and in all cases the team looked like it had no identity and was going nowhere by the time they were fired, despite some knockout tournament success.
@flames7 As long as Rashford and Bruno are mainstays in the team, you can not play a possession game. He couldn't simply play that style with certain individuals. This same team under Ten Hag beat Barcelona when they won LA Liga. These players are a huge part of the problem as well.
Ten Hag wasn't a new manager, he was 52 when he went to United and he'd not done anything different to what De Boer did at Ajax. Amorim is different, he's had an incredible career path in such a short space of time.
I wish him all the best but I am concerned that he will crumble under the pressure that ex Man Utd players who are now pundits will put on him. They expect the team to win every game and to perform like they were under Sir Alex and they cant accept that we need a rebuild and the glory days are gone. Arsenal backed Arteta when they were struggling in 2020 and 2021.
As a United fan, this is great news. But if the club does not get rid of certain players eg Rashford, plus a better Captain,Keeper this might be a problem again.
Jamie makes a good point about Wingbacks and the correct footedness, HOWEVER it must be noted that Amorim has used (and might actually still be using) one inverted wingback. We could unironically see Antony as a right wing back or as a left wing back, and I think thats about the only chance he has at getting in the team. Dalot/Mazraoui can both play the wingback role just fine i think. We could even see one of them at RCB if need be as well, but i think that's likely to be Yoro/Lindelof when fit, and maybe De Ligt if need be but i think he will be the CCB with Maguire, and Martinez the LCB, with Shaw as an option if he's fit... we definitely need to dip into the market for another Left footed defender. The back three means Amass is more likely to get some minutes though, which I think excites all United fans. We saw some good glimpes in preseason, along with some evidence he's still not quite ready, but Wing Back gives him a little more freedom to be offensive
Left side wing back may actually be perfect for Anthony..he is a hard worker, tenacious and being on the left would mean he would mainly be crossing the ball rather than cutting in from the right and shooting over the bar 😂
Bob Paisley won three European cups, six league titles and three league cups in nine years as Liverpool manager and could hardly string a sentence together. @MrBrasserie If you think a 3-4-3 will expose United, aren’t you underestimating Amorim’s ability to adapt his tactics to the squad’s strengths? Given his track record with Sporting, he’s shown he can develop a system that balances attack and defense effectively. Amorim's job is much harder than when Mourinho came to Chelsea. Mourinho had won the CL with Porto and Chelsea were CL semi-finalists and top-4. Amorim is not as big a name as Jose was, and United are struggling. This is a huge ask for Amorim.
I am a man united fan, and very excited about this manager. I honestly believe we need to get rid of certain player because they just don't seem to have the united mentality.... id get rid of Antony, Rashford, Mason Mount, Onana, Maguire, Casemiro, Eriksen, Evans and BRUNO FERNANDES.
It's funny how perception works, Chelsea have ran through managers for decades, so have City and Liverpool before Klopp and Pep, but when United replace a manager after 2 or 3 years its considered the biggest news in sports. If it weren't for United most of the media would have nothing to write about.
Listening to this interview: please define “succes” ! ETH finished 3rd in his first season, won the EFL and FA cup in 2 years … but apparantly this is not a “succes”. Thus i guess Amorim is expected to win more prices and finish higher in the PL.
Give Amorim the same level of patience that Arsenal gave Arteta. Why does the clubs need instant success. They just need marginal improvement. Don't rush the Coach.
Porto fan right here. United couldn't get a better manager. I'm sure he will win eventually, but one thing is for sure, united will have decent football again, 100%. It's a good time to be a united fan, you can trust me on this.
man utd spent like 600m on a load of ten hag players will be interesting to see if he works well with the players he got in the squad or if he will want a complete overhaul
Listen it’s for sure a good appointment… as a neutral , utd problem also revolves more around the club culture and atmosphere… I have big questions on the likes of Shaw, rashford, Bruno, maguire, dalot .. technically when the going gets tough they never show up and now they will give everything again once new manager comes in … until Amorim gets 2-3 top 4 finishes or challenge for titles for couple of seasons man utd will not be truly back ..but I genuinely think ten hag was a big problem last six months
Ruud, manager of manchester united. Amorim, head coach. No one higher than the other. They work hand in hand. Perfect age combination and style of play. Couldn't of had a better match
I still genuinely think ole was the right man to keep pushing with united but the board overruled him with the cr7 deal and absolutely killed him and the dressing room in the process. Felt like ole's plan was bring in a dm (someone like rice, casemiro) and use cavani with greenwood as backup (pre issues😬) for 1 more season until haalands release clause kicked in then bring him in. Casemiro showed that a dm was all they needed to really move on. But cr7 killed maguire, the dressing room and oles authority all in one deal.
I'll always recall Ten Hag attempting some banter with the media and his players. It just felt awkward. Charisma isn't the be all and end all in Football but it helps.
My concern is akin to what Zlatan said about ETH. Managing Ajax (or Sporting) is a different animal to MU. There are no superstars or player power. I think MU needed a Zidane or Ancelotti with gravitas not a young manager who will not be able to handle player power
"We have secured the services of an outstanding manager who has all the skills to build on the phenomenal legacy in place today. I have no doubt that he will bring an energy and commitment to deliver winning football that is part of the fabric of this club". Said about David Moyes in 2013.
"We have secured the services of one of the outstanding managers in the game today. Old Trafford provides him with a fitting stage on which to write new chapters in the Manchester United story". Said about Louis van Gaal when he became manager in 2014.
Sorin is the new ETH. United is not ready for Amorim. Amorim is an ambitious young manager who wants to win titles. He will try to win a title in 2-3 years to keep his reputation growing. In a league with strong City, Arsenal, and Liverpool, it is incredibly difficult to win a title. United need a manager who will build a team that will consistently compete but accept not winning a title... And then in 3-4 years time, grow into a title challenging outfit with the same manger or a new manager. I would have gone with Marco Rose.
The media wanted Poch and were out for Ten Hag from day one. Now he turned out not to be the right guy but the media pile on was crazy. Amorim feels different. Feels like the media are on board with this one. For now…
Amorim is the next great coach, until he moves to United, then the media will have him one game away from the sack for 2 years, until he gets the sack.
spot on, but you also forgot mount for 60 million with one year left on his contract.....to add salt to our wounds chelsea replaced him w a certain young lad from city
press conferences with usually only 4 or 5 reporters? That doesn’t add up! In Portugal there are 3 major sports newspaper that live and breath football, at least 3 sports cable channels that live and breath football, 4 major cable news channels and 3 generalist channels that seem to spend 1/5 of the time talking about football... Add other major newspapers, plus regional etc, etc... One would expect there would be much more than 4 or 5 reporters at a press conference for the current Portuguese football champion, which happens to be located in the portuguese capital.
"Managers having too much power" at utd is completely incorrect. Players dont get sold unless the ppl above management consent, that's being one of the biggest issues. Also, after lvg and jose, the higher-ups choosing the footballing philosophy of direct transition football has been a disaster.
I have a good feeling about Amorim at United. There has never been such a buzz around a manager since Alex Ferguson, not even Mourinho. This guy is young and he is probably one of the best young managers in the world, him and Alonso.
Its unbelievable the fact that these pundits are paid to talk about things that they can search before to get them right and just can't do that. Sporting hasn't won only 2 leagues in the past 45 years. 2 leagues were won in the past 22. Its a bit different!

I think the problem runs deeper than the coach or the players. Some good managers have been and gone. Be interesting to see how this plays out. Who thinks Sir Jim might be a little in over his head
I agree with most of the points Carra made, but I think he is very wrong when it comes to Casemiro and him being a ten hag signing. Carra uses this statement everywhere, and I don't think it is true at all. We all know ten hag wanted FDJ, and when he didn't came our board panicked and bought Casemiro, who was completely a different profile to FDJ, Now my issue with ETH is, he should have said no when they were trying to get Casemiro, but it is stupid to beleive ETH went to the board said we want FDJ and when he was not acheivable he said ok, get me casemiro(who is completely opposite to FDJ) now.
Time for Mr Impartial Jamie C to Spin the appointment and create media storm like he did ronaldo, martinez, casemiro. Anything positive United aquire or appoint hes there to ensure theres enough noise, toxicity and pressure around the Club.
no one wil criticize if they are bringing success and winning games... and criticism is part of football - +ve or -ve -- both the club n manager hav to deal with it..

Amorim is not as big a name as Jose was, and United are struggling.
This is a huge ask for Amorim.
Why aren’t you more famous?!
Because he works for sky
Until we get a new stadium, world class training facilities we aint doing nothing
Hate him or love him, but Carragher gives better and fairer insight into United stuff than majority of our ex players.
I remember people were saying the same thing about ten Hag, praising his style of football but in the end the job was too big for him to handle 😆
Porto fan right here.
United couldn't get a better manager.
I'm sure he will win eventually, but one thing is for sure, united will have decent football again, 100%.
It's a good time to be a united fan, you can trust me on this.
Jamie is having great difficulty keeping his face straight.
man utd spent like 600m on a load of ten hag players will be interesting to see if he works well with the players he got in the squad or if he will want a complete overhaul
We are sad at Sporting but you will be proud of him at Man United, that's a guarantee
Listen it’s for sure a good appointment… as a neutral , utd problem also revolves more around the club culture and atmosphere… I have big questions on the likes of Shaw, rashford, Bruno, maguire, dalot .. technically when the going gets tough they never show up and now they will give everything again once new manager comes in … until Amorim gets 2-3 top 4 finishes or challenge for titles for couple of seasons man utd will not be truly back ..but I genuinely think ten hag was a big problem last six months
sir Alex at Aberdeen is considered to be that clubs greatest period of all time winning a European cup defeating De Stefano's Real Madrid
Ruud, manager of manchester united. Amorim, head coach. No one higher than the other. They work hand in hand. Perfect age combination and style of play. Couldn't of had a better match
It will be foolish to let him go.
I expect United to win the league as a minimum this season
My concern is akin to what Zlatan said about ETH. Managing Ajax (or Sporting) is a different animal to MU. There are no superstars or player power. I think MU needed a Zidane or Ancelotti with gravitas not a young manager who will not be able to handle player power
"We have secured the services of an outstanding manager who has all the skills to build on the phenomenal legacy in place today. I have no doubt that he will bring an energy and commitment to deliver winning football that is part of the fabric of this club".
Said about David Moyes in 2013.
If they had given him the same time Alex Fergusson had, who knows?
You lot said the same about Ten Haag 🤣🤣
"We have secured the services of one of the outstanding managers in the game today. Old Trafford provides him with a fitting stage on which to write new chapters in the Manchester United story".
Said about Louis van Gaal when he became manager in 2014.
😂😂😂
Am I wrong in saying that Ole took us to 2nd twice? Is that not deemed as competitive?
It often gets overlooked that he finished 2nd in the league.
For now…
Good analysis 😊
Amorim is the next great coach, until he moves to United, then the media will have him one game away from the sack for 2 years, until he gets the sack.
Why the feck are you asking a guy who’s never won a league title or even had the bottle to give management a go 🤦♂️
Best news so far this season
I saw Sporting play against PSV a month ago, and PSV was 10 times better. Off ball movement looked a lot like how Ten Hag plays.
spot on, but you also forgot mount for 60 million with one year left on his contract.....to add salt to our wounds chelsea replaced him w a certain young lad from city
I'm just mad excited to finally have a manger who doesn't ask the question 'eh?' Every 5th word when he's interviewed
press conferences with usually only 4 or 5 reporters?
That doesn’t add up!
In Portugal there are 3 major sports newspaper that live and breath football, at least 3 sports cable channels that live and breath football, 4 major cable news channels and 3 generalist channels that seem to spend 1/5 of the time talking about football... Add other major newspapers, plus regional etc, etc... One would expect there would be much more than 4 or 5 reporters at a press conference for the current Portuguese football champion, which happens to be located in the portuguese capital.
My team signed Gyokeres for £1m, I can't believe nobody in the top 6, signed him last summer.
"Managers having too much power" at utd is completely incorrect.
Players dont get sold unless the ppl above management consent, that's being one of the biggest issues.
Also, after lvg and jose, the higher-ups choosing the footballing philosophy of direct transition football has been a disaster.
Mark my words this guy is better than pep
should have been ZIZU, We need a manager players WANT to play for and idolise.... ZIZU was the best option imo.
He’d be coaching Liverpool now if his release clause was 1 million, 10 million was too much the Red Sox’s.
To quote the great Carl Johnson, “Ah Sh!t, here we go again”
I didn't say that Amorim is not good, i'm saying he will be man utd new scapegoat
Carragher always scored own goals 😂😂😂😂i remember the days in Liverpool 😂😂. He was a top score every season among all the defenders in the league 😂😂
Jamie is giving praise just because Liverpool went after this manger before Slot.
Never went after him, looked didn't want moved on.
Didn't suit Liverpool, 3-4-3 isn't for Liverpool he never had a chance after that
they still have to sort out the glazers problem ... or at least having experienced people running the club
If they have lots of center backs, why were they playing Evans and Casemiro a little while back?
Speaking as a Liverpool fan, utd have got it right, i think he will be successful. YnwA.
lets wait for the line when he will say this is the reason liverpool didnt sign him after a loss
I have a good feeling about Amorim at United. There has never been such a buzz around a manager since Alex Ferguson, not even Mourinho. This guy is young and he is probably one of the best young managers in the world, him and Alonso.
Arteta's not a bad young manager either, some, like me, might say the best.
You're getting carried away there Seanin 😁
Lmao shut up. I’m a Utd fan btw.
Imagine thinking this dude has more hype than Jose 😂😂😂😂
LVG :"Manchester United is a commercial club"
Eric should have listened
Why’s he removed the Stoney badge?
I would do it too
Got it from Skegness market
@ 😂😂
Its unbelievable the fact that these pundits are paid to talk about things that they can search before to get them right and just can't do that.
Sporting hasn't won only 2 leagues in the past 45 years. 2 leagues were won in the past 22. Its a bit different!
Can he bring a decent Captain with him please? Thanks very much
He's a Liverpool fan. No actual manutd supporter cares what he thinks.
you should...he is an encyclopedia of football knowledge ,hes not usually wrong
@ hello carragher 503. remembering football events and football tactical analysis are not the same. A lot f you simple fans conflate things. Carragher is also a big hater of the club and you see him snickering every time we have bad moments. Besides being a bang average player that wouldn't make a top 6 side today.
Whatever you say mate. You think liverpool fans like listening to Gary fng Neville ...but we do because of his knowledge of the game...that's also why he pics jamie for the panel ....Simple fans ....give over you knob 😂
We all know ten hag wanted FDJ, and when he didn't came our board panicked and bought Casemiro, who was completely a different profile to FDJ,
Now my issue with ETH is, he should have said no when they were trying to get Casemiro, but it is stupid to beleive ETH went to the board said we want FDJ and when he was not acheivable he said ok, get me casemiro(who is completely opposite to FDJ) now.
Time for Mr Impartial Jamie C to Spin the appointment and create media storm like he did ronaldo, martinez, casemiro. Anything positive United aquire or appoint hes there to ensure theres enough noise, toxicity and pressure around the Club.
None of these guys know how Ruben will do.
One thing I don’t understand is why this so called journalists get the audacity to give an opinion about some coach that they don’t even know existed.
Gary N would know what system suits man u because he was such a good manager/coach
Its only going to work if United get a great january window but i doubt it
Give it a couple of months Jamie and rest will be criticising him because he's brought his own players
no one wil criticize if they are bringing success and winning games... and criticism is part of football - +ve or -ve -- both the club n manager hav to deal with it..
Well thats their job mate, If utd do well they will get praise, if not, they get criticism..
His biggest challenge will be to make the club and the fans believe again.
The question is also: are the ManU players good enough to fight about the PL top...?
It's not about the manager. The players aren't good enough.
