      How is plain water going to clean a kitchen floor?

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  4 года назад +2

      Robot mobs are not going to clean as deeply as a mop and bucket. If that's your expectation, you are going to be disappointed.
      In my view, robot mops are great at cleaning light to moderate messes and great at maintaining clean floors.

      Does it have any accessories that can reach into tighter spaces or is it only capable of cleaning where the whole machine can fit? Does it have any mechanism to apply pressure/scrub?

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  4 года назад +1

      @@peachy842 It does not. It can only clean where the entire machine can fit.
      The pressure is generated by the weight of the machine itself to gently scrub and remove. Sometimes it can take a couple of passes to remove more stuck on dirt.

    I have an iRobot Vacuum and I love it. I was looking for an iRobot Mop but I do not see that this iRobot worth the money, especially if it's just simply water. It doesn't heat up the water nor I can't add floor cleaner. It will even be faster to spot mop manually vs, starting the mop and trying to point it to the dirty spot. Here I see some people asked if it cleaned up a pet urine, I personally would not do it, because again you can't add floor detergent to disinfect the spot and remove the odor. The thought of letting the iRobot to run around and go back to the source with a dirty pad soaked in urine is very gross. I will be looking and waiting for a better product to come up in the market though.

    I use it everyday and it’s great. Few bugs, I’m sure they will update,it does have threshold issues, but hey I just tell it to go and help it over, then it does the rest. That’s just the bathroom though, so it’s not everyday. Does great keeping the kitchen and walkways constantly clean and when it works in tandem with the i7 vacuum I’m a happy man. However, there’s a few spots it can’t reach and that’s fine, but no more dust bunny’s under the couch and bed.

    • @jameslinisus
      @jameslinisus 3 года назад +1

      You're right, Sean. I put off buying the m6 because of the threshold issue. But iRobot has now added a Threshold feature. Here's how it works (from iRobot home support website): "Whenever your Braava encounters an area where you've added a Threshold, it will disable rug ride-up detection and maneuver itself over the perceived obstacle. Your Braava will know where it can mop more space at once without needing to be manually carried into other rooms by you."

    Usually when I see a video like this that has only positive feedback with zero negative input I automatically think it’s a paid endorsement or the company has supplied these products free of charge for the review. I’ve been using iRobot products since they first hit the marketplace and none of them are 100% effective. They all have issues.

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  2 года назад +2

      Perhaps I should have spent more time on the negatives.
      While there certainly are issues, the issues are far less dramatic than other brands I've tested.
      The m6 is still among the best robot mops on the market, especially at this price point. Granted, Roborock's S7 MaxV Ultra is indeed better, in addition to Narwal's T10, those are massively more expensive.

  • @Dagot1948

    I've had 2 Roborock S6 vacuums for 3 years now (one for each floor of the house). I only need wet mopping on the first floor and decided to purchase the m6. Roborock and the m6 can't share the same map, and that's ok, but I have to say the Roborock mapping is light years ahead of the m6. I knew beforehand that the m6 can't handle threshholds and it really can't. The Roborock will climb over just about anything! For many locations in our house, I have to pick up the m6 and bring it to the desired area. Our family room is half carpeting and half wood. Unfortunately, the carpet is counter-sunk and is at the same level as the carpet. The m6 can't tell the difference and will try to wet mop the carpet. To prevent this, I had to set up barriers along the line dividing carpet from floor during the mapping process. It works fine now. The setup was very easy but the mapping process is somewhat confusing and takes a few tries to get it right. I love that I can name rooms, divide rooms, etc. Braava now supports a few different liquid cleaners you can add to the water (see the Braava m6 entry on Amazon for a current list). I've been using Bona concentrate (for hardwood floors) and it has done a great job without streaking. If you wish to use a cleaner for hard surfaces like ceramic tile, Bona has a separate product that also is streak-free. For my needs, the m6 is great and I'm happy with it, despite a few limitations. For wet mopping, I'd recommend the reusable mopping pads as a money-saving alternative. As for cleaning solutions, buy the concentrate rather than the pre-diluted liquid cleaner. No need to pay for water and the added shipping cost.

    Best review I've seen in a longtime :)
    One question. I have white pigmented wooden floors, which need a special wash to keep re-adding the pigment and protective layer with every wash.
    Do you think I can add the pigmented soap to the water tank in the robot?

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  4 года назад +3

      iRobot doesn't recommend adding anything but water to the M6.
      If it's particularly gentle soap you would probably be okay, but in general I would avoid it.

  • @macrumpton

    It would have been nice to compare it to the iRobot Braava jet 240 which is available for less than half the price of the m6. Also, rather than just tell us what is wonderful about the product, it would be useful to hear where it was not so great and what could be better.

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  4 года назад

      You can see a side by side comparison here - moderncastle.com/braava-m6-review/#compare
      As far as areas where the m6 isn't as good...quite frankly, there just aren't that many. It's the best navigation and cleaning performance we've seen in a robot mop to date by a healthy margin. The biggest downside is simply the price point.
      Perhaps the biggest downside is that they don't include washable cleaning pads with the m6, so you have to buy those extras. Given the price point, it really should include those, in my view.

    Hello, thanks for the review! I have 2 questions:
    1. Does the braava m6 spray to the furniture by mistake?
    2. Do we need to use destilled water? We live in a place with hard water and limestone could be an issue.
    Thanks!

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  4 года назад +4

      1. It seems to do a good job of detecting furniture and making sure to not spray it. During our tests I never have seen it spray furniture or carpet.
      2. It would probably help, but I don't believe that iRobot recommends or requires distilled water.

    @modern castle nice review .
    I have few doubts if you could please clarify
    1. How good it would be on white marble flooring ?
    2. Its design in such a way that mop is in front and wheels are back side. So will not it leave marks of its own wheels while moving forward to mop the floor ? If possible can you show close up of tile in next video

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  3 года назад

      1. We didn't test on marble floor, but I don't have any reason to believe the performance would be massively better / worse on marble relative to any hard surface flooring.
      2. Some users have reported the M6 leaving tire marks on their floors. Despite our efforts, we were never able to replicate this behavior. I expect it's a problem that's more likely depending on floor type and floor finish.

    Btw thanks a lot for the help. I have 2 questions. First. Does it mean that because it has a camera it can avoid obstacles thanks to just the camera or it anyways have to bump into object to notice it and the camera is just for mapping? Second. What would you do after a long time of use that the wheels got hair in them and debris and therefore start malfunctioning. Can you disassemble and clean them or its like the old 240 braava that its not possible?

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  4 года назад

      It still will bump into things, just less often. Once it has your home mapped it has a much better idea of where it is and where it's going. But it doesn't mean it never bumps into stuff.
      The wheels don't remove super easily, but it does look like there is a screwed plate on the back that would come over and provide better access to the wheels if you need it.

    Is there a real fix for houses with room divisions, saddles, thresholds, or whatever you call them? I’ve added thresholds to the map, covered sensors, things I’ve seen on the internet, but nothing works. Do all you guys have either flat or no transition zones between rooms? • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  3 года назад +2

      It works on all hard surface floor types.
      The thing with robot mops is they are great because they are automated...so they just always run. That said, I've yet to test a robot mop that I would say is a 100% replacement for a traditional mop. They do a great job at light to moderate messes and are also ideal for maintenance style cleaning. However, you should still keep your Swiffer or other traditional mop.
      You won't need to use that traditional map nearly as often, but there will be times when the robot mop just isn't enough.

    How does the M6 go at the top of the stairs? Does it do the lemming leap and fall down the stairs? Or if I wanted to use it on our hardwood-floored outside verandah, how would we stop it falling off the edge? Is there a way to fix a boundary cable under the verandah edge, for example, with a powered FM signal in it that is recognized by the M6 in the same way the Hidden Fence keeps our dogs in?

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  4 года назад

      It has drop sensors, so it will not fall off stairs or other large drops.
      The m6 does have smart digital maps also. So you can create keep out zones to keep it away from certain ledges, obstacles, or anything else you don't want it near.

    It's funny how people recommend this product because they purchased it today and it cleaned their floor. I would highly advise against this mop. Having used it for 1.5 years, this device is a constant battle to make it work properly. Often doesn't start because there's something wrong with maps; manually programming it to mop the whole house often ends with it just doing one room and finishing the job. It gets lost, takes 10 minute to dock and opens a "secret passage" to another world on the map which is the length of multiple maps. Yes, it cleans the floor. But requires a babysitter.

      It sprays 3-4 inches in front and the spray is probably 3 inches wide.
      I have never seen it spray a carpet or rug (I think the sensors are able to understand when to NOT spray), but even if it does...it's a fairly small amount of water for each spray.
      Regarding hardwoods - you should check with your hardwood manufacturer to see if it's safe to use water on your hardwood floors. Most hardwood floors should not be cleaned with water. However, the dry dusting feature on the M6 works great (that's what I do primarily in my home)

      As far as getting under furniture, it does a nice job. It has a low and lean profile, so it can get under many furniture pieces.
      In most cases (at least all the case I've tested), when it sees carpet it will not continue onto the carpet. So long as it has a hard surface path around the carpet it'll continue to clean your hard surfaces though.

    High school teacher in Hawaii here. One of our biggest drawbacks is we have red dirt, which can stain things quickly. I'm wondering, would this device be able to sweep/mop my classroom? Would it be able to detect the legs of our lab tables and the legs of our student desks and avoid them? The thickness of the legs range from like 1 inch to 4 inches, would it be able to avoid them? At the start of the year we get one floor stripping/waxing which of course makes the floor look great. But as the year goes on, students track in dirt, and the floor slowly gets stained/dirty. I should mention, our floor is hard tile (ceramic). I usually have my students do a sweep/mop once a month, but this would be great to just maintain cleanliness overall. Really hope you are able to answer my questions as I am definitely considering getting one of these.

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  4 года назад

      The m6 can definitely mop the area, but it's not a sweeper. It can dry dust or wet mop.
      Most likely it's going to run into the desk legs and then continue. iRobot's technology, even in the most advanced form, still will bump into furniture as it figures out where everything is in the room. Once it has a better understanding of the area that will decrease over time.
      Based on what you've described I think you should consider a Roborock S6 MaxV or a Roborock S5 Max.
      Roborock S6 MaxV - amzn.to/3iLTU3V
      Roborock S5 Max - amzn.to/357YX7z?tag=moderncastle-20
      Both of the above models both vacuum and mop at the same time. Vacuum is positioned ahead of the mop. This allows it to remove debris before mopping. Now, the mop isn't a miracle worker, but it will help to keep the dirt and dust down over time.
      You can see our S6 MaxV video here - ruclips.net/video/AqDd5cy-pqg/видео.html - we don't have a S5 Max video, but it's basically the same except for slightly worse obstacle detection and about $200 less expensive.

      Braava sells its own cleaner for the Braava 6 and has very recently approved the use of Bona (liquid or concentrate) floor cleaner. I use the Bona concentrate in mine and it does a great job without streaking. There are one or two other cleaners that can be used. I'd go to Amazon and read the list under the Braava Jet M6. I believe Fabuloso and a Clorox product are now allowed.

      I would say it really depends on the level of grease. Small to medium amounts it should have less of an issue with and be able to soak them into the cleaning pad / clothe. However, if it's a larger amount it's more likely to not be able to fully soak it up, therefore spreading it.

      @ModernCastle  4 года назад +2

      1. Regarding the bleach, I know iRobot does not recommend that. So we have not tried it. I'm not sure how that would impact the M6's operation
      2. For the coupling problem, I would suggest you factory reset the robot and then reconnect to wifi. That usually resolves issues like that.

      @@ModernCastle 1. The highlights for you coincide with the place that sells them, (I don't know if it is so that you buy the expensive liquid product from them or if it can be done).
      When in doubt, I recommend placing bleach on the floor to disinfect and then pass the Braava, (although it was ideal, if you could put a droplet of bleach in the tank water).
      * There is another product or a container even bigger and cheaper than can be used in the Brava robot *.
      2. I did this by resetting it and reconfiguring it, but the "coupling problem" remained the same, Now I noticed that when I left the 1. "Pantry Room" where I placed the Roomba, as well as in the 2. "Main Bathroom" and 3. "Toilette", there is a small step on the floor.
      There are three places with steps and the "1. Pantry Room", the most important from where it comes out and has the base. (Home Base)
      That difference in the floors the Braava lowers it but does not raise it, (different with the Roomba that climbs obstacles carpets with ease). There it is like to be tied, it seems to me and it says "Coupling Problems or Battery is spent and it does not return to the home base", then send only to clean once the map has been achieved, the area without leaving the step of the "1. Pantry room "and returned alone to its base without coupling problem," I think that is the answer. " * I would be interested in your opinion *
      Excelente info and video, and I really appreciate your answer, they help me a lot.

      You're not wrong.
      We like to use honey as it feels like the most extreme thing you could do vs. a mop (and something we've done on almost all of our other mop tests). So that's why we use that.
      But, I agree, for something like that most people are more likely to simply wipe it up with a rag or cloth.
      I have seen other reviewers complain about the tire marks, but that's not something we experienced when we tested. If we had, we would have called it out as an issue.

    I'm really considering upgrading to a robot mop but I have a question for those more knowledgeable individuals. Does the mopping function spread or drag whatever dirt it cleans to other areas of the room? I have 2 cats, one of which is a 3 month old kitten. Every now and then he tracks small bits of poop from his litterbox on to the floor. That's just a part of being a kitten, they eventually grow out of it in adulthood. Anyway, this is the reason I'm interested in getting a robot mop, but 'm afraid it might simply spread a thin layer of pop infused water around the entire apartment. Does anyone have any experience with this problem?

    Nothing about how big an area it can clean? Nothing about cleaning uneven tile surfaces?

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  2 года назад +1

      Coverage ranges, but in general it should be able to cover up to 2,000 square feet.
      With respect to tile, again, it ranges based on uneven those tile surfaces are. I've used my m6 on a pretty standard modern kitchen tile without any issues on the grout line.

      I'd start by trying to clean the wheels with a microfiber cloth and a bit of soap / water. If it continues to leave tire marks then you should return.

      Yes. If you buy it in the EU (rather than an import from abroad) then any features advertised will work just fine. If you buy an import, you'd probably still be fine but there's always a risk certain features won't work.

      1. Double check the app and make sure your water spray is turned on
      2. Make sure you're using a mopping pad and not the dry dusting pad
      3. Make sure the nozzle isn't clogged (hard water could clog it over time)

    Wouldn't the Ilfe 400 that has a separate dirty water tank work better? It seems that by removing the dirty water for disposal is much more efficient then having a pad collect it and possibly redistribute it on other parts of the floor. Thanks

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  4 года назад

      Yeah, it's quite possible, Robert. We haven't tested the W400 yet, but it does seem to get pretty good reviews. Here it is for anyone else reading this amzn.to/2D3xQhD
      I would say that more complexity doesn't always mean better performance. The HOBOT Legee 668 has a similar design, but really under-performed and just wasn't a great value.
      In any case, we need to test the W400 in the future to get a better understanding. Thanks for bringing that one to our attention.

    How does it work with area rugs? & also does it work on tile floors

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  4 года назад

      Provided the area rugs are reasonably thick it should simply run into them, realize they are a non-moppable obstacle, and then return to mopping the lower hard surfaces.
      And yes, it works perfectly fine on tile floors.
