While in the Air Force, I flew out of Galena Alaska at 50 below. The very nice ground crew preheated my cockpit with a Herman Nelson heater, which I appreciated. As I was taxing to the runway in my warm cocoon, I went past a security policeman guarding an aircraft in the cold, and had sympathy for him.
Have A Great Veterans Day To all our Military and that have served our Armed force's in and outside of our Country the great US of A. God Bless you all and God Speed to you too! From A United States Proud Citizen Me Bruce Beekman Junior!!!!!!!
Very high quality footage, just a pleasure to look at.
i was waiting for a cold start😂
First time seeing fighter under snow
Great footage
Outstanding quality of both!
Great video. Love those jets. Must have been cold as hell making these images. Big thanks.
Stationed at Elmendorf from 83 - 85. Worked in the MSL (Maintenance Supply Liaison)Unit. Procuring hard to get parts to keep our 21st TFW F15's flying. It was spectacular to watch the F15's take off with full afterburners in the dawn and the vertical climbs were awsome to watch.
Wasn't stationed in Alaska but watching the video brought back memories of working the line in Wurtsmith AFB in Michigan. When we got those lake effect snows off of Lake Huron it could be real interesting.
My hat is off to everyone who flies these awesome beasts! I can only wish I could get a ride.
Steve Egbert so do I!
Let’s goo baby this is great footage
out of all the aviation videos I have seen this is the best especially at 7:38 so sick in slow mo
I'm amazed, Thank you for sharing this video. 👍👍👍👍
I used to get up there in the 70s and 80s. Those are our boys making the hard stuff look easy.
Are you a pilot?

F16 is still the sexiest fighter jet till date. ♥

Love the crew chief who warmed his hands up on the exhaust of that Strike Eagle.
I love the sound 😍
That was so satisfying.
Thanks. Great Video.
Nice very nice 👍🏽 awesome video . 😎
Liked it
Nice weather!
Love the sound of the Hog
Very cool. Post office is not the only one...
40 yr old F15s. Wow. Time flies. Keep'em flying
Awesome 😎
Nice weather
Great
The A10 sounds like a RC on the take off but in battle is the right hand of Uncle Sam.
I know it sounds no weird
But the sound of the GAU 8 30 MM is a great sound. Never worked A10s Wished I had. But loved the 20 mm. Souds like a buzz saw,on the ground. I am sure the bad guys hear it their ducking for cover.
My old stomping grounds at Eielson AFB @ MP 26, Richardson Hwy. I worked in the most popular shop during the winter. AGE. 1966-68. All those heaters and de-icing trucks to take care of. I'd imagine that those Kadena Eagles (ZZ tail flash) were a bit anxious to get home. Yeah, I was with the 18th TFW at Kadena when the F-15s were first assigned there in 1979.

These PILOT'S are KINGS so they fly with most expensive and fastest machines on earth.
good
Beautiful 🍻
damn it feels good to be an American go Air Force go military
This weather does not affect the aircraft as some may believe. They operate in far colder weather at altitude.
Just chillin' out in The Last Frontier

@@ronaldrobertson2332 hey fueler, boy do I remember them, and those pain in the ass hose carts for the big heavies !!! I still smell that Jet fuel (JP-4) #MEMORIES
Yeah, but they sure came in handy when we had to refuel an E-4B. Used to put one on each wing and between the two of us, we'd put on 48,000 gallons. The E-4 was a thirsty bird.
@@ronaldrobertson2332 very true, I guess the ones we had while I was in Germany wasn't in the best of shape. Was in the shop most of the time. We used the R9 DIESEL trucks which was a joy to operate most of the time. Was at ramstein ab, headquarters Europe (USAFE) 86TH TFW F4E's , and plenty transit aircraft for refueling stops !!!

First thing I'd be thinking of getting into that cockpit "Ok, where's the switch to start the heat in this thing?" I can't imagine how cold it must be in those jets after sitting out over-night, then having to jump in and perform a cold/dark start. Sure once you get power going and the engines up, it probably gets comfortable but I imagine when they first jump into the bird it's just as cold in there as it is outside.
the tail number code OS is for the 51St Fighter wing Osan Korea not Alaska. there tail code is AK for all bases in Alaska.
I worked the A10's at Eielson from 85-90. The hawg loved the cold. Anyone remember Yukon lighting Oct 86. AIr Force wide A10 competition? 2 weeks of hawgs from all over the Air Force
ferrari
I was just thinking about how much better these engines would do in a low density altitude day
I worked on the A-10s at Eielson from '83-'86, and no, the A-10 didn't "love" the cold. Fuel tank foam fires, collapsing gear struts and tires, etc. Yet this video is hardly a representation of "arctic" conditions. Try doing combat turns all day long at -30 to -35 degrees! This video looks more like mid Sept to early Oct timeframe. They're wearing field jackets instead of parkas.
Yes there was fuel foam fires which ended with the black fuel foam, and yes winter weather was extremely cold but we on the A10 did not stop flying until -50 below zero, not because the plane could not fly but because the pilot would not survive the ejection. My plane was 80-0221 the original snow hog and we did ict's (integrated combat turns) and hot pits every Wednesday no matter the temp. I also ran the thunder 3 truck on the ramp as expeditor so I know how the A10 worked in the cold, yep gear struts flattened out but once repacked and serviced it was good to go for the winter. On side note it was an A10 from Eielson AFB that set the world record strafe in Gunsmoke 89. I was the. Crew chief on that plane and Capt. Angus "Goose" Simpson was the pilot. Visiting A10 pilots were in awe when flying the hog in cold weather. The TF34 loved the cold.
@@richardwhite5071 I remember 0221 well. I imagine they finally repainted it to get the last of the white off. I worked out of the old nose dock 7 and moved down to the new facilities on the loop shorty before I left. I expedited Lima & Nancy ramps and was the specialist flight chief before I left. Coldest I ever flew in was about -50. That was only for a day or two until it "warmed up." Maybe there were fewer problem operating out of the new facilities, but working off the open ramp was a bear.
I want to say God bless😓😓
Quick questions or anybody. Is there any heating or cooling system within the cockpit or is it all done through the flight suits e.g thermal clothing?
What is that a 1/4" of snow?
Elmandorf 81-83- volunteer to Galina 83 to 85 AGE Shop ,do it all again in a second, loved Alaska
Also worked for R. Reagan , he would have giving the order to shoot down Russian or Chinese balloons as soon as they cleared their airspace not after they traversed the globe like the spy Biden
Красиво 😊👍
Here comes the snow :PIXY
In the sumer i miss it but when winter comes its ok but it bites 😉
@1:50 It was amazing to see a single engine aircraft like F-16 make such a sharp right turn at walking speed! I thought you couldn't steer the front wheel since there was no power or motor there. Does it have one?
I’m fairly certain there’s a thing called nosewheel steering on most fighters, yeah it’s basically a motor that turns the front wheel to do sharp turns. Carrier planes like the F/A 18 have it for sure I’m not sure about f15s and f16s.
Air refueling is one of the hardest part
Curious about if any AC in the cabin...
Do they have winter tires?
Why leave the snow and ice on the aircrafts? I flew for 3.5 years in Alaska out Ft. Wainwright, our aircraft had no snow or ice.
Is it warm inside cockpit?
Wears the Snow?I went to Artic Survival School,Jan.'93
what happened to the snow at around 2 min ??
Does it ever get to cold to start the turbines in thes birds?
👍👍👍
Must be at Elmendorf AFB!
I think it's Eilson near Fairbanks - judging from the terrain and the highway next to the runway. I think Elmendorf would be more mountainous.
Definitely Eilson AFB lived in Fairbanks for 8 years
I Love F16❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I was stationed at Eielson AFB Nov 1975 to Jan 1979 as an Air Traffic Controller. The new Tower was opened in April 1976. One of the first to work in it. Surprisingly the New F16 was there for Arctic Cold Testing in Jan 1979..the month i left. Only F 4s and T 33s and O2s were the primary Aircraft. Of course the RC 135s AND KC 135 were the workhorses. 5010 Combat Support Group and 6th Strat Wing. My Squadron was the 1995th Comm Squad. FAA had the Fairbanks Approach Control on the base then. Air Force tranditioned The Radar Final Control Radar to their control not until 1978. All changed in 1979-1980.
Thank you for your service sir
I was stationed there Oct 86 to Oct 89 AGE
USAF good👍
I wonder how hot the ground is where the planes pulled their noses up. The afterburn and exhaust must've heated that pavement a little

how come dont have shield house for all F-15s / F-16s inside the shield for protection rainy / snow/
I`m from Rio de Janeiro and it`s autumn now. I am freezing on 20ºC lol, so i can not imagine negative temperatures. That would kill me, i don`t know lol.
Me too.
Remember that in the sky ,the temperature are others , to 5000 feet Is -15°C
WOW....and what squadron/mission are the blacked out F-15's?....AWESOME
Can Conservative
I was wondering the same? I wonder if perhaps they are Korean (ROK) F-15Ks?
@@fritzd2116 you are correct they operate 59 k models and could belong anywhere from the 1st fighter wing to the 38th fighter group. I'd have to see the patches much closer to give exact unit. But good eye on the nationality ;)
@@fritzd2116 Actually I believe I deduced it to the 11th fighter wing!
Here is nearly identical squadron in both paint scheme and unit badge seen on the side of the intake:

Man i bet F-22s would look heck of a monster being covered in snow.
That skin is to sensitive and expensive to be covered in snow. F22s get a shed
To me A-1 is the meanest one.. But what it was doing in Alaska..
💖
fuck yeah that's awesome
I left Alaska in 1983, December.
I wonder if they have heated seats🤔
ROKAF F-15K also See
I can see several Korean F-15Ks from DaeGu Base.
♥️F16♥️
i always wondered how does airplane engine still runs great during the heavy rain and snow.
Where is the snow?
No Deice required?
Silly question I know but do the pilots have heat in the cockpit?
Sam Lams Top 10 only when engine run.
In such a cold weather, the engine operate at it's best efficiency.
hmm how do uknow
The mass of air is dense. Better for combustion

I hope those fighters have some good heaters in them!!
They have a burning rocket behind them so they sure do have something good to extract heat from ;)
Planes use their own engine heat in place of heaters.
