Fishing Vessel Be Ready Fire 22nd Jan 2000

20 years ago, on the 22nd January, the Fishing Vessel Be Ready went on fire in a Force 9 Gale.
The blaze spread so rapidly the crew had no time to don survival gear. Their liferafts were destroyed.
The following incredible footage shows the heroic rescue efforts by the Fishing Vessel Mizpah.
A stark reminder of the real cost of fish and the camaraderie of a fishing community that share the bonds of common risk and heritage.
Facing uncertain risks and dangers to pursue a job we love to support our families; a way of life and heritage we belong to; and to harvest our fantastic stocks to feed our nation and provide it with food security.
We ask politicians not to forsake that or us.
