I had an 88 IROC back in the day that was Pro Tour before that existed. I made it a Vortech SC 383 with T-56 6-SPEED transplanted in place of the 700R4. Pro Chassis 6-point cage with sub-frame connectors all welded in (Chrome Molly) Custom made Boyd's with 315s rear , IN THE FENDERS , 295s up front. Suspension Techniques kit for everything from sway bars to springs , shocks. Schroth harness for driver. The DFI ECU that replaced the factory ECU was programmed by me. I converted it from mass-flow to speed density. This was all done in 1993 !. The engine had vette ported aluminum heads and a Lingenfelter Box-Ram intake. Battery relocated to right rear. It had 3.23s and was not set up to drag but still ran low 11s and I could smoke the tires at 60 MPH. It handled like it was on rails and beat Vipers of the day. It sounded like a dragon coming down road with Banks exhaust , gutted cat , headers.
When you remove carpet, always treat the rust in the floorboards--even naval jelly or bedliner in a can. Test all wires for any short issues, tape 'em in place, then lay down some HVAC sound deadener from Home Despot--cheaper'n dynomat. Pre fit carpet is great, and shag from the local fabric store can be groovy-cheap, too.

I was just surprised that you put the rusty nuts, bolts and brackets back in without at least knocking the rust off. Specifically talking about the bracket at 16:27 time stamp.
I had an 84 and I've done the same job. You guys definitely make it look easy. I remember I put a small crack in the center console because if the e brake nonsense lol.
The only hot teacher I had in school was my 4th grade teacher, she was fresh out of college. By the time I hit high school, she was the gifted high school student teacher and the years weren’t very kind.... My English teacher was a middle aged overweight hag with a cocaine problem name Ms Hayt and she lived up to her name. She had a 60% failure rate in her class. I knew of straight A students that barely passed her class. A student who graduated a year before me married one of the history teachers the summer he graduated. Nothing to see here folks.....

While you had all the trim panels out you should have installed some Dynamite and put a drop of silicone on every single Threaded Screw that you put it back into that plastic these cars are notorious for vibration noises and this really helps keeping everything tight and solid
One thing that y'all didn't take into account with the V6 is that the 3.6 can easily be transformed into a beast of a V6 and is plenty capable of running down a factory SS with only bolt on mods. (Well, maybe not running it down, but running with it) I have always been a big fan of making the underdog run with the big boys.
By the time you're done "hopping up" ($$) that 335 hp V6 to 455 hp, why not just put a V8 in it in the first place? LS engines are literally all over the place, but you want to dump money into a 3.6L V6?
just bought a 1988 pontiac GTA yesterday(to give my 1986 trans am someone to play with) with the L98 350,new ceramic coated headers,stainless exhaust,rebuilt trans,4 wheel disc brakes,posi trac,digital dash $950 delivered......these sell for 4-5 times this price and this condition
You people couldn't fix all the rust on that floor pan before just laying that nice new carpet on that grimy rusty floorpan? Also, before you wave that "buy American" flag too hard, regarding the Norwood plant closing, let's not forget all those American jobs GM shipped off to Canada in 1993 for nine years of production, before unceremoniously pulling the plug on the F-body cars for eight years before bringing back the Camaro. GM is also a company that's significantly invested in shipping off manufacturing jobs to such lovely non-American locales as Mexico and China. Don't forget about GM's recent closure of that AMERICAN manufacturing plant in Ohio - not to mention all those American jobs that got the boot.
Carpet $380/ dash pad $688/ Headliner $250/ Sun-visors, $170/ speaker panels $40/ seats $320/ mounting brackets-$30= $1900 ( assuming they did not actually buy new panels but not mention it). I will also say it again. NO ONE is putting a used block with $3000 in upgrades without a rebuild. NO ONE. So that should be included in the price to build this car. At that point a 325 hp crate motor would be cheaper.

No dynamat, no rust removal from the interior, rattle can cleaning supplies? Very very hillbilly. Still, far better than what they started with, but only half hearted.

Yeah that's pretty bad. My 1999 Camaro Z28 made 305rwhp with just an air intake lid and a different muffler. I think that mystery 350 did 227rwhp without the spray. And nitrous is stupid on a street car anyways IMO, those bottles are expensive to fill and you always run the risk of hurting/blowing up your engine.

Something I don't understand is why would you spend all that time doing the new upholstery and carpet and NOT power wash the floor pan to make sure it is as clean as possible before re-assembly??? They said something about the smell, because a rodent had been hoarding pet food and probably feces, but they didn't CLEAN the surface enough to make a difference.
I would have cleaned the car after removing all of the upholstery. During the part where you were putting on the new sun visor, I couldn't get over the rust on the corner that needs to be cleaned up. I think the car could have used some new speakers as well.
that was pitiful.. of course the console doesn't fit in when you had the seats out when you removed it... and then those rusty brackets and hardware you didn't clean up and the fit well theres gaps everywhere .. thats just sad.. its just sad sad work

Well considering what car it is and how old it is, I don't think it matters much. Didn't seem to be more than surface rust anyway. These guys wouldn't be able to do a complete full restore on it either way as their skills seem lacking in many areas.
@@JackPecker911 They have restored many cars. Tommy has no problem working with metal. This was supposed to be a budget build but I would say maybe they could have sprayed a rust inhibitor. They may have but not shown it that has happened before.

Hey guys can u tell me what the wires r behind the back seats? They are in the center and I think the fuel tank is right behind it. I do not have fuel injection so it us not for a fuel pump. Are thise wires for the fuel sending unit fir the gas guage in my 85 camaro sport? I have a 305 motor too. Love my car. Have driven it for over 20. 2nd female owner too.:) I am restoring the carpets too so this us s helpful video. Would u know where I might find the small bolts that hold the interior light in place? And also a couple of clips that hold the t top replacement cover does not come with holder brackets for the front to hold that in place. I guess you just forget those?? Thank you very much. Only video I found that shows proper instalation of that ttop cover!! Yeah!
I just rebuilt a 1986 Camaro but cant get the 3rd brake light working theres a wire that that hangs not connected and same with the connector where the hatch meets the body. If possible please do a video of 1986 Camaro 3rd brake light rework/issues
Unfortunately those seats don’t really match. 😞. Also I would have used adhesive promoter on the hard flexible parts while painting. I did Sem on my 1982 928. And it lasted for more than a decade. Looked great
Those plasic seat belt housings always crack and then end up looking like crap, I found out recently they're finally being reproduced. I replaced mine 3 times with used ones that somehow weren't damaged, I used the seat belt once and they started to crack. I eventually used forth gen ones, they seem to work.

T top and door seals need replaced. Had moisture issues in my 89 Pontiac Formula 350 but after I replaced them the moisture issue stopped.
I know they aren't the most popular but for my personal preference, those late 80's Formulas are the best looking Firebirds ever.

They have $3000 with the NOS in that motor. a 325 HP crate is $3500 turn key.
Even for a budget build I always shoot for at least 1hp per cubic inch. A crate motor summit can get you 297 horses for around 2500
There is no way in hell that interior was $1000 bucks.. that dash alone is 500 bucks..

I just rebuilt a 1986 Camaro but cant get the 3rd brake light working theres a wire that that hangs not connected and same with the connector where the hatch meets the body. If possible please do a video of 1986 Camaro 3rd brake light rework/issues

Would've done Black Carpeting to make the yellow pop more on the outside but thats just me.
Unfortunately those seats don’t really match. 😞. Also I would have used adhesive promoter on the hard flexible parts while painting. I did Sem on my 1982 928. And it lasted for more than a decade. Looked great

Those plasic seat belt housings always crack and then end up looking like crap, I found out recently they're finally being reproduced. I replaced mine 3 times with used ones that somehow weren't damaged, I used the seat belt once and they started to crack. I eventually used forth gen ones, they seem to work.
So you guys took the carpet but didn’t take time to clean that floor and seal it with some por 15 or anything? Ok lol
