    I dont think people fully appreciate the testicular fortitude it took on his part to not only write this song but, make it the first song on the album. That was a big middle finger to the rest of the nashville record producers. He was sending a message! Man was it good one!

      What is the way Hank Sr did it though what is he referring to

    • @taylorshults6276
      @taylorshults6276 2 года назад +6

      @@leahflower9924 he is pretty much just saying n telling ppl that hank Sr done it all different kinds of ways hank Sr done it his way just like waylon did it his own way however he wanted to

    • @waylonvids
      @waylonvids  Год назад +21

      @@leahflower9924 He was just saying that the "rules" of being a country star of which Hank Sr. didn't FOLLOW but was the artist on which they were based were not going to be the way he did it. Just listen to the lyrics...now I'm writing this by memory and hopefully I don't get the verses out of order, but if so I think it will be obvious what verse I'm talking about
      Verse 1: He describes how the country music business had been the same way for years from how the records were produced to even how the stars dressed in "Nudie" suits, drove Cadillacs and generally played their part. He didn't have any interest in being like those who came before but instead just wanted to be himself. However, he knew that in order for that to happen, he believed that things would NEED to change.
      Verse 2:. He described what those in the country music business had been saying to him since he arrived in Nashville . He sums it up that he didn't have trouble finding those who believed he would be a star but it seemed that almost all were only on board if he played by the rules which had governed Music Row for decades.
      Verse 3: He described what he had been dealing with for the past ten years and how it was not easy to be playing one night stands every night watching his youth "speed" by which he meant both figuratively and literally. In other words it is very easy to not really accomplish your personal goals when you are being burnt out with what he essentially felt was "busy work". In his autobiography he described how booking agents didn't have targeted plans for what an artist's touring should be accomplishing. They didn't even think about common sense routing plans. He felt like they picked the dates they set out for him were picked by throwing darts at a US map while blindfolded. The money was just enough to keep them working all the time spending the majority on overhead. I can't prove this necessarily but I do believe the "speeding" line also alluded to how there was only one way to tour that way and it was with chemicals. This was the reason Hank died at 29 years old and I'm positive that Waylon who was in his mid to late 30s also knew this which only solidified his belief that it had to change.
      Verse 4:. He further describes what life on the road has been like and how he even sings Hank's songs sometimes (as he was a huge fan) but he knew that he performed them his own way.
      The song was meant to be holding a mirror up to Music Row for them to realize that although they may think he was a simple minded hillbilly who should just shut up and do what he was told, that he was far more intelligent than that. He not only understood their games but knew that he would have to change the rules to their rigged games to finally win.
      ...and he did.

    Lord it's the same old tune, fiddle and guitar
    Where do we take it from here?
    Rhinestone suits and new shiny cars
    It's been the same way for years
    We need to change
    Somebody told me when I came to Nashville
    Son you finally got it made
    Old Hank made it here, we're all sure that you will
    But I don't think Hank done it this way, no
    I don't think Hank done it this way, okay
    Ten years on the road, making one night stand
    Speeding my young life away
    Tell me one more time just so I'll understand
    Are you sure Hank done it this way?
    Did old Hank really do it this way?
    Lord I've seen the world with a five piece band
    Looking at the back side of me
    Singing my songs, one of his now and then
    But I don't think Hank done 'em this way, no
    I don't think Hank done 'em this way, take it home

    I never get tired of listening to Waylon, or watching his performances. Wish i could have seen him live but i was just a kid when he did most of his touring. I'm thankful for the videos of his concerts on youtube. Thanks for posting.

      Everyone had problems either one time or another in the good ol days too... But we knew how to handle it and what would be the best for family... We didn't fall to pieces like they do these days... Family is what country is about really.. And waylon is the definition of true country... True in everything he did.. Was.. AND will always be

    For my well actually personal and the love for my country and those who have fought and protected our landmarks and landscape, i believe that we are suppose to alway LOVE AND HONOR AND RESPECT and if we fall short pray for soneone who will be willing to give you an olive branch to help yourself up and do not hurt or harm anyone to get to safety by yourself. We should always want to show and act as if HUMBLE MEANS MILLIONS
