Haven't watched yet, but Owen/Bret at WM10 is the best opening match in mania history. The match itself was fantastic, and it played perfectly into the storyline of the whole show, which ended with Bret winning the title at the end as Owen watched on in jealousy from the ramp, kayfabe knowing that he was the better man and setting up their great feud blowoff perfectly.
Prince Meng mania 34 had the most disappointing and pointless icon vs icon match of all time with John Cena vs Undertaker, and a child won the tag team titles... it’s an okay Mania at best
@@ethantakesny0412 I fucking hated it. I was expecting a lot and everything turned out to be a joke. Hey @CultaholicWrestling I just thought of something when it came to Y2J vs Regal at Mania X-Seven where Adam said "It was 2001, everyone was over". I wanted to also point out that X-Seven may have been the Grand Finale for the Attitude Era, but it was in a way a graduation/farewell to old and welcoming the new beginning for WWE. At the time with each match on the card, (minus a choice few) had a story that was entertaining going into their grand showdown. Regal vs Y2J in a way felt to me like it was Jericho's graduation from being a solid upper wildcard talent to World Champion later on in the year and by the end of the year 1st ever Undisputed Champion. Gotta love Wrestling History and hard work paying off. Now That's What's Goodie! 😁✌
Just because it had good long term effects and the match at the next ppv was great, doesn't mean it doesn't deserve bottom of the list. When I saw the match at extreme rules, I immediately thought "Why wasn't this the match at wrestlemania?!"
I don't care about giving a classic match which no one is gonna remember years from now. If it weren't for these type of matches and character work. Daniel Bryan would just be another vanilla indie midget that no one gives a crap about.
Giving the company WAY too much credit to call that long term booking. WWE had no interest in doing anything of note with Bryan, and the fan reaction after that WrestleMania going forward is certainly not part of some subtly McMahon genius.
If fans weren't threatening to boycott Wrestlemania 30, Bryan would never have been inserted into the main event. Vince wanted Orton vs. Batista. The "Yes Movement" wasn't just kayfabe.
Also another fun fact! Wrestlemania 35 was not just the night all 3 major title changes went through as planned but all was members of WWE 3 biggest factions of the modern era,The Shield (Rollins), The New Day (Kingston) and The 4 Horsewomen (Lynch)
WM31 was my first WM I've ever seen live on PPV, I was away from the product since 2001 and that opening match hit all the right notes. One of, if not the best ladder match I've ever seen. I wondered how the rest of the card that night would top that since they started so strong but they proved me wrong. Solid Wrestlemania.
Think the best thing about Bret vs Owen was the finish, no one expected the King of Harts to win it. It was just a pure masterclass that is sadly missing this day and age
I went to WrestleMania 28 and I was so excited to finally see Daniel Bryan perform and was yelling Yes chants at the top of my lungs in my section, to get everyone else hype, little did I know.
Man what a great video. I wish you would do a video on Steve Blackman. He is one of the few come and go wrestlers I really liked. Unfortunately he disappeared as fast as he appeared lol
Owen vs Bret was also perfect for setting up their future storyline and bouts, just look at the main event of Summerslam 94, you can already see the build up culminating from their wrestlemania match
Yeah, I'm not sure he was even watching at the time. Winners of the Royal Rumble earned a title shot, but both challengers were known to have a non-title match at WrestleMania X (which was repeated incessantly throughout the event's hype). Since Lex won the cointoss, Bret had to face Owen. If Bret had won the cointoss, then Luger would have faced Crush. With Crush and Savage already at odds, the cointoss was as predictable today as it was back then.
Random thought, but I feel this is an unwritten rule of wrestling. If you wrestle two nights in a row (to showcase endurance) you lose your first match before usually winning a big one. Bret put over Owen before winning the world title, Becky put over Asuka before winning the Rumble, Jericho lost to HBK before winning that scramble match, Rollins lost to Orton before having the hiest if the century, exceptions would be tournaments though
Lex won the coin toss to compete first, but the Bret vs Owen match was made, so Bret was guaranteed the main event, and because Lex vs Yokozuna was happening first, we were guaranteed to have both competitors in the main event having two matches to make it fair. That’s actually how I felt Wrestlemania 35 should have gone with the women. Becky Lynch vs Nia Jax (they had beef for months), then Ronda vs Charlotte in a Winner Take All title match, and then Becky faces the winner of that for both belts. I feel it would have been better than a so-so triple threat match and would have squashed several feuds.
