2:24 I can answer that! Besides being a game for people without powerful machines, it was a game made for kids who were already Mega Man and Mega Man X fans. Let's consider that "younger players" were 10 like me, unlike NES-era fans who were older teenagers and super young adults. So, it's not impossible to beat this game being a 10 years old kid, even if it was a brutal task. Same here. I was getting into emulators at the time, found out about this game, was surprised how good it looked and tried it out. Kind of fun and frustrating since it was the hardest classic Mega Man game yet.

I played through this one time on GBA a couple of years ago. As a Mega Man veteran, this game was one of the most infuriating experiences I can remember.
The GBA port is inferior, it's actually much harder to play than the SNES version. More zoomed in, the music is trash, etc. I beat it on SNES, couldn't get past the tutorial on GBA.

@@JoshuaJacobs83 I just heard that joke and I just stopped the video. You didn't follow the '91 twins either :P (kidding. who did outside of Minnesota...oh yeah, people of Georgia won't forget that World Series either...or Kent Hrbek :) ).
I actually played this before Megaman 8 and before X as well, so it has a special place in my heart, and I absolutely love the music. While you might say it isn't as fun, it sure is more mellow and memorable for me (especially the intro stage in the museum).
I love the mellow music too. Intro Stage, Ground Man, Tengu Man, and Pirate Man are my favorites. We all can use some mellow tunes to drown out the difficulty :P
I kind of think it's a shame that Drunk didn't talk a little more about the soundtrack. It is really really GOOD! It is definitely different than previous mega man games for sure. But it's such an interesting take to have cool jazz as the music this time around instead of the usual rock.
Don't forget that there's a translation patch for the SNES version! They changed a LOT of stuff (such as its title to Megaman and Bass as it was intended on the American version) and it's like 99,99% perfect...
@@SmellinDSyrup He played the GBA version, which is the version most people out of Japan refer to. I guess that's why he remembers it as a very difficult game.
No joke, I actually saw Rockman and Forte on SNES being played by my uncle when I was little but not on a original SFC cart but a pirate Green NTSC-U cartridge. I wish I had a photo of that cart from a auction of SNES titles a few years ago to show that this game had a pirated version...
@@KGRAMR Yeah, I'm pretty sure that any popular-ish Japanese-only games always gets bootlegged and then distributed around the world. Maybe he was indeed playing a bootleg SNES cartridge of this game, but it's much more likely that he played the GBA version instead rather than some random bootleg.
Apparently the English translation patch for the SNES version of this game came out months before the official localized GBA port, and this game got a sequel on the WonderSwan as well, which also got an English translation patch recently. I remember playing the GBA version (and I remember seeing the ad for the GBA version on EGM's March 2003 issue) but I liked the SNES version a lot.
There is. it's called Rockman & Forte: Mirai Kara no Chousensha (Mega Man & Bass: Challenger from the Future) and was released in 1999 and has new Robot Masters.
Mega man does not have many skills over Bass, but Bass lacks charge shot and that makes a huge difference in the endgame. I never managed to beat this game with Bass.
You're right. When I played this game, the only time I ever felt like Bass was at a disadvantage is at the end when I couldn't charge up my alternate weapons for extra damage but that was waaay at the end. The rest of the game is cleanly ruled by Bass.
@@Archedgar yeah, dash and double jump helps a lot in the robot master stages. Playing with bass is almost like Zero with a machine gun instead of a saber
The only advantage MM has over Bass is a lot more damage, the very first boss is a good proof of that, Bass takes quite a while to make it open up so you can hit the core, MM rips through it like it's a wet paper bag.
@@moonrazk Yeah but that damage isn't really that important until you are in the last stages. The final boss is proof of that. With Bass, I hid safely underneath while exhausting a lot of my alternate weapons to do damage but even then I only just barely won. Mega Man could have charged those weapons up or even used the regular shot to do it much quicker. The entire game is balanced around Bass except that portion.
I played this emulated back when I was in high school, I remember really liking how the game looks. One thing I liked about Bass is that according the the lore, he's a prototype to Zero, that's why he plays similar to him with the dashing.
I've still never beaten this game, is really is brutal. For those enemies that just appear btw, they're coming out of the background, but just have a small ripple animation as they pop out
This is a very good review! I feel like it's tough to say which game is better: this game, or Mega Man 8. There are some very good things about this game, but it is indeed very, very difficult. It felt as if the levels were designed with Bass/Forte in mind, and with Mega Man as an afterthought. The graphics are very good for a Super NES game, especially considering that the sprites were taken from a 32-bit game. I am very, very disappointed that this game was never included in any of the Mega Man collections that were released by Capcom. I believe that the game is canon, because the ending of this game is referenced in Mega Man 9.
Short answer: Yes. Long answer: YessssSSSSNESSSSdrunk. Found out about Mega Man & Bass through emulation packs and it had a fan patch translation. Wish they included it in the Legacy collection.
That was a great breakdown. Mega Man 8, which this looks pretty similar to, was similarly balls-out hard. I'd love to see your review of the PSX + Saturn versions of that, since Mega Man in this period really does just kind of straddle both the 16 & 32-bit generations (the big complaint of the 32-bit versions of X3 was them being indistinguishable from the SNES).
I always felt this was definitely INTENDED for older, more skilled gamers who were still clinging to their precious SNES's into the late 90s, alongside other brutally difficult late-stage SNES games like Megaman X3 and Fire Emblem Thracia 776. I think Inafune was either on something or trying to say that to get moms to buy it for their kids anyway, I dunno. But I've always personally found that stuff really cool and exciting to explore "any way I could" as an American obsessed with the SNES and finding so many badass, hard as hell late-end SNES games we never got here and talking about them online. I actually LOVED MM&B forever since I played it in such a way when it was fairly newish way back when and it was like a legendary thing online. Yeah, it's total bullshit in a lot of ways but, like you said, if you accept it as a tough as nails Mega Man product as someone with a lot of experience in the series it's still plenty enjoyable. But even then, yeah, screw that 2nd King stage with 4 of the HARDEST and most INSANE Mega Man bosses EVER all in a row in 1 stage lmao. That part went too far.
I remember playing this game in 2002 on ZSNES and being completely baffled on why and how this existed. I think the graphics are amazing for Super Famicom and as an avid Megaman fan I wanted to love it. Maybe I'm in denial, but I still do, but Megaman X2 will always be my favorite.
I played this on the GBC and beat the game with both MegaMan and Bass when when I heard that the SNES version exist I look it up find the English Fan Translation rom and finish up all the CDs
SNES version: Yes, and it should've been a part of the second Mega Man Legacy Collection. GBA version: Absolutely not. The screen compression makes what was already a genuinely difficult game a cheap one now.
Don't ask me why but this one was one of my first Mega Man games (or should I say Rockman, since it was the SNES version) and I loved it, to this day it gives me tons of nostalgia The CD collecting aspect of the game is definitely my favorite, shame something like that was never brought back to other Mega Man games
The CD collecting was fun until some are at the end of levels and drop almost as soon as you enter the screen. I agree it was a fun feature but not when you had to replay a level over and over to maaaaybe get that last CD.
Finally! Now I know for a fact I wasn't crazy when I thought this one was so tougher than usual. Controlling Bass is really fun but the level design is ruthless. I guess it is worth to say that Bass regular shot is weaker than Mega Man standard buster, but he is still the obvious pick because of the free aim and double jump and stuff. Regardless, I guess this works well as a Mega Man fix for fans of the series, although there are so many other installments for NES and SNES which I would play beforehand.
This was one of those games I played "any way I could" back in the late 90's. I was big in to Mega Man games and there was a bunch of stuff that never made it out of Japan. I was curious about this game, seemingly on par with a Playstation game but for SNES. The only problem of course was the game was in Japanese so I couldn't read what the items in the shop did. Everything was trial and error. I don't even know if I made it to the King stages. Playing as Forte/Bass was pretty awesome though.
3:14 "You've got enemies that just appear, did they skip some animation frames?" It's pretty clear that they're coming from that "screen", and there's a small animation showing that each time they do... Other than that I agree with your review, it not being a great Megaman game but a decent game in general is pretty accurate to me, haha
Damn Bass' japanese name is Forte? I swear i learn something everyday in this channel! (Although Inafune didn't create Megaman, he was the director of the franchise...he created Zero though. A guy called Akira Kitamura created the character Rockman)
This game has a special place in my history: When young, I had it together with 7 and I really enjoyed them; but as I grew older, I found most reviews considered them "not very good games in the Megaman's library". Curious that. I guess is true even the most _"atrocious"_ games can be enjoyed by someone somewhere. Keep it up, SNESDrunk 👊😎
Hero Megaman as Astroboy Antihero Bass as *Atlas *Atlas is from Astroboy 2003 series, but Atlas is not a complete villain when you look at all episodes of appearances of Atlas.
This game is far from difficult, especially when compared to the entire series. I think it does in fact fit the billing as a game for younger fans as it’s not unfair or overly difficult. The game is made in the same formula, with a little Megaman X thrown in with Bass. This game is great on SF or GBA. I first played through it when it came out on the GBA, still have my copy. I was MUCH younger back then…that’s how time works. 😅 I’m not sure what game you played.
I remember being super excited to play this when I saw the Spectacular graphics and animations... It's trully the very best the Snes could do(without Special chips) but the I kept dying And dying, and dying... I think the Inafune quote was mistranslated: he said they this for the kids that still didn't own A Playstation or a Sega Saturn , but not particulary to younger fans- back then they always said that their players were kids- and what I assume they really meant was that SuperFamicom was really popular and plenty of people still enjoyed it and not everyone could yet afford a next gen console, but still played his trusty Snes just fine (hell this channel is one of the testament of the fimeless conditions of the console).
1:00 sounds like Shadow the hedgehog derived from Bass, always liked the music from this game. Intro and Dynamo man are my favorite. Had no idea game boy did stupid sonic advance level of zoom. 5:40 9 was fricken tougher than this lol, 11 too. I liked 10 though. 6:38 lol megaman x3 had empty levels and no special move (hadoken/shoryuken) with bad zero (lame saber after 2 charged shots compared to x4). Saturn version had cutscenes and not a part of x collection sadly.
Pretty solid game. I'm playing this now. I think i'm just an old school guy and pick only Megaman to play with. But yeah, i'm with you. This game is brutal hard!😬
Dynamo Man might be the hardest Mega Man level boss. That guy is BRUTAL. For the record, I really like this game, but I agree its not up there with the top tier Mega Man games.
If you played all the other Megaman games and you are having trouble getting through this Megaman dry spell we've been going through for years...yeah it's totally worth it
While it's not THE best Mega Man game, it's still one of my favorites. Sad we never got a "proper" SNES english release. The GBA version was very disappointing due to the hardware limitations.
Yo that big ass green guy at 1:08 and 5:20 is really awesome graphics... I know its basically an updated, clear, diff colored version of the dude from the 1st game, but still, I think it looks dope
Thank you (once again) for such a fine video, SNES drunk. I am a huge Mega Man fan since my childhood and never played "Rockman & Forte". I still remember how the Mega Man games for Game Boy, NES and SNES were just too difficult for me as a child. Additionally I did not understand a word (years later I learned English at school). So what did I do? I tried and died, tried and died (and sometimes cried, haha). Over and over again. But especially the gameplay and the soundtrack always kept me going, kept me motivated. And I guess this might be the case for "Rockman & Forte" too: You just love Mega Man games and this is why you deal with it. Even if it is going to be tough as hell... But most of the time an at least fine Mega Man adventure as well :)
This game is the best. People just get so butt hurt that the game is harder than the others. It's so doable it's just not as easy as like megaman 3 to 8 and people get so angry when they die to something that you would need to spend a few lives to learn stuff in this game. This is one of the best of the series. if you want bad stage design in the megaman universe, look no further... X3! Did NOT need those boss room doors to divide each maverick stage up into 3 parts each. It's so funny to watch new players play this game for the first time but have prior megaman experience and all they do is megabuster everything and scream and cry when they hit a wall. I feel like again... 4th megaman onwards you were not really reliant anymore on changing weapons to progress, then this game comes around. And I love that some of the robot masters are no pushovers for first timers even IF you have the weakness weapon to the boss. One of the first games I ever downloaded to a snes emulator back in like 2000 and still love it to this day.
My preferred way to play RM&F is with the Character Swap & English hacks added, along with a reduced damage cheat. With those on, it becomes one of my favorite games in my favorite series.
For me personally Mega Man and Bass (SFC Ver.) Is my 3rd favorite classic Mega Man game. The overall look of the game is fantastic as it uses the same sprites from Mega Man 8, the levels desing is alrighty, the soundtrack is phenomenal, and its fun, difficult but fun.
Kind of, yeah. People give Mighty Number 9 a lot of crap for bs instadeath traps but their rose tinted glasses blind them to the fact that Megaman has been doing this for pretty much forever. Don't get me wrong, MN9 deserves a lot of crap and then some more, and instadeath traps do deserve crap, but that crap being thrown from a Megaman fan is lacking a funny amount of self awareness
Damn, the visuals are amazing on this to me (then again, I havent gotten around to late stage snes games, or medium). Also, lol scumbag gambit reference! Finally, one I understand! Also, this game was also released (or sequel?) on wonderswan. You might enjoy it (yes, anyway you can, its not cheap, tho you miss out on its interesting button layout). Thanks for shedding more light on this one! I'm trash at MM games. But I do give them all a try.
Man i love your channel, every time i findout a new game to play! Why don’t you do some compilation episodes? I would love to see something longer than 7/8 min 😇🙏
I've done a ton of compilation episodes, in fact I just did one on Sega CD ruclips.net/video/5qB6hEkxDg8/видео.html I did an entire series of videos going over a bunch of Super Famicom RPGs ruclips.net/video/u8Fgv3XbZfw/видео.html In some cases, I've expanded on those videos a bit for individual games, like SMT ruclips.net/video/l9BYoNmQ9zE/видео.html
I remember being super stoked to get this on GBA as a kid when it came out. And then I was immediately so bummed that I wasn't good enough to beat any of the stages haha.
this review is very accurate, i did like the shop and collecting all the cds, some of them are tricky to get.. its a pretty good game, but yeah, megaman x is better.
I thought it was because of the level design, enemy placement and difficult to memorize boss attack patterns. Which all make it one of the hardest Mega Man games ever.
R&F is classic Mega Man hard, but it isn’t ridiculously hard by any stretch. Like the NES games, you have to learn the level layout back to front, and because of the ability to grind for E-tanks and lives, not to mention all the special abilities you get, it’s actually easier than any of the NES Mega Man games, though that makes it a bit grindy, of course. I honestly don’t agree with... like anything you said. I think it has the best level design of any SNES Mega Man game, and the shop and collectibles make it extremely replayable. It’s legitimately one of only four Mega Man games I’ve ever beaten (the others being 1, 2, and X), so... yeah, I don’t see this as being over the top hard compared to other Mega Man games in any way. Sure, there’s a ton of insta-deaths, but it’s easier to get extra lives in this than any other Mega Man game, dying doesn’t set you back very far, and there’s infinite continues, so... again, I don’t feel like that makes it over the top difficult. It’s also basically the prettiest SNES game ever.
Easier to get extra lives than in ANY other Mega Man game? No. Play 2 or 3 for like 15 minutes and you'll rack up like 3 or 4 extra lives no problem. C'mon
@@SNESdrunk If you sit in place in one of the spots in this game that infinitely spawns enemies, you can amass bolts really fast, not to mention you’ll probably end up grabbing a life or two as random drops. Get out of the level, spend your bolts on whatever, rinse and repeat. It’s been a long time since I’ve done this, but I feel like it took me something like five minutes per run on this. This is especially easy with Forte since he can shoot in multiple directions without moving. It’s worth noting that this is also a good way to restore your health, since a lot of enemy patterns in this game tend to be easier to deal with than in the NES games, making it fairly safe to farm health pick ups. That spot where the enemies spawn “out of nowhere” (I think they’re supposed to be dropping out from behind that screen where you see the scrolling enemy silhouettes) is a good place for it, as are the sections in the first level that have infinitely spawning drills. There are others, though I don’t remember which stages they’re in offhand. Like I said, it’s a bit grindy for an action platformer, but it’s actually really simple to pick up extra lives.
@@swarth8632 That was the part that had me most interested in maybe trying it. So fun to shoot in all directions with Metal Blades and I can’t think of any other MM off the top of my head that lets you do that.
@@scottdorsch5149 Yes, those Metal Blades are still my favorite MM weapon! I've completed it with both characters. It's not as fun playing as Mega Man, but definitely worth it just to play as Bass!
I could have swore you made this video before, but either way awesome. This game was super hard, especially playing as Mega Man lol Bass is way better. Also the Greg Gagne comment 😂
This is one of my favorites, together with 8 and 4, but I probably had played more of This game than any other classic megaman. The thing here as a Megaman fan is that for a long time I could find it hard or pleasure anymore in any Megaman, I played all of it, multiple times at my NES, and Snes came out Megaman 7, the game sprites was fresh, I was excited, but the game was kind of slow, easy, wily had a hard fight and that's it, I would prefer the NES series, was a let down for me. At that time Megaman was just an expected formula of platforming, find the right bosses and that's it, the platforming was not challenging me anymore at the time. Megaman 8 released, was fresh, with new sprites, animations, awesome music, but again it was too easy to come back at any time later, I hardly played again, despite I loved the skateboarding (I know people hate it, but I have a lot of fun on faster thinking stages), and the sprites are so beautiful, the snow stage is so beautiful, the music is so atmospheric, there is a lot of quality here that's why I can't ignore him, would love if capcom did 9 and 10 with this kind of quality. Then came Rockman & Forte, I played on an emulator for Dreamcast, and was like having fun again, still these days despite I know everything inside of my head, this game still challenges me, I die less now or maybe didn't die at all, but keeps my heart beating fast, especially at final stages, giving always the joy of discovering again that Megaman I remembered at the 90's, yes I played then at early '90s, the NES was still a thing and the game was easier to find. Time passes I have to choose a Megaman to play on, I always choose either 4 or Forte, don't ask why I like 4 so much I just find charismatic, the toad man, pharaoh man, that giant snail mid-boss amuse me too much.
This might earn me a "well acksually" mocking on your podcast, but I remember when I found this game as a kid on some sketchy emulation website and absolutely loved it and finished it on both bots without that much issue (on keyboard, even-wtf was I thinking?), although it was clearly a game meant to be played as Bass, the Megaman path is a lot harder. When you're a kid though, you have nothing but time and youth reflexes lol. It might be harder if I tried it now. My parents would never buy me games, so by the time I had my own money, the SNES's time was over, so I turned to emulation where I found this. My friend who did own all the north american consoles and many of the best games for them totally didn't believe me that this game existed, where you actually got to play as Bass. Back then it seemed like any time you got to control someone that wasn't the main protagonist was a special treat. Anyway I'm sorry (and a little surprised) it wasn't your cup. I have nothing but good memories of this game myself.
If you ask me MM&B's a game that gets better each playthrough, up to the point I'd call it a near perfect game despite some of it's design choices. It's also become my favorite entry and 3rd favorite SNES game. I'd rank the classic series as this now. Bass > 6 > 4 > 11 > 5 > 8 > 7 > 9 > 3 > 2 >> 1 >>> 10
Yeah I realize that, I thought that would be obvious from the footage, hence why I said, "Is this missing a few frames of animation?" because they should "tear" from that background, yet they just... show up
i love this game, and I have great memories of playing it side by side with a friend, also it was one of the first japanese games I played while studying japanese, and was pretty cool being able to read the katakana in the store
This is one of the Classic Mega Man I like a bit more, mostly for how amazingly smooth Bass' movement is. Being able to double jump put of a dash opens all sorts of possibilities. I used to really have trouble with this one until I learned of the shield item and the item that doubles your attack power when at low health. Definitely a game worth playing if you are willing to die a lot to learn.
When I was a kid. I find this game too hard. After replaying this now. I find it okay. The game can be easy especially if you know what you should be buying in the store.
I was pumped for the game Maverick Hunter X, I think thats what its called. It was a game in development back around 2012ish that was a 1st person Mega Man but its was way more Metroid Prime than COD/Battlefield/etc. It looked fantastic from the little that was shown. Id be happy with a Mega Man game mixed with 2-D Metroid where everything was one giant world connected instead of levels and you would use the robot masters weapons to proceed to certain areas. they could have other abilities to find, like from MMX with air dash armor and stuff like that.
I think I'm the weird guy in the room. hahaha That's my favorite Megaman game (plain Megaman, I mean. I'm not counting X or any of the others). But your point makes total sense. I never realized that until you point it out 'cuz I don't know anyone else who plays Megaman. It is a kinda different game and that's why I love it so much.
This is fascinating. When they made those new 8-bit Megaman games, people kept saying the difficulty was “retro” and it always drove me nuts because Megaman was NEVER that hard. And it was because, just as you say, the games are chock full of instant deaths that the original games never had. The instant deaths plus the store concept makes me see that this game was apparently an inspiration.
My favorite in the series after Megaman 11. Also I prefer to play as Megaman. I like the chalenge here. And the characters are well balanced. I used to compete with my neighbor who would finish the game firt, we discover that Forte is faster to play in the leves, but slow to beat the bosses. Megaman is slow during the levels, but powerful to beat the bosses faster. And I always won. You need practice to play correctly.

But by the late '90s with the PS1/N64 era they had softened considerably
Kids have faster reflexes and timing so they had to be harder. That's why its so hard to play retro games as an adult.

This game's underrated imo
I played it on the gba. Amazing game. But damn its so difficult! The item shop really was a great help
No, it is not. As a Mega Man game, you're better off playing any other one, even the Game Boy ones, hell, even 11 on the Switch.
@@symphoniker666 in his opinion it is. In mine too. Its a good game and overlooked by many.
It's better than megaman soccer

Dyanamoman? Dyan-Cannon-amoman?
It’s funny how upsetting it is when a boss heals even though in a lot of games you can heal yourself whenever you want.
Guess we're selfish. But they also have minions and a whole level backing them up.

I actually played this before Megaman 8 and before X as well, so it has a special place in my heart, and I absolutely love the music. While you might say it isn't as fun, it sure is more mellow and memorable for me (especially the intro stage in the museum).
Interesting 😌
I love the mellow music too. Intro Stage, Ground Man, Tengu Man, and Pirate Man are my favorites. We all can use some mellow tunes to drown out the difficulty :P
Every track in this game is a banger!
I’ve always wanted to play this one, despite how difficult it may be. The music is really nice in this one.
It’s not difficult.
@@ArchGeek It obviously was for anyone playing the game for the first time compared to other megaman games
It's worth a shot.
@@ArchGeekAccording to most folks it is.
I kind of think it's a shame that Drunk didn't talk a little more about the soundtrack. It is really really GOOD! It is definitely different than previous mega man games for sure. But it's such an interesting take to have cool jazz as the music this time around instead of the usual rock.
I live day to day for those Greg Gagne references.

Don't forget that there's a translation patch for the SNES version!
They changed a LOT of stuff (such as its title to Megaman and Bass as it was intended on the American version) and it's like 99,99% perfect...
This game has the best music in the Megaman series, which is really saying something! Never played the game, but I love the soundtrack!
You accidentally put this game instead of MegaMan 2......honest mistake 🤣
@@ZebraEnt lol I know what I said, I'll call it a tie. MM2 is my favorite old-school soundtrack, along with Castlevania 2. ;)
It is really challenging, I remember throwing a fit at the last of King's stages back when I was 8 hahaha. But I love it
@@SmellinDSyrup He played the GBA version, which is the version most people out of Japan refer to.
Ironically, the patch is more accurate than the garbage GBA localization.
There's a Wonderswan sequel?
There is. it's called Rockman & Forte: Mirai Kara no Chousensha (Mega Man & Bass: Challenger from the Future) and was released in 1999 and has new Robot Masters.
@@Archedgar It makes all bosses die a lot faster and makes knowing/finding the "correct" boss path a lot less important.
I played this emulated back when I was in high school, I remember really liking how the game looks. One thing I liked about Bass is that according the the lore, he's a prototype to Zero, that's why he plays similar to him with the dashing.
I've still never beaten this game, is really is brutal. For those enemies that just appear btw, they're coming out of the background, but just have a small ripple animation as they pop out
This is the only MegaMan game I have not beaten.
As a Mega Man fan, this is spot on
@@rorz999 It's difficult to get into, but once you get past the first stages the game really picks up. I still think it is better than Mega Man 8.
Love this game but it's SOOOO damn hard, as a kid it made me feel like yamcha...
um dos jogos mais bonitos do console e não usa nenhum chip especial, vale a pena jogar até hoje com toda certeza
Concordo imensamente, o fator nostalgia faz com que a dificuldade seja apenas um detalhe ínfimo hahaha
They should have
Such a spot on excellent review - most reviews tend to just over or under praise - this is a much more accurate appraisal of what’s on offer here.
Got it for $20 last November and I'm not letting it go.
this is the only classic megaman games i've never beat, it was way too frustrating and i suck at videogames
@@OriginalMasters I was just about to say that, mega man 1 was the most frustrating to beat for me.
the final stages are a real pain but really satisfactory to complete
*GBA, not on GBC. The fan translation is very good, indeed.
I missed typed by mistake
Those enemies that 'just appear' come out of the background shadows. They never skipped animation sequences.
SNES version: Yes, and it should've been a part of the second Mega Man Legacy Collection.
GBA version: Absolutely not. The screen compression makes what was already a genuinely difficult game a cheap one now.
The enemies that "just appear" are coming out of the wall
Dude... i laugh so hard when he said that, he didnt know whats going on the game.
Don't ask me why but this one was one of my first Mega Man games (or should I say Rockman, since it was the SNES version) and I loved it, to this day it gives me tons of nostalgia
The CD collecting aspect of the game is definitely my favorite, shame something like that was never brought back to other Mega Man games
I also grew up and did not know that so many people disliked it, i almost managed to complete the CD database because i fucking loved this game

Spot on review! I definitely have some history with this one and you really captured the highs and lows here
This game is far from difficult, especially when compared to the entire series.
I’m not sure what game you played.
Really? This is one of my favourites. The level design is clever and fun. The only downside is difficulty but is a damn good game
Greg Gagne was my favorite Twin during his time with the team. 2-time World Series champion! 🙂
Solid bottom of the order hitter, but he always fell for those low and away sliders
This is my favorite mega man game in classic series. I have the English translation on my SNES classic.
Dynamo Man might be the hardest Mega Man level boss. That guy is BRUTAL. For the record, I really like this game, but I agree its not up there with the top tier Mega Man games.
If you played all the other Megaman games and you are having trouble getting through this Megaman dry spell we've been going through for years...yeah it's totally worth it
i would like to add that if you can, support 30XX the sequel to 20XX!
I was expecting this game to be part of the "Megaman Legacy Collection" :S I've played when I was a kid and I loved to play as Bass.
It'll probably be thrown into the next SNES Online Service update.
@@maverickhuntermeta4954 .... theres an idea

You don’t get enough credit for these reviews. They’re well spoken, thought of in context, and tough but fair. Well done.
I can't remember how I was playing this in the 2000s as a teenager but good grief did I just get PTSD from these levels.
You forgot to mention the hidden level, featuring a secret boss fight with Greg Gagne-man.
The trick to beating him is throwing nothing but sliders that break low and away
Really? I always felt that Megaman games were about dying a million times while memorising where the enemies and traps are...
But this game really cracks it up a notch
@@NecroIustit’s bs, but I love it.

@@ChiefMedicPururu yeah, tell me about it...haha.
I've always liked the jazzy feel of Coldman's theme.
I'm so happy you counted X2 as one of the better Mega Man games. That game is so slept on.
this review is very accurate, i did like the shop and collecting all the cds, some of them are tricky to get..
its a pretty good game, but yeah, megaman x is better.
is it me or is the difficulty mostly because the character sprites are pretty large compared to the other Megaman games? (larger hit box)
I thought it was because of the level design, enemy placement and difficult to memorize boss attack patterns. Which all make it one of the hardest Mega Man games ever.
SFC version is about as zoomed in as MM7, and that game's way easier.
C'mon
@@SNESdrunk
If you sit in place in one of the spots in this game that infinitely spawns enemies, you can amass bolts really fast, not to mention you’ll probably end up grabbing a life or two as random drops.
Getting my SNES drunk tee delivered today so i'm gonna get SNES and drunk today when it gets here! Have a great rest of YOUR day bro!!
Not a fan of “zoomed in” mega mans personally, but this looks neat
I agree. Playing as Bass is really fun tho! Shooting upwards and at angles with Bass is pretty cool!
X3 was pretty fun though. It can be hard, especially when looking for power ups, but I liked it more than this one.
At least X3 has more sets of Ride Armors than any other MMX game (it's probably just one Ride Armor with different add-ons none the less).
I could have swore you made this video before, but either way awesome. This game was super hard, especially playing as Mega Man lol Bass is way better. Also the Greg Gagne comment 😂
at 3:14 the enemies are coming out of the wall. you can actually the silhouettes on on the wall and some of those pop out as enemies.
Nice commentary! Love you vids man!
3:14 those enemies are not appearing out of thin air. They're coming out of the cutouts from the background.
I love this game, I still play it from time to time after all these years
First played this back in the emulation days in high school. Bass was my favorite character for a while.
I boot it up occasionally just to play the first stage. I love the stage music.
I think I'm the weird guy in the room. hahaha
That's my favorite Megaman game (plain Megaman, I mean. I'm not counting X or any of the others).
But your point makes total sense. I never realized that until you point it out 'cuz I don't know anyone else who plays Megaman. It is a kinda different game and that's why I love it so much.
This game I played on the SNES when I heard about it on gamepro in the back pages. Super wicked right on . Peace and Love
great graphics and music, but the level design and boss fights make it unfairly hard
