Hello from Russia) Tommie, your tutorials are great) I have my own tip/rule. If I hit a tree twice on the single run, it mean that I’m tired and lost my concentration, and I should stop riding and take some rest in the nearest cafe. It is a rule for me, because each next impact with tree can be the last one, but because of adrenalin and fun it is very easy to miss that moment.
Boarding through trees is a great way to find snow, when it hasn’t snowed in a few days. That’s why I run the trees. A word of caution, if the tree runs are icy, get out. Snowboards and ice don’t mix.
I think going straight is also a super important part of riding trees. When it's tight and there's no way to turn sometimes you have to sack up and maintain speed to split the trees.
Dude! You get the MOST air out of almost every jump! You're ollie's are seriously next level! I just don't understand how you can get soo much air! 6:03
Two things I would add, try to find something with a pretty mellow pitch that your comfortable with and find something short to begin with that you know let’s out onto another run. It’s super easy to lose track of where you are in the trees if you aren’t familiar with the area
I recently started riding trees and its a whole different game. I ride technical single track on my dirt bike and, its the snowboard equivalent. Big fan. And getting better in the trees is making me even better out of them.
I have been snowboarding for 22 years this season. I have never taken lessons. My mom just dropped my brother and I off one day and we learned it on our own. Even though I do double black diamonds all the time I find these tutorials super helpful. For example on this video. I do trees all the time but once I get going I don't know how I'm doing it, I just do it and don't think about it much. Knowing how I'm riding through the trees makes it a lot more intentional while I'm doing it and makes it defiantly easier and safer.
I also think it’s important to know how to land in a stop. Meaning you can land with your board at 90. That move has saved me countless times. Also really fun landing at 90 in powder and getting a face shot.
Tommy, this is gold! Great tips and explanations! The shoulder tip is invaluable and I will be putting this into practice on the 5th of January in Austria! You are absolutely killing these video tutorials brother! What are the odds of you dropping the carving video before my first holiday?🤞 Much move from the UK! Peace ✌️
I was at Jay Peak last weekend which has tons of glades, and really had a tough time in the more difficult glades. Definitely something I want to master. Trusting my turns was the hardest part in the really thick tight woods.
cool edit, bumping this purely for the Knar. Shredded Breck last year with the boys from UK, epic. Could never find those kid zones though which look perfect for their progression, appreciated.
Training quick turns on steep slopes helped me getting quicker. As the guy said: Everytime you need to be quick it helps to get on your front foot with the wait..that also applies the steeper it gets. With that I also learned to stay in your fall line all the way down and ripping slopes independant from how steep it gets...you simply go more athletic and turn more often in your fallline
Because I ride so many slopes and only occasionally went backcountry, I have problems as soon as it has sof snow or deep snow, because I am so front heavy. Throughout that I learned to get a more relaxed stance and that helps....still not good in deep snow by a long stretch. I seem to not be playful enough to work this out....but I suddenly can jump better. Before I always was frontheavy and that makes jumping a nightmare, as you dont have a stable position for those applications.
Driving with the front leg is very important and if the snow is very deep you're better off with steeper pitched trees. That way, you dont have to sink your rear foot as much to get float in deep pow because the pitch of the area is driving your forward momentum and able to handle a little less float on the board if you're leaning forward to drive faster or harder turns. Also, planning several turns in advance is huge, also be able to identify places a few turns away from you where you can stop easily. If i know i'm about to bomb and gain a bunch of speed through a section, i'm much more comfortable doing it if i know that in 3 turns i can scrub a bunch of speed in a deeper section or off the top of a berm.
I kinda skipped a few steps (or kinda like all of them) and did my first ever black diamond and first ever trees at once without the prep which surprisingly went pretty well.
Such a cool video. My first season at Copper after not snowboarding for over 8 years. Excited to be back... This vid is made at Copper? Where the heck is that adventure treeish run?
What y’all are talking about is called target fixation in racing...whatever u focus on is where u end up going...looking at a tree is a good way to meet the 🌲
I see great tree riders also tend to skid the back side of their boards more when making turns in the trees. Can you talk about how to practice that outside the trees?
I used to love mulguls. I think I've gotten fat and out of shape lol but fr I think that progression and those tips are good. I used to to a lot of trees. After a few years of some health stuff I'm getting back and relearning more than I thought I would need to.
How do we slow down in trees!!! Usually on normal runs you heal or toe.. but when you’re sticking to a designated path, what can you do?? I’m great with trees till I get too much speed & im not sure how to slow down efficiently yet!
if it's a powder tree run. do you lean forward or lean backward on you back foot as many said should be done on pow condition? would it sacrifice some mobility doing so when making tight turns necessary for trees?
Question, so when doing quick turns, you talked a lot about your front foot, but what about the back foot? I know that quick turns will help a rider in general so i am trying to figure that part out? Do you just basically mirror what your front foot does or...?
i know this video is 2 years old but a good "how to" video would be "how to trust your turns" i haven't seen all your videos so it might be repetitive but it would be a good title for people trying to get into backwood i think. or just people trying to not hit trees
Happy Holidays ! Another question: I can use skid turns to go downhill on some blue slopes now. Should I practice edging or carving to get more stability before practicing the turns that you taught in this video? thank you.
Great tutorial! Thanks for the tips and things to practice. People, please practice a lot before trying tree runs that are any tougher than these. Remember, a tree took Sonny Bono from us.

That's the most Russian shit I've ever heard "if I hit two trees it's time t cLl it a day"

Solid advice Todd
apparently you have never ridden the mid-west. learn to ride ice and everything else is easy. lol

Can't wait to try this. I've been struggling in the trees with my turns. This sounds like the tips I need!
I recently started riding trees and its a whole different game. I ride technical single track on my dirt bike and, its the snowboard equivalent. Big fan. And getting better in the trees is making me even better out of them.
Nice vid and great timing as its one of my areas of focus this season. keep up the great work, bro! :)
Dude legit awesome explaining of everything. Thanks

did tried that technic today!!! works awesome when going through tight trees ! thx man
Thank you for this tutorial Tommie! I'm definitely challenging myself this season and trying out tree riding. So stoked to up my shred game!
Best how to vids on youtube man! Love your content, sick presenting, mad skills and teaching me so much!! Top man 👌
Tommie Bennett Snowboarding: The book of Nerd. 😃
Great tips Tommie.
My resort opens tomorrow and I go on Tuesday 😆😆watching all your tutorials
Same. Waiting for sandia to open, you?
Cody Closer Liberty Mountain opened today but I go on Tuesday
Good on ya m8 get out there!
After I got comfortable with gladed runs I started to ride the mt bike trails and unlocked a whole new level of fun at my local mountain.
Good video man, nice path to progression. Riding trees is one of my favorite styles of riding. 👍

I like the way you run the video at like 200% speed it make you look so awesome. eye roll
What a great teacher! Positive and informative.
I'd add that jump turns can come in handy when it is tight. Also, sometimes it helps to grab a tree and use it to rotate.
Tommie is the man!
Something that helped in thicker trees was doing longer runs across the fall line and shortening them as I went down.
Love tree runs!! Thanks for the edit man!!🙏🏼
the "Dont look at the tree" tip is very real. I ran into a tiny tree because I kept staring at it, wondering why my board wasnt turning

Great video and tips! Your POV video in the trees was great!
Amazing vids! Can we get one on how to snowboard on hella icey slopes (we get a lot of those in QC!)
Really helpful progression.
Bro great edit and awesome tips!!! I think my tree riding will definitely improve by 1006% now!!!
Arbatory percentages are my favourite.
I kinda skipped a few steps (or kinda like all of them) and did my first ever black diamond and first ever trees at once without the prep which surprisingly went pretty well.
Great tree video. I would love to see a video that really breaks down knee steering.

Do you ever ride at winter park/mary jane? They have great tree runs
So sick man. Another great video. I want to snowboard like a Boss 😎🏂
Don't we all...
Chuck Van haha 😂 👍🏂

good stuff! Thanks for doing this.
Great tree tips there 👍
Breck to Copper and back in record time!

Can I use this technique to attack steep slopes? thanks
@@tommiebennett thanks
great contents ! Merry Christmas in advance
Do some gnarlier tree runs. At Winter Park would be sick!
This helps so much!!!
HI Tommie, when is the best timing to make the turn? on the top or the bottom of the moguls?
This is what full rocker boards are for.
How do we slow down in trees!!! Usually on normal runs you heal or toe.. but when you’re sticking to a designated path, what can you do?? I’m great with trees till I get too much speed & im not sure how to slow down efficiently yet!
So flexible, looks like Wu kong!
Where was this ski resort? it looks familiar to me.
if it's a powder tree run. do you lean forward or lean backward on you back foot as many said should be done on pow condition? would it sacrifice some mobility doing so when making tight turns necessary for trees?
The only thing you missed was the battery ...We're all waiting for that tree sesh to end like a boss!
Those moguls are on a fairly mild slope. On my mountain they are on black 💎
Question, so when doing quick turns, you talked a lot about your front foot, but what about the back foot? I know that quick turns will help a rider in general so i am trying to figure that part out? Do you just basically mirror what your front foot does or...?
im curious how your toque switched halfway through
lol

where is this ski station?
Hey guys! Would you recommend a nitro squash for treeruns? Cheers :)
What bout in deep pow through the trees? I was told to keep weight on your back foot wen riding through deep pow..
Tommie Bennett
sweet!! Luv these pro riding tips keep it up
are you always leaning forward when you snowboard ?
Thx
If you lean forward in pow, you’re gonna have a bad time 😉
Where is this?
1006x easier. I’ll remember that
Why can’t we ever have conditions like this I’m always on ice😂
Holy shit I thought this guy was like 16. Was not expecting a grown ass man
Great tutorial! Thanks for the tips and things to practice.
People, please practice a lot before trying tree runs that are any tougher than these. Remember, a tree took Sonny Bono from us.
Did u say cat-width wide
give us a tree run switched
So those are skidded turns your not on edge , I’m trying to learn short turns carved
What goggles are you wearing?
Relax the back hand would make you look even more professional
sometimes its so tight you cant even turn
Anyone else think he sounds like a South Park character?
First
yo where are the trees at copper?
How to ride trees: dont ride the trees, ride the snow.
Dont ride trees a lone on pow days
1000 AND 6 percent?? shut up and take my money!
I like dabbling.
Nice video. For me just a little too much talking and too little snowboard footage to really look at how you make these turns.
Don’t Sonny Bono it.
Why do all youtubers yell? Also why do all youtubers speak at 1.5x speed? Why
They are stoked.

People die riding through trees.
People die doing lots of fun things
