I’m sure we went to a holiday park called Silversands in the early 80s. I remember a pink hippo in the swimming pool for climbing on. Can anyone tell me if the park is still there? TIA
Thanks for the memories from Florida! We holidayed every year from 1974 onwards. My parents split and my mum remarried. My stepdad owned Eastern Beach until the early 90’s when he retired but had been in his family for many years prior. I’ve visited since and have so many memories of Norfolk and Yarmouth. I can smell the chips on the seafront and hear the arcades just watching this!
Another superb vlog Tim and your opening shot is my favourite spot in the whole country, yes and I have visited many coasts including Wales, Scotland, as well as the South coast of England. My wife and I cycle to this spot and have our picnic there. It always reminds me of the final scene in the very first Planet of the Apes films when Charlton Heston rides along the beach on horseback with the girl he rescued and sees the upper arm and torch of the statue of Liberty rising up through the sand. A terrific location. A wonderful piece of work by you and thoroughly enjoyable, thank you. Just noticed you have hit 30K subscribers at last, a fantastic achievement on You Tube and very well deserved, best wishes.
Caister is a lovely village and I grew up there. I still live in great Yarmouth now. I grew up literally round the corner from the centurion pub next to the holiday camp. You could see the beach the end of my road X
I'll be visiting the holiday park again in a couple of weeks. I've seen a lot of changes in the park since I started going there back in the mid 90's. Neptunes was a great place to be in the evening.
Finally booked to come to Norfolk but not until next June. Staying at Haven with hubby and the dog. Not a bad price for a week. We're not fussed about accommodation as we don't stay in a lot. Can't wait to get to Norfolk and look up my family history.
Super walk Tim, brought back our memories from our holiday three weeks ago...BTW fresh cream apple turnovers are really nice from the ye old bakery and eaten on the sand dunes at the lifeboat station. Thanks Kim and Steve
I travel to Great Yarmouth by train and I still play spot the Caister Water Tower from the train as I did many many years ago as a child. That's when I feel my holiday starts.
I grew up in caister, its where most of my family are from and I spent most summers on Caister beach. My parents had a shop in the old station house at some point in the early 70's. In the 80's behind the lions there was a really cool arcade, it had stuff like Tempest and IRobot. Rare games at the time. Great video.

@@WalkWithMeTim Did you also know that the road leading to the Promenade; Second Avenue, was originally built by the Romans which is why it is dead straight?
Hi, think i would agree with you, my parents and me when I was about four went to Caister for our summer holiday which would have been about the time of the station closure in 1959 and after before demolition , if not mistaken my memory of the railway station is of it being close to the beach as it was then, would say the seafront has changed since then which would also explain for the pillbox being sunk in the sand, don[t think it would have been built on the beach but coastal erosion has been changing the coastline since them day's.

This took me right back, I used to play on that very Pill box as my Van was on Elm and then visit the Clubhouse on eastern, from that area you can even seen some of the Hotel foundations that were returned when the coastal erosion happened. Oddly I never clocked that was a Train station there, my Mum would regularly walk us to the Ice cream shop/Chippy that used to be in one of the converted houses so I'd see it alot, these days though thanks to injury I rarely venture further than Tan Lane/ Highstreet when visiting the house that replaced the Caravan which the very thought of has got me craving a Plunkett's sausage roll and Tasty house R8.
