  • Hi folks, welcome to man cave makings,
    I put up a story on Instagram a week or so back with how I managed to get a hold of this little vintage vice on Facebook Marketplace and how I was going to do a light restoration and if a short little RUclips video would be of interest. A resounding yes was the answer so here it is folks my stripped down and lightly restored vice.
    Using simple techniques and tools I was able to turn this rather sorry looking vice into a stunning bit of functional equipment for my workshop. I’m mainly going to use it for my welding table as a third hand so I have not gone to the ends of the world to redress the faces on the mill or anything that in-depth. I wanted to keep it with its scars from its history, plus it means if I do bash it about a bit I won’t feel to guilty!
    Materials used were pretty straightforward, an engine degreaser to take the oil off the parts after it was stripped down and then used Evaporust which is a fantastic product to remove the rust.
    I’ve used a cold applied black patina several times now call “Curator fluid” its only available in the UK unfortunately but there are plenty of similar products on eBay. I get most of my spray paints from Halfords in the UK, I’m sure you have your own preference where you live but these little auto paint chip pens are fantastic at the small details and the brush is exactly what’s needed for this job.
    I then applied my own mix of Oil finish to the vice after warming it with the heat gun, jump over to my Instagram feed where you will fine a short video of how I make it.......WARNING “viewer discretion required” 😂😂.
    Thanks so much for taking the time out to view my content and for the day to day stuff hit me up on Instagram or send me an email,
    Thanks and hope to catch you again,
    Gus.

    You got a super awesome, what looks to be, intro from a seller on Fiverr. Where is it? I thought it was freaking fantastic and I am sure if you spent $250+ to get it, you'd be using it. Just curious.

    • @ManCaveMakings
      @ManCaveMakings  3 года назад +1

      Thanks bud, you’re absolutely spot on I did get one made and I love it but haven’t done a video in a while to use it unfortunately. I’m working on a new video which will be the first one to feature it and likely be out in the coming month or so. Most of my smaller project I share on Instagram but maybe I should be doing shorts of them on here? Thanks 🙏🏻

      @@ManCaveMakings Do SOMETHING to utilize the awesome intro/outro you paid for. I thought it was amazing. I would like to get an update on my logo and intro/outro with the same seller because of the amazing things shared. Unfortunately, the animation would be nice to have, yet is $900... Shorts are a waste of time if you plan to do videos in the niche you are in. At least in my opinion. I'd stick to the 15+ minute videos that are already being uploaded.

      Hahaha love it and yes I do NEED to get my ass in gear so thanks for the healthy boot in it! 🥾😱
      Yeh I went with the pro animator so was expensive but got the results I wanted and you’re right I should be using it way more! Thanks for the opinion on the shorts as I feel unless you’re in the “entertainment” line of YT people like me just fall off the radar! Thanks 🙏🏻

      @@ManCaveMakings You've made it this far, with almost 10x more subscribers than me, so you're obviously doing something right. I definitely don't think it is a good idea to spend money on something if it isn't going to be useful, though. However, there is the saying that patience is key and not to rush into getting things that are for the immediate easing of the evil inclination, though. I am looking forward to seeing a new video with the "Pro Animator's" work included. I think it will garner some great commentary!
