Love the slow motion, it helps for the details. Thank you for continuing to make videos. Hope that you and your family have been staying safe and healthy.
50 is about perfect for the xmaxx. 80 is too thick and doesn't allow the shock to rebound fast enough. Also on bumps its too stiff and causes the front to bounce up in the air rather than absorb the bumps/impacts
I recommend thicker shock oil in the rear for slower rebound to reduce the rear from bucking when going over rough terrain and thinner oil in the front to keep the nose up when crossing rough terrain.
Hey super awesome video thank you so much for all that extra work going into your video and the drop test and suspension compression hats off to you I have an x max also and I'm debating on throwing 90 in the back and 80 up front because I like to do a lot of jumping. Anyways your video really helped
@lkwdryan Hahaha. Yeah, bro, im till rockin the same shocks i got. They straight put up with what you dish out. Albeit i'm not insanely crazy with it.. but by no means do i baby it. Rock on brotha!
Definitely a good comparison. I know it makes a huge difference in a crawler but wasn't too sure about a basher. I don't own an X-Maxx and don't really have a desire to get on to be honest, but I do have Losi's version in the form of the LST 3XLE. I put stiffer springs on it and left the shock oil stock. Pretty sure stock oil is 50w but don't quote me on that. It jumps really good and when I do a drop test I get just enough rebound to return it to ride height without springing up off the ground. I found out yesterday that the 3XLE will do a standing backflip with only the front diff oil changed to 500k. It might have been able to do the same before hand but I tend not to try backflips all that much. Only time I really do a backflip or a front flip is if I have to to keep from landing on my lid. My RC buddy does have a X-Maxx and he has I think 50w front and 60w rear in the shocks with heavier springs. He's been working on eliminating chassis slap but I'm not sure the X-Maxx shocks have the volume to make that happen. The shocks on my 3X are a lot thicker, but shorter overall. Heck, my 3X shocks are a little thicker than what is on my Super Rock Rey and my SRR is about 6 pounds heavier. I may one day get a X-Maxx, but probably won't be for a while. I've got to get a XO-1, Sonicwake, and a 5T first. Lol. Little over $2k in RCs just in those 3 RCs. After watching your video, I think you need thicker center diff fluid and selectable lockers for your crawling 😜
Of course it still bottoms out, shock oil isn’t spring weight. Thicker shock oil absorbs fast hits better but doesn’t change spring weight. I found 50 wt plus stiffer springs(1.3), gave balanced and improved performance with much less bottoming.
Good side by side comparison video.. did a heavier wt oil in my slash that I don't jump so much. But think stock is about right for my type of driving in the xmaxx. Thank you for this video. It helped me decide which way to go on the xmaxx ..
Only difference I saw was in the drop tests. The bound was pretty close, but it was obvious the rebound was much slower with the 80wt. Thanks for the video
I'm BY NO MEANS AN EXPERT but, from watching the slo-mo parts in .25 speed (Super slo-mo?) it looks to me like you need to slow down the absorption cycle and speed up the rebound. B.T.W., I'm new to your channel and want to say thank you to you for doing what you do. I appreciate it. I'm trying to decide if I want to buy an X-Maxx or convert an original H.P.I. Savage .21 I have over to brushless.
Thats smooooth. Not the frame rate though. Upped the shock oil in my mojave to 750cst and it really smoothens it out and makes it a bit more predictable
Exocaged RC 550 is stock. I turned down the preload and added some 750 and it performs so well! No rolling, suspension is more smooth and it feels more planted
Mojave Man awesome info on that. I’ve got mine ready to go for a drive along with 3 others and now it’s raining every day. LoL. I may end up missing a day on video if it doesn’t clear up soon.
Great video. Is that Olay area your personal spot. Or a public location in your area? I wish there was stuff around here (Western NY state) like that. I just got my Xmaxx and I think I'll go in the middle 50wt or so. I don't plan on jumping any higher than 5ft or so. Not 20 like I see some doing online
Any idea what springs your running? I bumped my weight from whatever was in it (got it used) to 60wt losi all around. As best as I can tell, it has 7766 (no stripe/natural) springs on the front and for certain 7866 (blue) on the rear. I'm about to bump it to dynamite 1000cst (80wt), put the blue springs on the front and black strip on the rear. Hoping it helps it take the bigger jumps a bit better (8+ feet up).
Its like the whole truck is made of rubber lol they sure are fun to bash on tho! That back left wheel looks like it needs a bearing unless its just the wheel flexing
So I just refilled all my shocks with 50wt. But I just put the rubber seals in the cap and put them on that way. Should I be worried about leakage? I'd rather not have to disassemble them all over again.
lol it amazes me how little understanding the RC community have on shock tuning, this is clearly not an upgrade, if your doing videos on shock testing get a book on shock theory and read it.
Off subject but i seen you have the monster mamba x. I recently got one with the 1250kv 1717 motor for my x-maxx. My gearing is currently m1 20/50. Should i be running different gearing or go to the m1.5? Also i seen in another video of yours where you glued that stock heat sensor wire to the castle motor. I didn't add mine to the mamba x esc and it seems to run fine. Do i have to run that sensor for any reason? I know gearing can be like asking someone what the best oil for their car is lol im just hoping to save by not having to buy a bunch of gears. Id like the 1.5's cause they seem hard to break but i have seen like 30/35 and stuff and im trying to learn the difference. I haven't seen anyone using the 1250kv. Mostly 800 and 1100.
Great timing. I’ve got a bin filled with Xmaxx parts. Should be a complete roller. I’ve been researching best shock oil and diff oil. I do need a motor recommendation for a max6
Dude in video says "80W may not be best for what you need"... Then proceeds to drive truck exactly like I would need... 3:49 AND 7:30 By the way this video overall is an amazing video.
Is it capable to have standing backflip with factory electronics/gearing too? On 4S 6700 Traxxas batteries, don’t know the gearing yet as I did not take the cover off. Thx
I think to my opinion going to a heavier weight shock oil does help make a difference in dampening the suspension from bottoming out on high heavy jumps other than that as for all the other driving samples you done in the video doesn't really make a difference. Xmaxx trucks would benefit even more that are heavier with aluminum upgrades.
80wt for a stock x-maxx is way too thick. But when you have an upgraded x-maxx, with added weight of the hobbywing max5 and the 800 or 1100KV motors and mod1.5 gears, lets say, You really want to move up to 80wt shockoil, combined with the stiffer x-maxx springs.
Been subbed for a while, great content! One question. You have a small squeak under very light throttle and when coming off throttle. My buddy's X Maxx does the exact same thing! I have no idea what it is! Do you happen to know what the hell that squeak is??
I have the max5 with the 800kv what diff gears you recommend for my xmaxx i just busted my rear gears today and i wanna upgrade to some heavy duty gears so when i punch it they dont brake on me again? Thanks
@@ExocagedRC One has to wonder what size Blendtec is required to macerate an Xmaxx. But the question is, with or without Lipo's heh heh, Evil Geoff is coming out this AM
When you set up your suspension, you have a certain amount of travel and you should set it up such that you will use all of that travel on the most extreme of jumps. I see too many people throw in heavy shock oils in the car because they don't want to bottom out, ever. And that's wrong. However, putting 80 weight oil in add stress to other components and affects how the chassis handles, and unless you're doing 30+ feet jumps, you'll find that a heavy oil like this is entirely unnecessary.
Love the slow motion, it helps for the details.
Thank you for continuing to make videos. Hope that you and your family have been staying safe and healthy.
"You'll need something to put in the small hole in back" That's what she said!
LOL!!! Brown is the new pink! 👍
Lol
I loved the slo-mo and the crawling 👍👌👍 . And it sounded like you were having a great laugh .Great vid
WOW!! Slowmo was awesome at demonstrating the difference. Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!!
When people walk In your yard the must say “Are we at Stonehenge?” 🤣
Awesome vid and Subscribed 👍🏼
🤘🏼🤘🏼
LooooOOOOoool
50 is about perfect for the xmaxx. 80 is too thick and doesn't allow the shock to rebound fast enough. Also on bumps its too stiff and causes the front to bounce up in the air rather than absorb the bumps/impacts
Confirm I have 50 in mine and it's perfect balance to take big hits but still handle on the ground
Awesome video great slow motion. My 2 cents from what I saw is telling me to try 60 wt👍
Me too
Worth it! Kool slow motion. Shows how the works. Nice! 👍
Thanks
Man those drop tests looked brutal
about 5ft up
I recommend thicker shock oil in the rear for slower rebound to reduce the rear from bucking when going over rough terrain and thinner oil in the front to keep the nose up when crossing rough terrain.
40 infront and 80 at back is what I done so back end stays down but will be able to get front up
Great video! Loved the slow motion 👌.
That monster on the Exoplex had me cracking up.. cant believe it made it!! Comp Crawling an XMaxx 😂😂😂
This was very helpful dude
Just ordered some 80wt now.
Keep up the good content
Thanks for the work you put in to show us the difference

Awesome.
Did you ever end up changing you’re oil weight? I’m still running stock 30 weight and do lots of jumping too. Thinking of going to 80..
I JUST ORDERED THE FULL PROLINE SHOCKS SETUP FOR MY XMAXX TODAY!! HAPPY NEW YEAR BROTHER!
I know…old comment, BUT, I’m so impressed with the GPM 7mm shaft piggyback-(functional!) shocks with the M2C shock pistons!!!! WOW WOW WOW.
@lkwdryan Hahaha. Yeah, bro, im till rockin the same shocks i got. They straight put up with what you dish out. Albeit i'm not insanely crazy with it.. but by no means do i baby it. Rock on brotha!
When in doubt, throttle out!!!!
Looks like it needs stiffer springs to get some of the rebound back and help even more with compression

80w is way to stiff. 50w is perfect. Or even progressive springs + 50w.
I dont think so.
It also bottoms out on 80?
@@cactuscat8009 I put it on a buggy wltoys144001 it works so perfect it’s very good when it jumps and barley hits the ground a a inch

I'm gonna try 40 weight with the 1.450 rate springs. Stick rate is 1.055. This is 3 rates stiffer than stock. There is only one set that is stiffer.
I definitely like the look of the 80wt!

Finally got one of ur trucks up that rock wall . Nice
Awesome bash xmaxx for the win
to crawl it you must lock the diffs
Looks like the springs are too soft for 80.
Love your videos man, but gotta say you turning into rc guy garage with talking a little hahaha it's all good
LoL I always chat while driving. Even when not recording LoL
Like the comparison with the shock oils. The tires sure compress. I use 50k in my Xmaxx should put slightly stiffer springs on it too.
Coolest back yard ever lol
Wow watched the slowmo portions over and over and stock oil has less bounce virtually every test.
I put 90wt in my maxx and it felt a lot better on the road and some grass runs, If not I'll drop it down to 70wt later on.
Great videos! Loving the Xmaxx videos and Maxx! After watching the drive cup video this am. I bought some from Amain. Thankyou

You may not be a expert but you clearly understand suspension alot better that the guy just chucking 80wt oil in shocks with stock springs
Love the mini jacks. Where did you get them?
Rock crawling with the max!!!🤯🤯🤯🤯
It looks like the stock oil would suit my preferences better. You made a very big change, and you can definitely see a difference.
I use to run 100 weight but it was just for bashing. Way to stiff but it would definitely stop the chassis from slapping
it looked like with the 80WT the chassis seemed a little more stable and not as aggressive then with the 30WT OIL if that makes sense.
Thats smooooth. Not the frame rate though. Upped the shock oil in my mojave to 750cst and it really smoothens it out and makes it a bit more predictable

90wt in my maxx with some rebound set in it works perfect
Hhr makes springs for the xmaxx I change mine and change to 90 weight oil for my surroundings areas
HHR? Do you mean Hot Racing?
That’s great make sure to do more
I’m still unsure, what about breakages because of harder suspension,.?
Surely it’s going to put more strain on other parts with thicker oil..!
Nice crawling with the maxx

how many ounces of oil do all 4 shocks use
Any1 that just adds super thick shock oil clearly doesn't understand how suspension works! Do not do this to your truck boys and girls
