I love the two scenes with the Jamaican lady, played by veteran stage and screen actress Lois Kelly-Miller. A household name in Jamaica throughout her decades-long career, she was born Oct. 15, 1917, and passed away April 8, 2020. Such a lovely lady! And her death scene was so poignant, brilliantly played, almost as if you could see her face _deflate_ somehow, as the life left it. I first thought there had to be special effects involved, slowing the film or morphing the shot into a still capture perhaps. But, it was simply the unquestionable talent of the lady. Brava!

She understood who Joe was at the end when they were saying goodbye. She just wasn't willing to say it out loud because she was afraid. And yes, I think she also knew that he was there for her father, which you hear at the very end when she tells the guy "I wish you could have known my father." I think she ran after them probably to hope to save her father and to try to keep joe with her.

16:47 he didn’t took her life nor her pain. He showed her a glimpse of what was coming (“soon”). That helped her, brought her some relief, and is not far from what many testimonials have said about people getting close to death.

    • @merkitten953
      @merkitten953 Год назад

He told her no many times but she begged him, so he made it so she would die soon. When he stares into her eyes he is making it so that she will die, he just makes it not right away so she can prepare & have a little more time with her loved ones. But he says 'soon' because he judt MADE IT be soon. He doesnt kill her on the spot, but he makes her death come early.

My favorite scene is when Anthony Hopkins stares death in the face at the end, before they walk over the hill. Death stares back at him, but looks away, first. So beautiful...

  • @danielhaas9612

It's one of my favorite story plots. Death got to have a taste of life and love, realized how beautiful it was and what he was taking away from peple. He didn't want to leave it behind or what he came to love, so he too kinda died in his own way. Brilliant story.

@@SoorM .... Benjamin Button had some similarities with Forrest Gump, but the story was much more intimate, IMO.
Forrest Gump was a social & historical commentary as well as a personal love story. Benjamin Button was primarily the story of Benjamin, his life and his loves - especially Daisy.

Yup. There’s a line you don’t cross with a guy’s daughter and Joe just crossed it. I’ve noticed that’s the point of contention between Joe and bill. It’s not that Susan fell in love. It’s that she fell for someone who didn’t know the first thing about what it meant to truly love someone

I don't want to go into too much detail, just that this movie is one of my all time favorites. It hasn't won major prizes, it's not one of the best known... but it certainly does tell a story with great themes and great delicacy. The noise Michelle made at 20:40 had me cracking up lol Brad had her in a trance 😂. Also at the end Susan did know who he was. When he stared into her eyes it goes back to the old adage “staring death in the eyes/face.” That’s why she quivered when she said “you’re Joe.” But she also realized she’d fallen in love with death but wanted to know the feeling was mutual which is why she wanted him to tell her he loved her and why he said “thank you for loving me.”

The fact that he says that he is from the IRS (in charge of collecting taxes) is a joke, and it also fits the plot, which refers to the famous phrase attributed to Benjamin Franklin, among others, although it may be earlier "In this world , nothing is certain except death and taxes.” Two things that cannot be avoided.

Viki, you have such a soft heart! ♥ Another romantic movie that you'll all love is "The Lake House" (starring Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock). One bit of feedback for future videos ... the sound levels of the film were too low relative to your voices. If the volume was turned up loud enough for the dialogue of the film to be heard, your voices were WAY too loud. If the volume was turned down enough for the three of you to not be shouting, the film could barely be heard. Please tell whoever mixes your videos in the future to match the sounds levels more closely. Thanks! Great reaction though!

If you really think about it...the only sympathy is for death. Hes the only one losing. Everyone else gets what they want. The dad lived a life full of happiness. The daughter is reunited with her love and starting her journey of happiness. The only one who sacrificed is death. The only sad ending here is for death. Joe Black will live an eternity of despair without love while everyone else will be happy. Joe Black was the main character in this movie. And for the main character...this was a sad ending. Not a happy one.

I think that this was joe’s way of showing his love for Susan in a way that was selfless by returning the man she had that meet cute with at the coffee shop.

You Homies are so adorable. Your reactions so kindly emotional. Sometimes prematurely judging but in the moment very true.
Love the European and other jargon....so honest.
My only contribution to your great clip and this wonderful movie, albeit macabre... her face acting, quite specifically, is beyond remarkable. She speaks a thousand words in one single curl of a top lip..truly remarkable and as it is written maybe very true.
    Wonderful movie.

It is my belief, with the old lady in the hospital, he did not cure her pain, he has no control over that, but he showed her a vision of the next place, which was enough for her to wait until her time came. "Soon.".

I knew you would like this movie Michelle. I'm sorry Ellie wasn't apart of this viewing. You said it wasn't her father's choice who she loves because its her choice. I've come to learn there was a time in society adults chaperoned their young when it comes to love. The reason why was because marriage to the wrong person can ruin the rest of your life. Adults know more about the history of the town or place they live and use that knowledge to provide guidance to their young so they don't mess up their lives. In the movie the father says "I've loved Susan since the moment she was born. I love her now and every moment in between. I want someone who is worthy of her." That's the key word "worthy." That's why adults used to guide their young. They wanted to help in selecting someone "worthy." I know you will like "Extraction" with Chris Hemsworth. Ellie will like it as well. Maybe even more than you.
