  • IS NIPPLE CONFUSION A REAL THING?!
Feeding your baby a bottle, either full of breast milk, formula or parts of both has changed a lot over the years. Paced bottle feeding is going to be the best method of bottle feeding your new baby so that they are an active participant in feeding and a way to prevent reflux and overfeeding - not to mention a far less gassy baby.
In this video we are going to talk about when to introduce the first bottle to your baby if you wanted to lean into bottle feeding. Also how often should you be giving your baby a bottle and how can this effect your breast milk supply…
When should I consider bottle feeding?
How do I do paced bottle feeding?
Why feed your baby using paced bottle feeding over the more traditional way of bottle feeding?
What’s happening in our baby’s mouth when they are breastfeeding vs bottle feeding?
What are some early feeding cues?
How do I know my baby is full?
This video will be followed up soon with a video all about the comparisons of many different popular brands of baby bottles on the market and grading them from the perspective of a certified breastfeeding specialist! So stay tuned for that soon!

Thank you for calling out "nipple confusion". It's something I've been concerned about as I plan to welcome my first baby in December and breastfeed/bottle feed. I've been really concerned about being able to do both, especially because I need to go back to work, but want to still have that breastfeeding bond with her. I appreciate the video! Saved it to reference later!

As a second time mom, we knew I would probably have a low supply like with our first (pcos), but I still breast feed as well as bottle feed. Luckily both my kids have/had good latches, but I am such a hover parent when other people give my kiddo a bottle to make sure they are pace feeding so I dont have flow issues 😂

My little one is such a foodie that he screams 2 seconds after the nipple is taken out for the burping!
This kid will then hold onto his burps at all cost 🫠
He will also fall asleep sometimes while eating, and when we move to take the bottle away he wakes himself up to pull the bottle back, just to fall asleep again 10 seconds later.

Thank you for this. It is very helpful information. My breastfeeding journey ended much to soon with my last baby. I'm looking forward to trying again with my youngest due in November.

My baby was a NICU baby. There were Too many tubes to breastfeed initially so the bottle was the only option. I was able to speak to the lactation consultant, got help getting a latch, figured it holds for me, because my breasts went from D/C cups to F CUPS.
We went through a learning curve, but patience, and tuning out the initial crying, we’ve been able to bottle and breastfeed no problems.
You don’t get to pick which bottle the NICU uses, but it’s not the end of the world.

THANK YOU for making this video!!! I'm a birth doula and I spend quite a bit of time discussing which bottles/pacifiers and paced bottle feeding. I'm 100% sending all my clients to watch your pacifier, bottle, and paced bottle feeding videos after our postpartum chat so they can see and hear the info again from you! Your visuals are so friendly and your explanations are clear and the length of your videos are just right. Keep 'em coming! And BTW, I don't buy nipple confusion, either.

Warning! Babies lose their suck reflex and may stop taking bottles if they don’t take them frequently enough! My son took usually 1 bottle every day from week 1 to week 8 when he suddenly stopped taking them. This led to a lot of frustration because I couldn’t leave him with anyone else for very long and I couldn’t take naps while he was watched and fed anymore. And then when I had to go on a trip for several days when he was 4.5 months old, we spent so much money and time trying to get him to take a bottle.
So in hindsight, I wish we had given him bottles more frequently and encouraged him to use a pacifier to keep him well practiced with bottle sucking.
