Jim I'm 52 years old and you inspired me and made me think I could learn the banjo so I bought one after just lesson 5 I can play any song I know from church growing up God bless you, you've made me so happy, walnut springs TX
Jim, I am 56 and playing banjo for 10 years. I love your simple approach to learning banjo and songs we all love. Your warm and inviting personality is genuine. We were praying for you during your recent health challange. God bless what you do.
Love seeing new videos from you sir. I started playing 3 years ago with your intro series. It was slow starting but with the time invested it pays off quickly. Just hearing your voice makes me smile. Great memories. Been following Eli Gilbert lately. So thankful that you guys are willing to share your knowledge. Much respect Jim.
Jim, I cant tell you how much you have helped me learn to play the banjo. You have been a great teacher without even knowing me so thanks for the great material and keep up the great work!
Truly you are the best banjo teacher on RUclips. God bless you sir. I appreciate your teaching and humble attitude. I admire you and have great respect for you. Thank you very much!
Been teaching myself the banjo for a year and half now starting with your bluegrass tutorials and then onto your other lessons/songs, just wanted to say thank you :)
I have loved this song for decades ! Just a bit of history on Fox on the Run that I discovered when our band decided to do it .I had always thought that Manfred Mann had written it , but I recently discovered that it was written by Tony Hazzard , the country singer/songwriter . Manfred Mann took it and did it as a Pop song . The Country Gentlemen heard it , and did it as a Bluegrass tune , and it became a Bluegrass standard from there on .🪕😎👍
Jim -- I'm so glad you did the segment on playing backup. I sometimes worry that my backup isn't "fancy" enough, when compared to what I hear on the recordings of Earl, JD, Sonny and others. But I'm doing pretty much the same as what you're doing here. I just focus on staying in time and on the right chord. It's good to know that often simple is just fine, even for a pro level player.
I wouldve quit the banjo shortly after starting if it wasnt for your amazing tutorials. Thanks for still posting regularly. Youre a blessing to this small community
Youve helped alot! Youve become a household name here. Idk if you have a video going over different chords but that could be a cool idea for a video. All i really know are D7 C and F.
@@Twelvegagesage I generally only teach chords as they come up. That's kinda how I learned them. If I needed a chord I didn't know, then I'd go look it up.
Hey jim, glad to see your still doing what you do best. I've been scratching my head on bluegrass breakdown lately. I think that might be a good build a break song as well if you are up to it. I've been trying to finish up college so not a whole lot of practice room at the moment but I'll be graduating by the spring of next year :) hope all is well in your neck of GA. Coastal GA down here is good, we just cant decide what season we want during the day :)
The banjo sounds amazing. I 'm struggling to get my pull-offs to.. sound. Also, any tips on Steve Earle's Galway Girl? It's not a bluegrass song... but I think it can be.
@@JimPankey Thanks Jim! I struggle especially when a tune goes from open strings right into a 3-2 pull-off. Either I mute some other string or I can't get my fat fingers there in time. I'll keep at it.

This is fantastic! So proud of you!!
You are the only person that has fox on the run on their channel that I have found
Glad I posted it.
I would LOVE to see more melodic style songs Jim! Thanks so much
I'll have to give that some thought. Thing is, I feel that once you're ready to start looking at melodic style you're probably able to figure it out .
thank you jim I got my banjo wanting to learn this song and was sad when i could find any tabs or tutorials for this
Glad I can help 😊
This helps so incredibly much with understating the timing of backup. Thank you!!!
Glad it helped!
you know what they say, sometimes the best sounding banjo is the one that is not being played;) Thanks for the lesson!
So true!

This was a great simple tutorial, sometimes we tend to over complete the banjo! Keep up the great work!

BGB is a good suggestion. Might have to give that some thought.
Hiya Jim! wonderful tutorial!! Perhaps you could make a tutorial for the John Hartford song Lorena? Thanks!
Thanks. That’s a good suggestion, but it’s not a tune I really play.

Can I get the Tab for this tune? I followed the link; however, I was unable to find the tune.
I didn’t tab this one.
Jim Pankey , thanks Jim? I think it is in one of your books???
Well shucks... you’re right. Wonder why I never shared it as an individual tab. Let me see if I can rectify that.
