This will be cool to watch. Many times I have thought about doing exactly this….just haven’t had the “courage”. Any history with the car? Any thoughts on the IMS bearing?
Literally zero history other than Carfax which is pretty good. No communication from the seller. Will go ahead and assume no IMS done but engine has 140k on it so that’s a good sign.
If that's a 996, which the headlights indicate, it's not a 2011. Motor sounds horrible, better do some diagnostics on it, and have an oil analysis performed.
@@db8094 I’ll be dammed. Well it’s obviously not a 2011 but I’m not the best with words. I was probably trying to say 2000 and 911 at the same time, lol.
At 140k mikes you’re certain to have cam deviations that are out of spec, unless someone went in there and did the service. Requires an engine drop and typically costs about $6,000 just to do the chain guides and tensioners. Most of the POs of the older 996s never do the service. If the chain guides break apart enough, and/or a tensioner fails you could lose the motor. Of course everyone knows about the IMS issues that can also grenade the motor but that’s a little too hyped up IMO. I just bought a cheap salvage 996. Car is going in on 9/1 to drop the motor and do this service.
@@kevinSpolley thanks for the heads up. Hoping to not have an issue like that but will take it in to see what all it needs. Just replaced a water hose with the wrong one so will need to address that. Pretty sure the suspension is shot and the auto trans acts a bit funny. Manual mode seems to work fine and is of course much more fun. Stay tuned!
@@HacktivistMechanic , it’s normal wear on those cars, especially at that mileage. If you have a mechanic that has a Durametric scan tool then they can read the cam deviation from the DME module in the car. Actually a nice feature to be able to read it from a computer so you know if you need to get the service done without having to spend the money to drop the motor to see. Suspension def shot at 140k. Gotta love the way these cars are built,,,,suspension so easy to work on. Aftermarket Rebuild parts also very reasonably priced IMO. Also the automatics are stout, I’m sure you’ll get that sorted no problem. If you are going to keep the car Id recommend looking into the cam system before beating on it.

Always good to see another video from you! As for paying off bills… I think we’ve all traded financial security for a new toy haha! 😎

Who said anything about a 2011? It’s clearly a 996 from 2000 and it has sat for awhile hence ticking engine.
you def say 2011 Porsche 911 at 1:42 😄

How cheap was it
Cheap enough that I’m worried
