My parents were members of the Greatest Generation. My mother just passed away in October. She was 91 years old. My father died in 2011 at the age of 86. He fought in WWII. It was my oldest brother, 11 years older than me, that introduced me to the Beatles, when I was 6 years old. He gave me a 45 with Revolution on one side, the only one I played, and Hey Jude on the flip side. Those who say the Beatles didn’t make a difference in people’s lives, much less popular culture, don’t know what they’re talking about. They made a difference in mine when I was 6 years old. When your mother is being abused, in whatever way and you couldn’t do anything to stop it, listening to Revolution over and over while jumping on the bed was all this six year old could do. It even included the screaming part for which I used for an altogether different purpose. I have six children and I said to them as children, now adults, listening to the Beatles will NEVER become irrelevant in music nor the memories of those who made it through hard times thanks to them. RIP John and George. Music is now a part a therapy but in 1969 I figured it out myself.
