Excellent video, Sean. Thanks for the discount code. Will be ordering the 15L messenger bag soon. I got the Nanuk 935 rolling camera case with padded dividers. LOVE IT! No longer do I have to carry a camera bag that causes me pain in my shoulders and lower back. I'm going to be using it extensively at the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta - I'm an Official Photographer this year.
My biggest issue when traveling in Europe and Asia is the 7kg total weight for all carry on/personal items. Makes it almost impossible to not check any gear. Hurts so bad to see my gear checked but I e had flights recently that it’s been unavoidable.
Man it sucks. Thats why I made this video, to have somewhat of a workaround if that happens. In Asia they’re more lenient and often don’t weigh my bag, but in Europe it’s brutal. Luckily some airlines are offering extra carry on weight/bags as an add on. Albeit it’s not cheap. I have a few buddies who travel around Europe with a hard case quite often and said they don’t have any issues. I think the fact that it’s a hard case puts gate agents off from asking you to check it. And worst case if they do, just pull out the modular unit and carry that on so your gear is safe.
I've never had any airline so far weigh my camera bag (sometimes its 15-20kg) both within Europe and outside ... I find the trick is to not take it off your back. Make it look as light as you can! If they also ask to hold it, ask them for their insurance and how much liability they have. Sometimes explaining the value of your bag is a bid deterrent.
Lots of options with that setup! Always curious how other folks are flying with camera gear, though I think I have my system pretty much figured out, great to see how other folks are doing it. Thanks!
Usually, mentioning that you have gear with lithium batteries means they don’t force you to check the bag. I have carried a folded up grocery bag, just in case, though the one time I started transferring my gear to it, out of the rolling case, the lady at the gate said: “Just take it on the plane.”
Don’t forget desiccated beads to prevent mold or moisture from accumulating with temperature change. I put an inexpensive humidity meter I bought on Amazon. If I’m keeping my lenses or electronic in the case.
Very good call, thanks for pointing this out! I have a dry cabinet in Bali but it’s a huge problem when I visit Thailand. Will definitely pick some of these up
I've tried different systems over the years including Think Tank roller bags and Pelican cases. Currently my travel kit will go in a Tenba bag which goes in a hard sided roller suitcase. I like using a plain suitcase with 4 wheels which doesn't scream, valuable stuff inside, and rolls easier than 2 wheels. That suitcase has been gate checked many times with no damage to my gear. I can see it put into the plane and I pick it up before we even enter the airport. Except for my tripod I would NEVER put my photo gear in my checked bag. Nanuk does make good cases. I have a couple that I use for my drones.
Looks awesome this dude. Picked up a Peli a while ago and it's been a game changer. Do love the idea of the modular system. Could carry on your hard case and put clothes in your camera bag or vice versa....as long as they don't lose your checked bag haha
Would love to get the smallest possible hardcase for my camera (fujifilm x t50) and my drone (dji mavic 3 pro) since i would need to fit it in my backpack when traveling. unfortunately the nanuk boxes are quite expensive, especially when i cant try them hands on before buying.
Yeah it’s only for US and CA stores unfortunately :( might have to do with shipping. Sorry man. The Nanuk is solid though, better built than the pelicans.
Nanuk’s got the best hard cases in the business, shoutout to them for sponsoring this video. Use code SEAN30 to get 30% off on Nanuk USA and CA sites.
We are so happy you like our products! Thank you !

Do they weight everyone’s carry ons?
Europe is chill lol, Australia is next level mate the weigh every flight, and you can buy 14kg carry on but the weight of 1 bag is 10kg max
I've never had a carry on weighed in either europe or asia.

Good looking gear. I like that it’s so modular. I think that is key when travelling.
Thank you! Yes, we really focus on functionality!
It really is, I love the modular system

Great point, very true!

Thank you Jesse!
Imagine the pain of flying with a 600 f4 these days.... :) Good video. I love Nanuk; have yet to try one of their soft bags.
Sheesh what a behemoth!
Instantly recognized Monterey!! Excited to see what shots you got during your time here!
Thanks man! Weather wasn’t all that great but got a few keepers! Posted a few on IG already
