We need longer videos not shorter ones, I’m starting a petition.
Wheat been slagged that this video was 30 mins just for liner installs lol
I love the videos I can’t wait till they come out . I can’t wait till I save up get a rs3 and see theses boys to maintain it . There the best in the game
Longer videos for the win
I'm in for longer videos. Please ask Davlah to get close ups in a bit better focus. I'm absolutely chuffed your working on a McLaren.
@@MCLStormtrooper yeah we do loads mate, have done for some time!
Nerves of steel Ricky. The sight of all that debris would of had my bum hole uncontrollably winking in abject fear that a wandering swarf was lying in wait to cost me ££££’s.
Cleaned up, dealt with and crack on. True pro.
That build has to be perfection as Karl was supervising 😂😂
😂😂
Well it’d be a realistic build at least
Brilliant as always, and you teach us soooooo much! Thank you :)
Thank you
Wanted to say the same.
(Loved it, around 3 seconds before u said is it time for a tea. As I was thinking, if I was there I'd be making a proper brew myself at that time)
I love ur building skills and attention to detail
Thank you. Glad you’re enjoying the videos
I love that tool for inserting the sleeves, it offers precision and repeatability. I would however look at a thrust bearing between the screw and the plate to prevent the swarf issue. 👍❤️👊 Hi Kate. 👋
Yeah the swarf was off the thread not the contact point but you are right, I need something to stop the tip galling!
@@REPerformanceUK a recirculating ball screw would sort that right out. 👍
You could ask your machinist mate to put a brass/bronze insert in there instead of steel on aluminum. I'm in the process of making one for myself.
@@MCLStormtrooper Yeah ill probably use an axial bearing too.
@@MCLStormtrooper spot on that would do it. 👍👊
Something about watching that liner go in that is extremely satisfying 😊😊
I totally agree!
Thank you and a Happy New Year to you all. Also YES the man in Germany who works on BE-EMS, his vids are LOVELY, smashing that you mention his vids.
Absolutely brilliant, many thanks, I’m absolutely fascinated, love the attention to detail, many thanks guys and Kate obvs. Keep well all 🙏
Carl get your dad to get a noble, then Ricky can buy it off him for more parts 🤣🤣🤣🤣
HNY guys 🍺🍺
Ricky, just for fun torque, a wheel nut down using 5 or 6 extentions, torque to spec, then check it with just a socket. You may be amazed that the values are the same. Don’t be surprised that it feels different, but the torque spec will be correct. My granddad taught me this trick.
Great content guys, rolling on to 30k subs, should be much more.
Thank you!! Glad you’re enjoying them
The damp patches on the ceiling tiles are doing my head in lol.
That 190e was a G reg.. i'm sure its a 2.5 16v. The 2.3 16v engine was built by cosworth and the 2.5 16v was engineered by cosworth and built by Mercedes 👍🏻🤘🏽
Half my colon is now hanging out from trying to stay on the loo for the length of this vid.....thanks👍
😂😂
😂😂 I also say babysitting 😅, also annoys the wife when I do! Great content as always pal
Oh please do a 3 hour session! I need stuff to distract me from my work day
20:50 someone forgot to put the plate in the jig 😂
I wasn't the only one to see it lol
And it wasn’t the only time I did it!! 😂😂
Couldn't help but notice during the poop talk the hoody was reading as IBS 😂😂
😂😂🤦🏼♀️
Should see if you could get an engineering company to make flanged steel inserts or slimserts for your torque blocks. They use slimserts loctited into soft material (Ally, Mag) hydraulic blocks in the aerospace industry especially when bolts are removed & refitted quite regular. Stops cross threading of soft metal threads or scoring of seating faces. Proably wouldn't have to use lubricant / grease under washers when preloading blocks if flanged slimserts are made of high grade steel or stainless. If slimserts are severally damaged, can be removed & replaced without needing to replace an expensive torque block.
Certainly worth considering for future, every little improvement helps. Great video as always Ricky 👍
Yeah I was thinking brass washers to be honest but I’ll look in to that! They just have to be able to hold under 80ft lbs!
aaaaaand i'm finished, oh and so is the video, perfect.
🙌🏼🙌🏼
One down side I find with a dedicated trackday car is although running well when you put it on the trailer, you cant always be confident all is still working fine when you arrive at the next track day with no ability to try on the road before
Hi Ricky, love the channel, may want to think about the spacing on FBS vs the hoodie strings as it looks like IBS more often than you may think on video 😂
20 mins for a dump video is just about right inc wipe time 👍
you guys are a damn trip LOL I came across your channel by chance watch vids on efi tuning, I'm happy I found you channel and I enjoyed vids I've watched so far. lastly, I personally hate short vids lol I look forward to watching more of your vids
😂 great to listen to you guys. Thank you for sharing and showing how much time go's in to the prep. I would like to ask if you reuse the head studs again after this process? Look forward to more on this build 👍💯
Merch not shipping to Canada :( -Great videos guys, hands down my fav content on youtube.
Oh happy new year to you the lads and family
Thank you. And to you too.
Gotta be like an f80 m4 for a track car around 40k.
Or ep3 for fwd and just boost it to 500hp or something if ya want to go fast in a straight line. Or just leave it NA n see what corners ya don't have to brake for
You might find that the hole inside the deep sockets for the bolt/stud to pass will be too small when using those aircraft style nuts, the holes usually only correspond to standard size bolts and nuts.
I’ve actually learned so much and I’m an old fart in cars , motorsport for longer than you’ve been born so thanks you can learn an old fart new tricks 👍🏻🇬🇧👏👏👏👏👏 BMW jibe stung a little but I forgive you 😂
"Get your torque plates out" hahahahahah
Would you a white board lesson on the liner reliefs to help us imagine it better?
Nearly 30k well done
Thank you!
How thick are your torque plates? I'm about to make a set for myself. Love the McLaren videos. Make them as long as possible. I watch 'em over and over.
Q, at what point will you decide to reface the Torque plate, looks like its made of ally, clamping steel liners, i'd expect to see some indentations after a while of usage..
Could you put the liners in to a freezer for easier installation?
Hi all at REP, happy new year
Ricky, this may be a question you have already answered. What's the benefit of fitting linners, and why do tuners use them.
Thanks
Steve
Managed to have pooh, coffee, and another pooh in the 45 mins
Rick You are doing it all wrong mate, I think you should do a reaction video on the Mini prototype engine builds over on Ivans Shed. The way he realigns his crankshaft is MINT !
Not seen that mate!
Hi guys. Love the show. Ricky why do you remove the studs every time. You are reusing a pair of holes for the next one, why not just undo the nuts and leave the studs in place?
Tea needs to be Assam Tea, bag goes in a bone china cup pour on hot water and gently wave the spoon around to agitate the bag, do not squeeze the bag against the side of the cup, add sugar and milk as required, that is perfection
Hi, I've been enjoying past uploads. I was wondering what happened to the RS3 Engine. " We fixed it ! Thought it was coming back for a dyno run. 👍🏻
The RS3 engine is with VGS who are fitting a bigger turbo kit and the project has been finished yet! It will go on the dyno as needs tuning!
Bedankt
Thank you so much! That’s very kind!!
The only thing you did wrong was slate BMW 😆 - I love E28s and E34s!
Question: Are the studs you used for the liner press and torque plate reusable?
Yes
The ceiling tiles above the wipe board look stained, has there been a leak from above? Love the meticulous standards you adhere to, beyond doubt the very best.
Yeah the roof leaked in the terrible weather over Christmas. Can through the dyno roof worse! Luckily it only stained engine room roof tiles and didn’t come through…..gutted mate!!
Carl ur dad can buy my r33 gtr vspec series 3 520hp, deep marine blue, no rust and in amazing condition👍
That press tool needs a thrust bearing in the bottom so you dont get swarf
I agree!
To get the flat on the liner to be in the correct position.....is it located in the puller in a specific position.....great channel....you should invite stretton M539 over for a visit.....he gets all serious when he is with other people....he us a funny guy....
The liner has two machines flats which locate inside the press tool perfectly….
It goes in, even if both of us cries.
Did the customer ship the motor for the build, from south africa?
Are those bolts that go in the torque plate sacrificial? Or are they used again in the build? I once ‘built” a cortina engine, but not to the level you guys go to. We did it in the garden in an afternoon! 😂
Love your videos too g in car mechanics and engine re builds . I have an Audi a6 2.0 tdi is it worth mapping and having the dpf removed ? Just worried that the dpf will get blocked over time
You've said on this video and on Facebook "don't buy a 30k R8! "
But I wonder if with the current prices being lower than ever due to the current market, tax, insurance and people's finances for a 'weekend car' if that's actually the case now. 🤔
If its a 30k car, perhaps that's opening it up to a home mechanic a bit more than a 40 or 50k one would. If so and it needs a set of brakes or dampers, is it really such a bad buy?
A 30k car today isn't the same as a 30k car a couple of years ago.
Two of those studs could stay in for two liners? Also wouldnt freezing them overnight mean theyd fall straight in ??
Love your channel. I have a Yamaha R1-Z 250cc two stroke. How are you with two strokes
If you doing next Q and A I'm going to cartagena for the first time in march any tips since you just went ? Seems like a place you need short gearing
No mate nothing special on gearing! I used 15/44 on my R6 same as Donny. All the corners are very late entry so don’t rush in!
Can you not warm the block and freeze the liners so they just drop in
Noble sat in the corner get it done .....track day .
Karl, I'd buy a Noble and spend 5 years rebuilding it. Opps Ricky did buy one
Wow low blow 😂😂
@@REPerformanceUK I'll try any low blow to make Karl smile. Please tell me He did at that? Mr Realistic must find some things in life funny
Can you get the liner tool modified to push on a thrust bearing rather than the stud end on a greased pocket?
Yeah I was trying to think how I could improve the contact area. I was thinking of machining it flat then using a thrust washer as you say. The puller element of it is like that.
I think the drive in thread is totally of the wrong design. Rather than what looks as a standard metric coarse thread design, it needs to be of a trapezoidal form which would transmit more torque for less effort in pushing the liners in. And using a bearing at the end plate would make it even better. They don't use Acme or metric trapezoidal threads on lathes and other driving machines for nothing lol
@samrodian919 I think if you are pulling/pushing hard enough to bring thread design into it, something is going very wrong and is about to break.
my 720s engine blew from the bottom, anyway you can fix this
So...Davlar.
Love the videos..
Would the noble be good as a track car for you.?
Why didn’t you replace the liners with ductile iron or steel liners given these are a known issue with modded engines? Are 720 liners ok?
I come for the So.... And stay for Devlar 😂
😂😂😂
Where can i get this tool also hope u guy are ready this ‼️⁉️‼️⁉️‼️⁉️‼️⁉️⁉️‼️⁉️‼️⁉️
Q, can you feel the difference when pushing the liner in if the O ring is twisted? I've found that my sense of feeling for any binding slowly disapears when using kit to push liners in . ( I used to build larger diesel engines, around 50-200l per engine)
Happy new year to you all and Kate
Track cars how about the V8 M3 .
Also question
When people talk about Stroking an engine I know they do t mean open the bonnet and touch up the rockers can you explain.
If I was getting an M3 would be E46 and I’d make it wide arch like out of the first Need for Speed!! 😍
Business class to Dubai very nice. If you want some recommendations for hotels, just let me know my son works for the Hilton group.
I should be so lucky! Lol
Are the hoodies generous or tight? I’m in between a large and an X Large
Thanks lads
We are sold out of the new hoodies in large and XL but have a look on the Reperformance website for the older style merch availability. We still have plenty of tees left in the new style though.
I almost forgot..... So!
What grade aluminum do you guys use to build torque plates?
Hey up lads top video do youse re clean block after the install and as a side line about 1990 me and the girlfriend got a lift in a 190 Merc on autobahn was cruising like 200k said to fella these are sposed to go well and spent next hour doing 240 and that was in the rain
Not unless I have reason too but in theory everything should be spotless!
Question - I've heard you say a few times about NOT buying a £30k R8........Question is 'Would you not inspect an R8 for a customer who is potentially looking at a car at entry level for them?'
I'm currently in an Evo 6 but need would be looking at a £35k budget for an R8 when the Evo has gone......Is this still going to get me a shitter?
Sreten has his first non bmw build hidden in his workshop!
Interesting!!
Smashing content!
Question: what brought you from Vw/Audi to McLaren - did you train somewhere for this? Did it happen by coincidence or was it intentional? Cheers!
No with the McLaren stuff I just bought an engine and stripped it to reverse engineer all the assembly procedures and did lots and lots of research!
Like I said….it just nuts and bolts!
@@REPerformanceUK awesome, thanks!
I used to work at a cat shelter but I had to quit.
They reduced meowers.
That’s hilarious!!
No gay in the village clip disappointing, im only joking, your channel is growing because the ads are alot longer, fair play 2 you sir
👌
Question for Ricky. Do you worry about flash rusting etc on the engine components in this lovely British weather? Or do you coat everything? Cheers. M
REP’s engine room is air conditioned, both to keep it temperature stable but also control humidity. Covered this in a previous episode 👍
Although I note the REP,engine room has/had some water ingress problems looking at the ceiling tiles
@@jamest5149 cheers!
If anything has a risk of flashing like iron blocks etc we spray in wd40 to stop it!
Yeah gutted mate! The weather over Xmas brought a ceiling tile down in workshop, put water in dyno and stained the engine room ceiling! Luckily no water ingress as all my Mitutoyo kit was underneath!
Evening gets question for Ricky did you ever race 2strokes or are you too young for that ? Cheers 👍
Never raced a stroker on the circuits mate, but ridden a few! I got off MX straight to 600 ssp!
@@REPerformanceUK nice jump from MX to SSP , nothing beats the smell of Silkoline 2stroke oil wafting around 😂😂😂
@@andywalsh1185or no engine braking when you snap the throttle shut! Lol
Hi Ricky, not trying to be a smart arse here.
Would hardened steel "Top Hat" section inserts in the top face of your billet torque blocks stop the galling ?
No it’s a valid point mate! I was actually thinking of brass washers….
Ricky, perhaps brass would "Give" under the high torque figures you use ?
The other issue is the holes in the blocks will start to swage in ,over time . Love your stuff mate, I have been in Motorsport for 40+ years, and still am learning. Cheers. Neil.@@REPerformanceUK
5:25 , it feels wrong, said the man with his hand deep in a hole! 😅😅😮
😜
I can't believe I asked a liner question on the last video and then get presented with this on the next vid...... I expected them to be so much more of an interference fit and need freezing to fit
Ditto, the liners are obviously tight, but what is the main force keeping them solid, surely it cannot be the sealing rings ? 😟
Should get a pulsar gtir.
A good one yes!! I want one!!
Hi Ricky, the digital torque wrench ur using with the green handle what make is it? I'm guessing Snap-on
Yea sir!!
@@REPerformanceUK After I asked the Q while watching video you said it was snap on lol. Sorry for not watching all of video first lol.
@@Frosty-hx6ky😂😂
The bobble on your hat was to protect sailors in small places from banging there heads as well as making people look like nobs 😂
Still does the same job then 😂
Hey Rick on an engine build approximately how many times do you assemble and disassemble an engine on a build
Depending on the engine 2 is a bloody good day! Most was a V8 merc and that was 8! Lol Just always little things that needed adjusting or modding and we didn’t know the platform!
@REPerformanceUK thanks so much rick I thought about 3 to 4 times with all the tolerances
Did you forget to put the tool back together properly for the 3rd liner after cleaning it??
I forgot to put the press plate back on so had to take it back off again! Lol
@@REPerformanceUK love the videos especially the bike ones hopefully coming to watch you at one of your meetings this year👍
Turn the Tool out for a small Axial Bearing also the Spindel and you will never have the Dirtproblems....
I do need to do something!!
Hello, to avoid Metal Shavings just add a Small Bearing to your Tool Spindel...@@REPerformanceUK
Am I making it up or do the liners sometimes get frozen in liquid nitrogen and the block heated to make them fit? Is that a different process?
Yeah that is a dry liner process mate where you fit a steel liner inside a complete bore.
These are wet liner inserts with o rings to stop coolant transfer
Cheers chap!
You have a leak mate. Ceiling tiles above the white board are wet. Could end up contaminating something
We do!! The rain affected us badly over the last few weeks it’s noted don’t worry!!
Doesn't the 720S have a fully forged bottom end from the factory?
No mate! Rods are cheese!
Shocking
Would you consider forged titanium rods to save weight?
@@MCLStormtrooper No, they don't add much and they stretch.
Don’t track car buy a track bike you can buy a cheap van and leave it the back, fold up trailer to carry it around and keep it in the dining room between track days
I think better editing would help you out internally if thats what your after
Lol, just buy an engine & build it!..... just done exactly that, a Porsche engine for £150, it's just nuts & bolts
Great mate! Only way to learn!
Davlar has a new name for poo sticks. Winnie the poo would be proud. That's enough with the poo jokes.
Just watch a bit of anchor man…😂😂😂 minter
Amazing film!!
No I’m not having this bmw for the win 😂😂😂
😂😂
