- This is an abridged version of the live stream from 10-21-2018 about negative Korean verbs and conjugations, as well as negative adverbs. This covers 안, 지 않다, 못, 지 못하다, as well as the negative verbs 없다, 모르다, and 아니다, and negative adverbs like 그다지 (그닥), 전혀, 절대로, and 별로.

Wow you are a really great teacher. Teaching English in Korean I've seen a lot on youtube. But teaching Korean as a non-native speaker can be much trickier because you really need to know Korean and know how to explain. Many native Korean speakers like myself wouldn't be able to teach this topic like you did here. Bravo!! 👏👏👏

In case of 한자 word,
We can understand the meanting of the word by knowing the meaning of each single letter.
I studied Korean in the past but never once I understood that the "An" form could be only used with Pure Korean verbs. That's why I like this channel!

Not sure if you mentioned this but I think that it's a really important point in Korean. Which is how the sentence has to be fully negative. You have to have 안 PLUS the negative verb in the same sentence. Unlike English. In English we can say (I don't like ). But in Korean it's "I don't not like"

I have a question for Learn Korean with GO! Billy Korean...
1. Can I use 지 못하다 with Pure korean verbs/adj and Sino korean verbs/adj ?
2. Is it more appropriate to use 지 못하다 with only the pure korean verbs/adj ?
P.S In this text the symbol / = or
You can use ~지 못하다 with any verb.

Great video as usual, but I have a question about 생각. You said it was a part of the Sino-Korean word stock, but according to Naver dictionary, it has no corresponding Chinese characters. Thank you in advance!
correct me if im wrong, but he said that if it has no 漢子 then its MOST LIKELY not sino-korean meaning that 생각 is probably still sino-korean
supechube k. I’m afraid I don’t understand what you mean. To my understanding a word without corresponding Chinese characters pertains to native Korean vocabulary.

안녕하세요, 질문이 있습니다 and that's about as far as I can go in korean 😂😂😂😂 anyways how do I use the ~지 않다 form with the ~고 싶다 form?
i know that ~고 싶지 않다 is correct, but is ~지 않고 싶다 also correct? and if , then does it mean exactly the same thing as ~고 싶지 않다 and it's just a matter of using whichever? or do they carry different connotations/meanings (i.e. one is more formal/unnatural/casual/etc.)
It would be ~고 싶지 않다, or sometimes 안 ~고 싶다. Saying ~지 않고 싶다 would sound very unnatural.

I'm really confused why 안 is not in the middle 안 좋아해요 but in 공부 안해요 the 안 is located in the middle can somebody help me please.
The verb is 좋아하다, it's not 좋아 하다 - it's just 좋아하다 as one verb. If you'd like a more in-depth reason, it's because 좋아하다 isn't a combination of 하다 ("to do") with a verb, it's a separate grammar form. 공부(를) 하다 on the other hand is 공부 ("study") + 하다 ("to do") and literally means "to do studying." 좋아하다 just means "to like" and nothing else.

No, 철수 and 영희 were common characters in old Korean school textbooks, and the names are kind of like "Bobby" and "Sally."

What if a verb is Sino-Korean but also a descriptive verb? For example 행복하다. Someone said it would sound unnatural to split it and say 행복 안 하다. Are they right or is it still okay? If it's not okay, can descriptive Sino-Korean verbs be used with 안 as an exception? Like 안 행복해요?
I know I can just say 행복하지 않아요, but I was curious about the usage with 안. Or is it totally impossible to use 안 in this situation?

All of those descriptive verbs are one piece and can't be split, so it could never become 행복 안 하다.
@@GoBillyKorean Thank you. And 안 행복하다 also can't be used since it's a Sino-Korean word? Does it mean that 행복하다 can't be used with 안 at all and it can be used only with ~지 않다? (Or maybe this is an exception and 안 행복하다 is fine even though it's Sino-Korean?)

@@a.m.5917 안 행복하다 is not an action verb, and it can be used. However more often 행복하지 않다 will be used.
