My great uncle taught in the English dept. in the late 1950s to 1970. It was a safe environment then and there was respect for the University community,

I live in Florida and got accepted into Temple University with a good scholarship wanting to major into Exercise science. I was excited up until I searched up the school and the surrounding areas of the college is pretty violent. So safety is my concern. Temple students being gun pointed at getting robbed. Juveniles near the university in crowds armed. It’s concerning honestly. My classmate in my high school asked me what college I wanted to go to and I said temple university and he was like where’s that and I said in Philadelphia and he was like “PHILLY, the ghetto!? and all I did was smile awkwardly and said yeah. I’m born and raised in Florida and don’t have family in Philadelphia. So though I didn’t get accepted into the colleges I wanted to go to in Florida like UCF or UF i got back up colleges that I got accepted to in Florida. I’ve decided to stay in Florida and study up north in the university I got accepted to. It was a hard decision but I’m more comfortable abt my choice. Don’t get me wrong, Temple seems like a super cool college but the area it’s in it’s just not good. Like you’re supposed to enjoy your time at college not be concerned about your safety. People in the comments of recent news abt temple saying why would they build this university near the ghetto, people saying they transferring out the college and people saying temple refuse to talk abt the safety concerns of students that they have to hide in the dorms. Like dang man. But yeah good luck to everyone who chooses to attend temple, ya just stay safe and walk in big groups always. But yeah idk what do you guys think who currently attends temple or plan on to?

Yes, you are right to be afraid. Be very afraid. Philly doesn't enforce its laws, and the criminals run wild. I live just outside Philadelphia, but I avoid the city as much as possible. And you are right about Temple being located in the heart of Philadelphia's worst ghetto.

I had got into this school before attending the college I go to now but am planning to transfer I like temple but the safety part was concerning because Ive heard of incidents that shouldnt be happening near a school but then I see ppl on youtube that seem like they having a good time and are unaffected so its like hmm.If only the location was different because it had seemed like a good fit for me based on what I saw.

Yes, and it is worse with our "woke" DA Larry Krasner. If you are white, you should stay out of Philadelphia.
