- Another of our favorite mecha in the early 80's. Robotech the Macross Saga. Ship and Mech designs were amazing. Especially the variable fighter VF-1 Valkyrie. Should be interesting to see sometime in the future Battletech's unseen Phoenix LAM mech and the Transformers G1 Skyfire (toy) animated alongside the Robotech VF-1 since they share the same design.

I grew up watching Robotech. Every afternoon I couldn't wait to see what that day's episode would be. Amazing to see this! Makes me just as excited as it did back then. AMAZING!!

Yes, it does take me back but it also brings out my love of the F-14 and VF-84 Jolly Rogers. But then again I am a fan of VF-111 Sun Downers.

This is amazing. With this level of animation, combined with live-action, there is no reason why couldn't have an incredible movie.
And a proper casting. Unlike the one from several years ago that supposedly was going to have katy perry as Minmei

Macross never went away. You just didnt get to see it because of Harmony Gold.

Macross has been going since the first one over two decades ago. The two most recent ones - Macross Frontier and Macross Delta - are a bit more idol focused but they're good. Especially Macross Frontier - which I consider to be as every bit as good (if not better in some respects) to the original Macross.

I remember having, just the right leg of the Macross. I played with it as a child, hoping that some day, I can get the whole action figure. I found the leg in the street, and wondered how it got there. Didn't at that time know it belongs to a Macross. Always loved the F14 tomcat. Get childhood memories.
I had the Macross as a kid and when I had a temper tantrum I threw it against a wall and busted into several pieces. All that I was left with was an arm which I kept for many years (until my wife convinced me to throw it away). Maybe that leg was a piece of my busted Macross, haha!
Shoji Kawamori is an absolute amazing artist, his art makes dreamers dream bigger.

I'm a Japanese Macross fan.
Within the atmosphere you need to purge the super pack.
Hikaru, Max and Kakizaki are in the Skull Squadron led by Roy Focker.
They work as a team on aircraft with their respective colorings other than yellow.
I’m old. One time, I was on the phone with my mom when I was like 9 and this show came on and I forgot we were on the phone until it was over. When I say it came on, like real time on TV so mid 80s. My mom was freaking out when called her back.

While it would be nice, I suggest you watch the "Fullmetal Alchemist" and "Space Battleship Yamato" live action movies and then decide.

If you use actors of the same ethnicity as the characters were named and drawn, you're accused of whitewashing, and conversely, with an all Japanese cast, people won't be happy with say a Japanese Rick Hunter.

As anyone notice that the piece holding the tail fin for most Valkyrie as been reverse upside down. The armored one is correct but not the normal version with the exception of the blue one after they transform into the plane configuration.
Yes, I noticed that.. I thought it might have been some unusual variant, don't know how they'd manage to get that wrong.

Looks quite cool and such, but those SuperValkyrie armor packs were created to be used in space. They are not aerodynamic and would break the VF-1 aerodynamics in the atmosphere. I remember that the armor was quickly detached/ ditched whenever the plane entered the atmosphere. It helped being used as a shield for the reentry but didn't remain attached to the plane afterwards.
This is a work of art and brings back so much thank you 🙏🏼

The most popular jet in the 80s was the F14 Tomcat hence the design applied on the Valkyries.
I think Kawamori Sensei was inspired by that particular plane because of it's variable wings and folding intake panels (which convert for supersonic flight). VF does stand for Variable Fighter after all. He just took it to the next level.
If the live action robotech movie is this good, it would be this awesome.
Speaking of live action anime, the live action space battleship yamato gets a lot of hate, but I think it was really good, especially considering they only spent $15 million making it. The only let down in it was the gamilons themselves
I didn't think the booster pack could be used in the atmosphere. They always seem to be only used in space, and they look like a-lot of extra weight under gravity.
They can't, for space use only.

The armored Valkyrie was only used in outer space, never for atmospheric flight. Which makes sense since it probably would have been too heavy to fly.
Noticed the same, but technically, that's a Fast Pack equipped Valkyrie, which as you mentioned is only used in space. Armored VF-1 Valkyries are stuck in Battroid mode.
Still, pretty cool video!
And the only fastpack capable of atmospheric flight are the VF-11, YF-17 (VF-17), YF-21 (VF-22)
I do recall at least one scene where an armoured vertitech launched from earth like a rocket into outer space. The heavy armoured Battleoid was only seen once and that was a space scene.
Hey, let's not be over critical here folks. Yes, understand if you are going to do something do it right, but hey, its been awhile sense I've seen any do something for Macross
@@ericwilliams538 It’s still a cool video, but it’s also a reminder that not everyone understands the lore, which is why I’m bringing up the inability of fastpacks for atmospheric flight.
There's just something amusing about the detached power cable head firing rockets just before hitting the ground, when that cable's used to power a participant of a battle that usually causes mass amounts of damage where the cable head hitting the ground is insignificant in comparison.

A shiver of youth time ran over my back, thank you so much for the effort. Nevertheless I might add one tiny suggestion without being seen as a critique: the use of motion blur would greatly add in scenes with various velocities, like the take off or the mountain flyby...
Motion blur definitely, more environment atmo, and adding some secondary animation on the fighteers in formation or just while flying, they flying on a rail at the moment. But great job!
When I was playing Ace Combat Infinity I never stopped hoping they'd drop a special Super Valkyrie plane, or a skin/livery for the f14 variants at least.
I can imagine a Ronald D Moore style series from just this. How awesome would that be?!

The battloid backpack section, which sits between the tailfins in the regular airplane mode (not the super mode, with all the booster and fast packs added) is upside-down.

In fact, all the Battle Pods are primarily used as ground assaults units when down on the planet surface, their boosters would act as jump jets to cover short distances or traverse very high and rough terrain, only in space, they are used to manoeuvre or fly in very short-range engagements.

A very long time ago I was shopping in a K Mart and just for fun I went over to the toy section .
( this was back when both Robotech and transformers was popular ).
I was just looking and wondering what was available at that time .
Well I found a toy labeled as a " Autobot Transformer" " BUT " hears the thing it was a large VF- 1 Valkyrie with the Jolly Roger skull and cross bones 0 0 1 and on the back of the box it showed all 3 pose positions all of them from Robotech . There was no other markings as for " Autobots or Decepticons .
I do wish that I had the extra money to get it but food was the priority .
If you can make the the missle effects more like the original it would be flawless. Top tier animation!

There have been multiple “skull leaders” in Macross, likely a homage by the in-universe pilots to the original. Though IIRC only SDFM and Frontier had their flight commanders call themselves “Skull Leader”

Great video, but it bugs me to no end that on the Fighter mode, the Portion that forms the backpack on the Gerwalk and Bathroom, is in the wrong orientation. In fighter mode the Portion between the twin tails is supposed to be flat, and the verniers at the back are supposed to be folded under on the front side.
Thank god someone else noticed this! I don't understand how you'd get this wrong when doing the 3d models.

Sht just happens. Sometimes you’re just too tired to see anything wrong. Sometimes you just don’t see it. That’s why having others look at your work is important; They may catch something that slipped through the cracks.

Fantastic! What a great way to showcase the mighty VF-1!
Not to be an arse, though, but the "backpacks" on a number of the Valks are on "upside down". It's most obvious on the orange machine (which looks like a D but has a single seat cockpit - interesting!) at 0:41, but it's also very obvious on the two "Skull Squadron" aircraft taking off in formation.
Oddly, the blue machines that go from Gerwalk to fighter right as the Skulls whiz by have the backpack done properly.
Why?
Overall, though, totally awesome, and you should be very proud of it!
This looks relay cool. I hope to see and updated video. Like seeing more details on say like the thrusters and seeing the feet move with in fighter mode when they make maneuvers. Other than that you did a great job.
