Two absolutely lovely guests, I had a blast watching this replay! They always make me want to get back to some backlist fantasy, but still the new shiny releases keep distracting me lol. Great discussion!!

Thank you, Esmay! They have some interesting backlisted reads in common while still keeping up with what’s current. Happy reading! 💜

What a great chat!! Its such a green flag when men will pick up female authors just as easily as male... And I loved hearing so many author names that are rare to be discussed on booktube. I actually have two Melanie Rawn trilogies on my shelf (Dragon Prince included!) that my husband has been telling me to read forever, and this might have been the push I needed! Though there's a lot to like about modern fantasy, more classic 90s work just hits different!

Thank you so much! I'm glad this inspired you to read those series, and I agree that 90s fantasy hits differently. Happy reading!

Lynn Flewelling is another great female author from the 90s and early 2000s but sort of forgotten. I loved her book The Bone Done’s Twin. It has that gothic horror feel to it.

An under the radar female author I read years ago is Hellene Wecker. Her famous book is The Golem and the Jinni, a historical fiction/fantasy novel set in 19th century NYC and deals with themes around immigration and assimilation of culture and identity and what it means to be human/part of a culture.

I always appreciate hearing about under the radar female authors. Thank you for recommending Hellene Wecker!

Seems like everyone is team Mat for WoT, except me. 😅My favourite character is Verin Mathwin.

I've never heard about that character, but I've never read the series 😅

@@Johanna_reads She''s sort of a side character. Her character development arc through the series was amazing to me though.
