- I could not find a dealer or auto specialist near me that could install a rear hitch within a month so I searched the interwebs for a how-to video and found nothing for the 2019. So here is my attempt at a video to install a factory tow hitch for the trailhawk. I am only using the hitch to tow my bikes so there is no wiring harness installed in this video.
Let me know if you have any questions in the install in the comments below. It's super easy to do once you know where the clips and screws are and prob took 3 hrs to work it out. Hopefully takes you only an hour or 2 with this video.

Thanks Random Guy! Got the new hitch installed thanks to your instructions. Didn't read all the comments but at 2:53 the third screw is 7mm. The other two are 8mm. Removed the taillights. Got the 7mm screws loose from above with long extensions. Backed the vehicle up onto my ramps for easier access.
Taking the tail lights out and the top trim piece above the rear wheels eliminates the need to take out all of those white clips. The bumper pulls out as one piece just below the tail lights.
Would you add a link of where you bought this hitch please. Aslo would love to see a video on how to hook up the electrical!
Thanks for making this! It made the install on my 2019 Trailhawk much simpler. I added the wiring as well, so a little more work on top, but still not too bad. The 2019+ Trailhawk models it appears you only have to get a short harness that connects to plugs behind the driver's rear interior panels and then have the dealer flash the computer to enable the plugs.
Any instructions on installing the harness? I've looked everywhere and can't find any info on installing the short harness.
If you buy the factory hitch, I think it comes with some rudimentary illustrated instructions that show which interior panels need to come out. Basically it's the tail lights, hatch door sill, the floor panel behind the rear seat, and the driver's side interior panels in the trunk.
Also I can confirm now that the short harness worked on my 2019 once the dealer flashed my vehicle and enabled the tow module.
do after i addd the tow wire harness i gotta have the dealer do something with my computer ? newb here, thanks.
@@johnadams8371 Yes they have to enable the tow module electronics and flash the computer to tell the vehicle that it has the factory tow package now.
@@Firehawk989 did they argue/make it hard on you for you installing it yourself when trying to get it flashed? like did they refuse in anyway to flash due to them not installing it?
Good job on the video. Just installed my hitch using it. Props to you for doing all that with a camera. Although I can’t figure out where the last white clip goes. I got six in and don’t remember where the last one went.

Can you please share with me the part number for the one you fitted? I am having a very hard time talking with dealers and finding the right one. Thanks for the video. I'm in the process of doing this but can't seem to get the park assist module out (little black box). How did you remove it from the plastic holder?

What hitch did you install? Read about some not sticking out far enough.
Hey we are trying to install the mopar hitch without wiring. We have completed all of the steps (clips bolts and screws) that you did however the top part of the bumper won’t come off. According to yours and mopars directions the bumper should just fall back. Any advice?

Got them out and installed the hitch. Now i just need to re-torque the bolts to 165nm before towing anything. Thanks for the vid!

I used your video to install a hitch to my 2020 Trailhawk. I'm now wondering about towing capacity. I've found that there are many different answers to this question. How much towing capacity do you get? I've called the service dept. at my dealer, and he looked it up via my vin number and said that I get a 4,500 pound capacity. I'm still wondering the accuracy of his answer.
Yeh, I was told 4500 from the genuine hitch receiver but I also heard people say there are 2k lbs cheaper ones. I got mine from the dealer so I trust 4500 is correct
If it's genuine Mopar, it's 4500 for the V6 and 4000 for the 2.0 turbo.

The Jeep dealership has had our Cherokee Trailhawk for 8 days now trying to install the wiring harness. I guess the car's computer does not like it at all and they don't know how to fix it. Apparently they have the Chrysler engineers on the case. I have me doubts about that though.
I've read a few similar situations to yours. I just traded in my 17 Cherokee (with a hitch) for a 19 Compass Trailhawk and discovered today the crazy cost/customization to get one installed. It's a big bummer!

@@johnadams8371 Well Nissani Brothers screwed up and didn't do one of the required updates and we got onto LA freeways and the Jeep wouldn't go above about 35 MPH with the throttle mashed to the floor. By the grace of God we found another dealership in the valley that was able to flash the update for us and it's been perfect ever since.
What's towing capacity on a limited
depends on your engine. v6 is 4,500 lbs 4cy w/turbo is 4,000 and i wouldn’t tow with just the 4cy. i’d just use it for bikes and stuff
