Honestly i would have added some flair to gatekeeper.
He already has a great personality, so i would add some adornment to the armor and give him a shoulder cape with the coat of arms of Garreg Mach, or a full fur cape for those winter nights.
I mean i am not complaining they kept him to his loveable basic basicness look.......but come on, give the man some bling, he deserves it
The Gatekeeper really added a lot of life to my first playthrough so I was lowkey expecting the popularity lol

Lets not forget when the empire attacked, he literally states he will not allow one of them to get through the gate, WHICH HE DOES!! Gatekeeper is the sigma male we inspire to be.
The moment I met that NPC the first two times, I knew I was going to enjoy all of his dialogue in the game.
Even the developers must have realized that they struck gold by having a nod to it with Three Houses' DLC that had another version of the Gatekeeper... the Abysskeeper.
I have the DLC and still haven't played it.

I refuse to say Gatekeeper is generic. He is the best boy, who is the most supportive and wonderful guy. He wins your heart in just a handful of words. Most people who tell me to play three houses have told me they wish they could marry him.

@@TheRealAdachi when I got the merc whistle on my third playthrough, I wanted to give it to gatekeeper. When I learned that you can only give it to units you have A-rank support with and gatekeeper was locked to C-rank, my disappointment was immeasurable and my day was ruined 😢
6:15 That's actually a DIFFERENT person than the usual Gatekeeper! Gatekeeper is present in all storylines unless you support the empire, then when the Empire takes the Monastery then Gatekeepers brother who fights for the Empire will take his place.

last year was the first time i got really big into FEH and CYL, and once i learned Gatekeeper was an option, and especially after midterm results, my previous plan of supporting my popular favourites went straight out the window. I am proud to have been a part of Gatekeepers meteoric rise through the ranks
I voted for him because I wanted to see what would happen. I smiled because he not only got first, but also became playable in 3 hopes due to people voting for him so much that he got the first place position.

Imagine if they did a final fantasy thing like where Cloud from FF7 was actually just an unnamed soldier in Zach's story, becoming the main character once the torch was passed.

In a world filled with unique and special characters isn't a generic everyday guy the most unique of all.
Personally I was the one who voted for Marth for chose your legend but I absolutely love Gatekeeper and I was happy he had won. Probably one of the best NCP in my opinion

In Three Houses, yes Gatekeeper is unplayable however Gatekeeper is actually a hidden playable character within Three Hopes (which is a game that is considered as an alternative canon storyline) by doing a simple task: Complete a new game with any house, then new game plus that save with a different house, then new game plus again on that save with the last house. He is then unlocked after a couple of chapters. It's fanservice that right in my eyes.
I have a sudden need to get Three Hopes.

You know if I were to describe Gatekeeper in my eyes, I'd say he's like the Fire Emblem equivalent of the Ichiraku Ramen owner from Naruto. He's not plot important or even part of the supporting cast, he's just a guy making a living and does his job while treating our MC with kindness and respect while giving life observations and cool banter.
Gatekeeper ain't one of my *absolute* favorite characters in FE (I do like the guy though), I see why a lot of people do have him as one of their favorites.
Still kinda believe his surge in votes in CYL were basically a merge between 70% people who genuinely like him/want him to win & 30% the memes.
My only small gripe with his Heroes implementation was the fact that they didn't give this guy an actual name. If the dude's this popular beating Marth, Chrom, and Eirika in votes, I'd assume they would give him an official one.
So will the Abysskeeper win next CYL though?

Gatekeeper is great! My favorite of his lines is “she’s the cream of the cream!” I didn’t even know he showed up in the Constance S support.

Played feh again for the first time since launch 2 days ago, got the 5 star gatekeeper on a summon by sheer luck and was DELIGHTFULLY bewildered. Immediately went to search about him and now I'm also a verified gatekeeper stan, I would die for this dude.

Gatekeeper gets replaced by his brother if you chose a certain route. Because the og is…well you know.
Gatekeeper also forms a friendship with Abysskeeper throughout the game.

It’s surprising how much life Gatekeeper brought to it. Sort of reminds you how flat or unfleshed out the world can be on its own, despite how much lore there is and how lively the characters are. That’s partly because gatekeeper considers Byleth as a person, not a vessel nor an idol.

i think the line he said in the crimson flower route about the older twin heavily implies that he's a different gatekeeper that's there to replace the gatekeeper we previously knew... which is pretty awkward when you love the gatekeeper, even though they're functionally the same as NPCs, which one do you love?

The thing with gatekeeper, is that, I just played the game for the first time, talking to everyone, and I just talked to gatekeeper, every time. And every time, he is just so good, and then, I discover everyone else also agrees. That's the thing, everyone liked gatekeeper on their own, and then everyone went together and unity was achieved.

We all know about the man, the myth, the legend: Javcav. But does anyone remember Illussion the Mist? The chad Illussion Soldier that appeared in GhastStation/FaerGhast's SoV Playthrough and absolutely wrecked house in Slade's Chapter?
I remember playing through Fates Revelations using a hacked Lancer Corrin named after the chad Illussion and all of the Special Prisoner Units in honor of that gigachad and had lots of fun.

I had no idea this guy was so popular?! I downloaded FEH today and I had the choice among choosing him and 3 other characters and when I saw his picture with the animals I was like, "I want him!" Then when I saw his name was Gatekeeper I was wondering what the dude's actual name was and now I'm here. 😂 I like him even more now. ❤
To be honest I have no idea who this guy is (cause I only played 6, 7, and 8). But if a character who you never saw in battle then theres hope for Mark the first ever tactician in fire emble
P.S: I remembered that Bramimonds face is a reflection of Mark soooooooo HE'S TECHNICALLY IN THE GAME BOYS
