In my opinion, as someone who has a huge appreciation for film and art as a whole, I don't think you're elitist in the least for demanding more from your art. Going to "non-black" hollywood films, if you look at the current state of mainstream films, they are, for the most part, soulless, corporate garbage. Despite that, however, a lot of these films still make a lot of money. Regardless of race/community, I find we live in an era where the consumer is in many ways, at fault (to a degree), for the products that are being cranked out. Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending corporations of course, but this is why we have terms like "mindless consumption. I'll say one thing for them. They give you a plethora of choices which seems to be anathema in America these days. " Representation and sensibilities " notwithstanding. Which is almost unheard of in America now. If we weren't so concerned with how we looked in "media" who knows what could be accomplished. How ridiculously sensitive we've become.
Respectfully, we are so desensitized that my concern is precisely the lack of sensitivity we have to what we take in. It's essentially the whole point of the channel. And I respect your difference in opinion, but I do think that how we look in media is an echo of a bigger problem.
My ex was in a movie called "The Wizard 20Twenty" on Tubi and I say watch it for the music. The music was very well produced. Despite anything one could say about my ex she definitely is talented. The girl can sing lol. The entire cast and creators are from #CHICAGO and they all make music.
Very well said. I wish that I could meet you and work with you on my projects. You seem very helpful and onow what you're discussing on art. I'm lost and want to give up. But listening to this give me just a small glimmer of hope. Thanks I hope you bring more insight for movie making. I want to know where to plant a seed so it can grow.
That's very kind! I am still working out how to connect with artists in a more meaningful way but opening up memberships may be the best option (still figuring out the process to rollout) but should be online by my next video.
Tubi is essentially the "Drive In Theater" of Streaming. I honestly hope that future black filmmakers learn from their mistakes when working on a Tubi production
This video feels like a solid response to the one that came after cause it’s what I immediately thought about as the alternative to the big studios and white audiences not choosing to view Black stories by Black creators. “Let’s FUBU it then.” This is what happens when we FUBU it…🤦🏾♂️
I watch some movies and shows on Tubi, but I don't think I've ever watched an original film from them. I definitely judge the cover picture and the title and decide that way. I am usually 99% accurate with it. Lmao 🤣
The entire "it's all about the money/ blame capitalism" idea is a smokescreen. It completely discounts what may be a MULTI-TRILLION dollar "industry" (or better yet, operation) called PROPAGANDA. (usually run by the military complex) I would like you to incorporate the word propaganda into your vocabulary, which would start with reading some Edward Bernays. p.s. I'm a fan of your content!!
Tubi is better than Netflix. Netflix has erotic passion flix movies and Dave Chappelle / Louis CK/ bad 'documentary' having ppl mock/undermine abusive behavior towards wmn
All imma say is...TUBI is owned by the same company that owns Fox, and just like how Fox got its start with a predominantly black audience before abandoning them by by canceling black shows...same thing with TUBI....I stopped watching when I learned this.
There's a WIP movie on Tubi called Bars. It's not the best, but - in the world of its genre - it's easily in the upper 50%, and - like all WIP movies - there are some great emotional moments and plenty of solid exploitation nonsense.
Hopefully, this flood of DIY trash will only raise the value of professional, intelligent work-basically, drive up subscriptions to the Criterion Channel. Classical, canonical quality will become the new moat, even more effective than price.
I do feel like a part of this take centers white (and other non-Black) people a bit too much tbh? Like I want us to have a higher plethora of well-done and well-produced movies by us and featuring us because *we* deserve it end of. Not at all because a non-Black might turn it on and see one of these movies, show a complete lack of critical thinking skills lol, and ridiculously think that a Tubi movie represents us wholly.
The issue isn't so much availability, more so than the lack of pride and talent among those making the films. Some of these people should be embarrassed at the level of quality of these films they are putting out. And I have seen better work on youtube. It is especially odd when in this era of "representation" and "DEI" you got black folks setting such a low bar for their own actual "representation" of their own ideas and talent. And this is in the context of a people who created jazz, blues, disco, rock and roll and so forth all during segregation. This is ridiculous. And the roots of all this in my opinion go back to the 70s exploitation era, followed by the 90s gangster rap era, with the difference being that now black people who are in the industry and have the talent are not even trying to promote an indigenous black film or entertainment industry. So random individuals are left to their own devices to make whatever they can, but what happened to the talent that used to exist even with the poverty or lack of resources? Or to put it another way, what happened to all the talented black singers that used to exist in large numbers decades ago and why don't we seem that same level of talent today? What changed?
You're making an interesting point here - though I'd be careful of painting DEI and representation POV as negative since they are tools, not the cause of the lower quality issues. part of the problem is in fact what is accepted by the consumers. When jazz, disco, and rock and roll were at their inception, the standard for talent was at an all time high. The investment in the arts was also HUGE so you couldn't just put anything out in the world and get praise back. The audience was primed for GOOD because the effort and discipline and talent level was GOOD. But now, people don't have to do much to get praise. They don't have to work all that hard to make noise - and unfortunately, the most degenerate stuff can garner the biggest audience. Talent is not rare, skill and development is. Pursuing excellence, being excellent takes time and most people don't care to take that time.
@@TiffanyByrdHarrisonAppreciate the feedback. The point about DEI and representation is that those things are about white media putting a lot of effort into symbolism (black snow white/black elves/black little mermaid) as opposed to actually putting resources and effort into nurturing new black talent and ideas. But on the other side, black people themselves are not taking pride in their own talent and creativity as they did in the past and no, when jazz and blues were created it was a bunch of poor black folks in the South doing what they liked and the society looked down on them because it was the height of jim crow. Which is truly what representation is about, where you actually have a distinct culture and tradition and being portrayed faithfully vs stereotypes and lies. Unfortunately, right now the culture has slid into the gutter and that is what these Tubi movies represent and unfortunately it is a true representation of where things are. And that slide into the gutter started with blaxpoitation and accelerated with the rise of gangster rap to where things are today. And this applies across the board from movies to music.

Respectfully, we are so desensitized that my concern is precisely the lack of sensitivity we have to what we take in. It's essentially the whole point of the channel. And I respect your difference in opinion, but I do think that how we look in media is an echo of a bigger problem.
"There's LITERALLY one for everyone."
No, there isn't.
lol fair enough
My ex was in a movie called "The Wizard 20Twenty" on Tubi and I say watch it for the music. The music was very well produced. Despite anything one could say about my ex she definitely is talented. The girl can sing lol. The entire cast and creators are from #CHICAGO and they all make music.
i’ll check out the music!
“Let’s FUBU it then.” This is what happens when we FUBU it…🤦🏾♂️
Twist that we inevitably saw coming😂
You know its true!
I watch some movies and shows on Tubi, but I don't think I've ever watched an original film from them. I definitely judge the cover picture and the title and decide that way. I am usually 99% accurate with it. Lmao 🤣
LOL that cover picture be giving it away, especially if there's guns and lingerie in the picture
U did a good job.. I really enjoy ur ideas
Thanks for watching!
Best/Worst Tubi Movie --> Absence of Innocense that one raunchy sex scene IYKYK...LOL!!!! Cringy and Funny ASF at the same damn time...
yikes! I had to fast forward through soooo much 🌽 I almost didn't stick with this research 🥴
@@TiffanyByrdHarrison CHYLE!!!! When I say I fell all the way out....I was SHOOKETH!!!
Hi Tiffany, I'm new to your channel and I love the the way you articulate the AA perspective in a truly accurate and non biased way. Keep it up!✌🏿
The entire "it's all about the money/ blame capitalism" idea is a smokescreen.
See now...these streaming services are out of control
All imma say is...TUBI is owned by the same company that owns Fox, and just like how Fox got its start with a predominantly black audience before abandoning them by by canceling black shows...same thing with TUBI....I stopped watching when I learned this.
I won’t lie…prom night 2 brought me to tubi…that should reinforce your point though all the same.
HAHAH i feel like I saw that thumbnail
Can someone talk about Beauty in Black because ai, Tyler Perry's scripts are starting to be weird and too much
starting?
@ftgjt21 so this has always been the case?
Tyler EXHAUSTS me.
He has a $1 Billion with filming studios with all the props, costumes, virtual FX and make-up/hair, so he can make anything he wants... sadly.
Even with streaming there needs to be some sort of filter so certain films can't go on Tubi
There's a WIP movie on Tubi called Bars. It's not the best, but - in the world of its genre - it's easily in the upper 50%, and - like all WIP movies - there are some great emotional moments and plenty of solid exploitation nonsense.
Honestly I don’t know how i popped up on your channel but not just as a filmmaker but as someone who watches tubi. I agree!
What type of films do you make
I hate Gerald fr hey Arnold when they had a cool black girl with tarantula
Have some engagement, algorithm.
Thank you very much!
@@TiffanyByrdHarrison thanks for the insightful video. Also, Hey Arnold goes so damn hard.
@@AnimusBehemothso 👏🏾 hard 👏🏾
The rachetness on Tubi in terms of subject matter and technical aspects is really bottom of the barrel.
0:20 What movie is this? 😂
Dear God Why 🤦🏾♂️
I looove that film!!!
Nah im lying but doesnt "Dear God Why" sound like Tubi
