BEEN WATCHING THIS VIDEO MULTIPLE TIMES A YEAR FOR 12+ YEARS... ... and it's still the MOST BEAUTIFUL, MOST GRACEFUL, MOST "ARTISTIC" FLY CASTING VIDEO I'VE EVER SEEN. HOW does one EVER get TIRED of watching "ART"? Answer: NEVER. Chris - THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU... -Mark Vogt | VOGTLAND OUTDOORS
hey there chris I absolutely love this video. I got to say it is Inspiring to see someone able to cast with such precision and excellence. I'm a first year spey caster but a longtime single hand caster. and watching your form, technique, and your stops are all right on. keep it up! maybe one day you can make a trip to alska and we can do some monster coho salmon fishing it'd be nice to fish with someone else that actually knows how to use a flyrod. how might I become sponsored by LOOP tackle?
Great casting! Between you and Stephan and Julian it's hard to imagine how Loop found so much talent! I just hit my rod tip if I try to cast a 6" loop like that lol....I guess that's my stop not being not as good....
I use a 6 weight line on one of my fast action 5 weight rods. The heavy line helps load the rod for short casts. Its perfectly ok if you can cast well with it.
Hello Jim, the "pointiness" and tightness of Christopher's loops are exaggerated by the viewer's perspective. Note how he casts with his rod canted outward at roughly 45 degrees from his body. When filmed/viewed from the side, the loops appear narrower because the line is actually unfurling at an angle to the viewer - i.e. the loop is not unfurling with the top half directly above the bottom. It is, in fact, a lopsided loop. Don't get me wrong - his casting is excellent. However, the side-on angle of some of the filming distorts things.
Hello Jon, I wasn't "high" when I wrote that, and I'm sure you'll agree there's no need to be insulting, regardless of how much you might disagree with my comment. Let me put the crux of my argument another way: If I am standing on the bank opposite Christoper, watching him while he casts up and down the river, and he proceeds to cast with his rod canted at roughly 45 degress to his body, and the loops he creates proceed to unfurl at roughly 45 degrees to his body, the loops (viewed side-on) will appear narrower to me than if I was to observe them from either behind or in front of Christopher as he casts. This is a fact, and it relates to distance, perspective and depth perception (i.e. how we observe a three-dimensional world). Do not misunderstand me; I am not trying to diminish Chrstopher's obvious exemplorary abilities as a fly caster. I am merely trying to account for why his loops appear so impossibly narrow (or "tight") in much of the video. It is due to the camera's perspective.
@Average Loops glad someone realizes this. His casting is obviously impeccable but the angle of the rod with a side view is what makes it look like that.
Yea that is true about the appearance of "tightness" of the loop! As you correctly pointed out as a result of the 45° angle of the rod Stroke!.......but how do you achieve the "needle point" as it unrolls......?? Searching for the explanation.....!! Appreciate anyone's input..!
Curious, are you using a double taper or weight forward ? I ask because I wish to understand if either choice has an advantage in terms of smooth " hump or wave free" unrolling of the line? Your smooth, straight unfolding pointed line is so beautiful! thanks just jim
If you're searching for the perfect loop have a look at the film a river runs through it at the start of the movie there are some amazing fishing scenes namely casting the perfect loop with Brad Pitt they are truly stunning..
Some rods works better with higher classed lines. Try and if it works for you it´s ok. I know people that use lines up to two classes higher then the rod because it works better for them.
ahh gimmiepig, you have all the understanding of a dog watching television.....I would say you are a 10¢ mouth .....but that would be overrated.......!! Notice the line is always tight between his left hand and first stripper guide. Watch closely, his stop is both high and hard followed by the immediate relaxation of his rod hand. All done with a smoothness that results a line unrolling with a very narrow point. Observe the top and bottom line, they have a lack of "waveyness". The shape of the unfolding line will shout how successful your casting style is. Do not let it escape your notice just how short and compact his casting stroke is. I am sure you noticed his stroke, at times is more vertical then horizontal.......all the while the line is "smoothly" reaching amazing distances. So, stop and closely examine the video. Tear it apart and learn. thanks for sharing the vedio.......!
+Jim Knowles I agree man, the haters here are morons. This is like a free lesson in casting, all the angles covered. And to the people saying he smugly watching "his rod", that is what you do. That is how you get better.
"So, stop and closely examine the video. Tear it apart and learn." I used to try and do this back in the days of dial up internet - was a real nightmare
@JonEirikBrobak that was a bit of an exaggeration, but we all know that it's harder to cast bulky flies. I want to see casting being done by someone who is actually trying to catch a fish, not someone whipping a bare leader around.
I agree that it's pushing "loop" down our throats but atleast it's well arranged. Good music, cinematography, no talking etc. Just lots of beautiful casts with great scenery and well placed soundtrack. I find it inspiring
So elegant… Stunning!

Everytime I think I'm getting good I come back to this to knock me down a peg or two.

great casting chris enjoyed this film cant wait to fish
Wow! Poetry!
Crazy good! I'd take lessons from this guy anytime! Just beautiful technique.
Thanks Chris. Nice website as well.
I just subscribed, hell yes. I noticed you bring your anchor point further to the rear than I do when you're doing the roll cast. Incredible video.
Well it's a spey tho not really a roll cast
@@Flies_the_limit
Thanks Chris. Have the Evotec 9ft for a 5 F. Rio Gold is good on it as is the Multi in a 5, when you get a bit more line out.
Great casting!
for some reason, this video is epic. It relaxes me aswell
this is called launch! many compliments regards john
Bullet loop!!

I have a fly reel that came with 6 weight fly line and i have a 5weight fly rod, should i change the line or would it be ok?
Great casting! Between you and Stephan and Julian it's hard to imagine how Loop found so much talent! I just hit my rod tip if I try to cast a 6" loop like that lol....I guess that's my stop not being not as good....
Bet it's better now. :-)
Perfect dancer!
real nice perfect loop. What rod do you use ? and what line please
Robert
awesome
Great video. Can anyone tell what the title of the music is?
If this doesn't make you wanna fly cast, nothing will.

Magic.
Hi Chris. Have you been sent any of the new loop lines to try?
Awesome!
Best Regards,
Tellis
Christopher, curious, how do you achieve that consistent "pointed loop" on all your casts??
thanks Jim

Average loops, no problem.......true, but also his line is so smooth and free of humps and waveyness......he does not shock the line!
@Average Loops glad someone realizes this. His casting is obviously impeccable but the angle of the rod with a side view is what makes it look like that.

I wish I had half his casting talent!
How's it coming along? Your comment was 5 Years ago I assume you've made drastic improvements:)
I try to make casting movies like you but I can't see the line. You use aspecial line ? or color line ?
Curious, are you using a double taper or weight forward ? I ask because I wish to understand if either choice has an advantage in terms of smooth " hump or wave free" unrolling of the line? Your smooth, straight unfolding pointed line is so beautiful!

If the balance feels good as is don't change. Larger diameter line in smaller eyelets may degrade the line but not for awhile.
If you're searching for the perfect loop have a look at the film a river runs through it at the start of the movie there are some amazing fishing scenes namely casting the perfect loop with Brad Pitt they are truly stunning..

song is Nara by E.S Posthumous
Is it still SA making the new lines?

What´s the song???
Christopher is good!

Do you mean leader?
I would love to learn casting with this guy, ahah
1:52 Magic!
why would he want a 10 inch streamer on the end?
poesion!
I wonder if he wears Loop underpands? Nevertheless, this is a masterpiece as the boy exercises the cast's.

Think he found it
Chris ure loops are so fuckin' HOT! ;) peace
Are you going to fish or just keep casting???
That would have scared them off.
Guess I am the only asshole that sees a bunch of tails in the leader... esp the cast at 1:14.
Das auch mein Wurfstiel, ohne langes rumgewedel.
