I feel so bad for yall.... 2004 280k on my 6.0 no issues, Previous owner I know personally, no problems. Of course its studded, deleted, tuned, Upgraded Mishimoto radiator, tubes, Coolant filter, battery cables. I run Shell Rotella, ALWAYS Motorcraft filters. with the 6.0 you need to understand Preventative maintenance . If u wanna abuse ur truck, buy a 7.3 PS.
I guess the 6.0 have most of the issues with that egr.... Thankfully in FL there's no inspections. So this stuck been running 5" strait pipe most its life.
    I gotta say I LOVE me 6.0

My dad has had 2 now, an 03 that he got at a small dealership that wasn’t the greatest to get the truck. He soon found out why it was traded cuz the egr cooler went out on him after that. Well he got that fixed and didn’t have any issues until he hit 200k, then it was about every 20k or so something would go wrong, and we would know something was goin to happen when the truck would run fantastically, perfectly smooth and would be getting 18 to 22 mpg. One of those times the oil cooler went out and another a seal went out causing a no hot start. Well after all that. We just got rid of that truck with 280k on it and have an 04 with 160k on it now, that we got that was a different story, instead of being thrashed, it was driven like a grandpa never went over 55. And when we went to go look at it, that truck was sitting inside the garage while his brand new f 250 6.7 king ranch sat outside. The owner didn’t even let my dad drive it.We eventually got the truck, with just over 100k. Fixed some things like the boots were coming off cuz it just wasn’t driven. Fixed some glow plugs and injectors. And that truck was fantastic, until 150k, when the truck decided it no longer wanted to be nice and self destructed the oil cooler. Dad replaced that with stock and bulletproofed the EGR cooler. Have had no problems since with the engine. The trans in both truck had zero problems which is probably the most underrated part of the truck.

Great Video!!!! Looking forward to more on your awesome 6.0...
Likely the oil cooler was clogging with old nasty coolant and the EGR cooler was clogged with carbon and the heat just compounded and caused the HG to blow and then by the previous owner just pouring water into the cooling system for months and months all that rust and goo clogged everything even more. Super clean this area and put a new screen assembly in the bottom of the oil pit before you put the new oil cooler in.
You don't even have to stud these. Change the oil cooler every 100,000 miles and only use OEM, flush the coolant every 3-4 years max and use only ultra premium motorcraft and add a coolant filter.
delete the EGR by welding plates over the current EGR cooler tube--you will need to reprogram the PCM so this doesn't confuse your truck. Keep the current EGR cooler assembly in place to keep strength in the exhaust pipes from cracking via vibrations.
Change the engine oil every 4,000 miles and add the reinforcement plate to the back of your high pressure oil pump to keep the rear tube from blowing off. Replace the HPOP o-rings every 100,000 miles.
you must change all the fuel filters on a regular basis and only use OEM filters. Keep your engine clean to aid in keeping dirt out of the engine on future openings, like changing the oil cooler or HPOP o-rings.... Only buy fuel from very busy gas stations. Let these trucks warm up, do not drive them hard...
6.0 is nothing on 7.3, but you can have a decent chance for success with a 6.0 with some basic areas addressed... also keep fresh premium batteries replaced every 36 months or so, even if not needed. I would put in new fuel injectors, OEM only, at 150,000-200,000 miles and all the o-rings on the oil rails and super inspect the fuel injector "cups" down in the head...probably do the FICM at 150,000-200,000 miles(or at least have one handy)...

Crossing my fingers on my 2006 6.0. I put a new FICM, EGR Cooler and one injector. 150,000 miles on it. I've been towing travel trailers up and down the West coast and out to Montana with it the whole time and for the past 7 years a 35 Foot Big Country. No issues since installing the items stated above. But, even if I do have to put $20k into it, it's better than buying a slightly used one for $75k like my Uncle just did, or a new one for $90k !!!!! Obviously not a straight across comparison, because the new ones are so much more capable and luxurious, but I'll stick with the old gal, rather than spending 10% of my retirement on a truck.

Man, mine is such a similar story. Bought an 06 with 34,000 miles for mid to high bluebook because it was mint and such low mileage. Figured I could fix most issues. Well because the mileage was so low, basically every seal was dry rotted. Fixed the front seal, next the rear seal. Next the oil pan seal only to find the bedplate seal started leaking. Also, while all the seals were going, the 7 and 8 injectors had gotten really bad stiction. Next I installed all new and at that point was like shit, now I am stuck. So I had a solutions kit put on it with a new bed plate seal. Will see, have a front end clunk I am now chasing. Endless, but it is almost I cant let it defeat me.....asinine lol. True money pit.

So my story bought a 2005 f250 in a auction claims nothing is wrong it is delivered and won't start... of course. shop tells me problem with high pressure oil system. $1000 to tear down and diagnose. I pass and have it towed home. This is a 16 year old truck 145k miles looks great big lift with 37 inch tire clean inside and out So since I have several years of shop experience I decide I am doing the work myself with the help of a 3 foot step ladder lol. So I only want to go into it 1 time I am changing everything related to high pressure oil. I will also re-stud the cyl. heads on the vehicle because I love a challenge. and probably change the oil cooler and rebuild the turbo because why not at this point and will save myself about 10k plus in labor charges. wish me luck. lol. Yea for sure, It's a money maker though I'm sure I'll make up what I have in it. I'm going to make more vids to help people if they're in the same situation or thinking about getting one of these trucks.

Damn bro sorry to hear about that for real. You got fucked by the guy who sold to ya. Mines been best ever. It’s 2004 and has 276,328 miles as of today but don’t buy shit that’s been mistreated no matter if it has 200 miles or 300k, I can say that cause all I have ever owned was diesel trucks but I did same thing to a mustang I bought. Thought it was great but ended up with a money pit. Get it going how ya like it and it should never give ya another problem.

I love 6.0s but it's hard to recommend one because it's like playing the lottery. They're good motors if maintained properly but they can still have issues. It just depends how much money you have to spend on possible repairs. Also I would just avoid the early year models.

Judging on how you were ragging on it with the tree stump I wouldn’t close your tab just yet. I have an 05 f250 and it hasn’t given me a bit of trouble. Some run better than others and some have more issues than others. That’s not just a 6.0 thing I’ve seen Cummins and Duramax’s, fall apart just as easy. if you treat any diesel truck like it’s indestructible you better have some deep pockets¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The engine was blown when I purchased the truck. The stump thing was more of a joke for the video the truck blew up towing a dump trailer home.

My 06 6.0 has been a dream. Only effed me once but that was honestly my fault for putting a doorman power board in the ficm

    Dude
you have a great outlook on this. You now basically have a new truck, and instead of $80.000 it's only cost you a bit over 20. I think a vechical is worth the use you get out of it.. I subbed. Thanks

The first thing i usually do when buying a diesel is make sure its cold when i start it and when it warms up take the oil cap off while its running and check for blow by.

These trucks are a giant pile of chit.... you can easily drop thousands in repairs in a year, and thousands more the next year.
I never understand people who will spend insane amounts of money on vehicles with notoriously bad reps to bullet proof them.
