Just like the pros do in Hollywood. Alex is a legend without legend status, yet. I got my fingers crossed, I'm sure he'll get far with the quality of music he puts out.
At first glance I thought this was going to be a country cover and I got immediately hyped for “Hey Y’all.” The actual song you gave us was a straight banger, but now I can’t get that idea out of my head and I’m sad it doesn’t exist.
The song is about how devastating infidelity is for the victim, I don't know how that would be comfortably "y'all" shifted. As a former Bible Belt resident, they usually keep that under wraps and argue about it behind closed doors.
@DuskTheBard Isn’t the first line of the song “My baby don’t mess around?” I always thought this song was more about not being able to find joy in a relationship anymore even though there’s still love for the other person. That kind of burnout is universal across genres imo. Also, lots of classic and modern country deals with topics like infidelity. Look at songs like Toby Keith's “Wish I Didn’t Know” or even the queen of country herself with "Jolene." Not a Bible Belter myself though, so I'm no expert.
The blanks (Ted's band from scrubs) did a wonderful slow version of 'Hey Ya!' and yours definitely reminded me of that, for anyone who hasn't heard it I certainly recommend you do. Your fast version was incredible too, somehow you consistently manage to outdo yourself with every video man, keep it up!
If my wife had seen Scrubs at the time, we would have done our first dance to The Blank's version. So. Powerful. And I definitely agree with the parallels.
I'm 40 next year & grew up playing in bands & thriving off of the pop punk scene in the 90s & 2000s. Outcast were huge back in the day, & hearing these two come together in the way you magically make music, fills me with so many emotions, it's hard to explain. I just wanna say 'Thank god for Alex's Mom & Dad' for creating a musical genius for us all to enjoy 👌🏻
Obadiah Parker's cover of this song will always be my favorite after it was played on Scrubs. Captures the lyrics in context really really well. HOWEVER, this song as a late 90's teen angst anthem is 10000% wedding band music and slaps so hard.
Love the cover and the quick stop to Buc-ees! When I was a teenager in a Pentecostal church praise/worship group, a sugar-free Red Bull was a part of my Sunday morning routine - helped to keep the energy up after long Saturday nights gaming and whatnot. All that is to say, I definitely relate with the motivational tool used to inspire/perform this stellar cover!
I get strong Bilmuri vibes from your renditions. You're an incredibly talented individual and I'm happy you have this platform to express yourself. This is perfect for yt.
This is the kind of "cover" that if I heard from some no name band at some random bar I would be absolutely blown away by. To take a given song and warp it so far into basically a new creation that tributes the original and yet make it brand new and totally different.
André 3000 came to my old metalcore band’s show in Atlanta. We asked the venue owner if it was really him and he said “oh yeah! He comes to every show he can! He doesn’t care about the genre, he just Really loves music!” and sure enough he was head banging through our entire set. (Our band was As Animals Eat My Insides if you want to listen to what he was ACTUALLY down to throw down to lmfao) Also went to high school with his nephew, which I always thought he was lying until André came to a school event lmao. Great cover as always Alex. Loved the explanation and process being shown.
Holy moly my guy. This has got to be one of the best made videos I have in a long while. I loved every aspect of this. Your approach. The intro. The flip at the start with it being slow (which was also incredible btw). Everything. Loved it all. HUGE LOVE to the appreciation of an incredible song and adding to it yourself. Liked. Commented. Subbed. Notification Bell. Brother I’m all in. Now to watch your current catalog!!! ❤❤❤
I never truly appreciated this song until I heard the Sleep Token cover of it. Slowing it down made me realise what a well written song it actually is. That being said, I love your sped up version!
Hi Alex, I just wanted to let you know that I really appreciate your longer-form videos. I know they don't get as many clicks as the shorter ones and I probably don't even watch them as often, but as a musician, it's some of my favorite content on RUclips.
Love your work mate. Favorite originals are always a hard nit to crack. Both your versions were great and a brilliant version in their own right. Top effort :)
Love the skill you have on several instruments! Many of us would love to be that skilled on just one :). Keep making these covers, they’re a highlight of our week.
Dude! This was 🔥! If I can make a request, could you do one where you start out in the slower style and then drop into the faster/heavier style right after the first chorus of “hey yah”? Something in me was expecting that to happen. 😅
Everyone is talking about the half-time section...I can totally imagine you playing this part for the first time and it clicking; "This is it!". The bass and drums are soooooo groovy in this song. Great work man.
This is another great rendition of this song, well done. If you're interested, one of my favorite (not very known) artists covered as well, and it's hauntingly beautiful. ruclips.net/video/SCvTC3hasdU/видео.html
Alex I'm so happy to see you reaching 400k! Been here since 50k and I can easily say you're just getting better year after year. You're one of the most talented person I've seen around here and I truly hope you blow up even more. Thanks for the amazing content you're constantly bringing to us!
1:45 let's thank the worship team for leading us through the morning devotional. But do you know who else was OUTKAST by his society? Who really loves you so and don't mess around? Let us turn to the book of Luke, chapter 4n beginning in verse 14...
The slow version is great, that should be made into a full song. It's much better than the original or the sped-up version. Also... skipping past all those Celsius cans at the store to grab a Red Bull? 👎Celsius is so much better than Red Bull -- in taste, in ingredients, in caffeine delivery.
The fact that you could even hear these skills in his early videos, especially the cover of "Came Out Swinging" by the Wonder Years, just shows how amazing the guy is, yet also how much he has refined those skills.
Do a switchfoot cover next! They're doing an "our version" of their breakout album (The Beautiful Letdown) and I'd love to hear your spin on one of those songs.
I don't think there's been a single thing you've made, Alex, that I didn't love. The contrast between these two versions is amazing. And your thoughts on the process are always so interesting to hear!
Obadiah Parker's version is always my downtempo fave, but this fast version is bloody amazing. As always, your arrangements are phenomenal. The riffage! Also, did I see a Tiny Terror? Loved that little lunchbox amp.
This will probably be a really unpopular opinion, but your slow/quiet version at the start is amazing. I'd love it if you did also do a slow version as well.
I don’t comment on videos, hardly ever - but I wanted to comment here and say how big of a fan I am of your work+art, and I think you dominate! Keep shredding Alex (:
I can honestly say I love all three! The original is simply iconic, the slow version gives it an unexpected beauty, and the fast version gives it just a little more angst which just works so well. I also really liked this expose style of choosing which way to go with your cover. Keep up the awesome work!
Andre would probably *love* this take. I remember him referring to The Hives a number of times as an inspiration in The Love Below era. Incredibly inspirational creative process you captured here man. Bummed youtube took so long to put you on my homepage.
love it as always. hey! any chance you might think about releasing every single cover you have ever done, but with no drums? then i can do a drum cover of your song cover and it's like that one movie. i think it was honey i shrunk the kids, but you know what i mean i'm sure!
I read the title and doubted you for the first time. I don't know why... you've never once even came close to disappointing me. I'm sorry, Alex. Won't happen again. 🫡
I love it. Always loved that song. OutKast is one of , what I consider, the last of great r&b/rap/alternative. If the genre is wrong, I don’t care. You never fail to impress sir.
Yep! My thought exactly! Somehow, Alex took this song WAAAY into ska territory and rocked it! Yes, some brass fills woulda pushed it over the top! Kudos, all the same! 🤘
Taking the upbeat out made me cry, beautiful. Then you did the faster tempo, and I was jumping around in my chair bangin my head like I was at a show and wishing I was in a pit.
This guy needs to be a straight up top notch producer. The way he arranges music is freaking amazing. :chefskiss:
agreed. never subbed to a channel so fast. It's like I'm listening to the original but it was made in Illinois.
Producer weeee
what're you talking about? this guy IS a top notch producer
@@fajarputranto6410 ok, to clarify, he needs to paid and have his name out there as the top notch producer he is
Just like the pros do in Hollywood. Alex is a legend without legend status, yet. I got my fingers crossed, I'm sure he'll get far with the quality of music he puts out.
The discussion of the song and your approach to the arrangement was a great addition to the video.
But how's his mic technique?
Agreed, let’s hear more about the production process!
So fun!
How was the proximity effect?
@@grantmorgan1104 I didn't see any pizzas brought there pronto, so I am not sure.
At first glance I thought this was going to be a country cover and I got immediately hyped for “Hey Y’all.” The actual song you gave us was a straight banger, but now I can’t get that idea out of my head and I’m sad it doesn’t exist.
"Hey Ya'll" version when Alex!
we need more likes on this comment so "Hey Y'all" actually happens
ah man now that idea is gonna be stuck in my head now too
The song is about how devastating infidelity is for the victim, I don't know how that would be comfortably "y'all" shifted. As a former Bible Belt resident, they usually keep that under wraps and argue about it behind closed doors.

We were all waiting for the half time drums on the chorus and it was beautiful 😂
Pure serotonin hahaha
How long until this gets named permanently for pop punk
We all knew it was coming and we were here for it
Hits JUST right.
🙌🏻
We need a full cover of the slowed down version the emotion was palpable
ruclips.net/video/c745E7T_Wvg/видео.html
many exist already, thats why he went the other way
@@Rimann93 I wanna gear alex do it tho
Obadiah Parker - Hey Yah (thank me later)
Sleep Token does an amazing slow cover as well. this version is sooooo damn good tho
I usually listen to fast hard hitting music, but that slow version gave me chills.
I could definitely go for a full version of the full version. Reminds me of Ted's cover in Scrubs
If you check out the Obidaia Parker cover of Hey Ya it may be what you're looking for 🤘
@@matty42087yep, Obadiah Parker’s rendition is the OG slow pace version and it HITS. That takes me baaaaaaack.
ruclips.net/video/Gp4lhX2GXmA/видео.html
You've got to check Sleep Token's cover of Hey Ya- one of the most beautiful covers I've ever heard
Was looking for this comment! One of my fav versions
May he rest in peace 😢
❤
I think that was inspired by Jebediah Parker's version, but still good.
If my wife had seen Scrubs at the time, we would have done our first dance to The Blank's version. So. Powerful.
And I definitely agree with the parallels.

I’m right there with you brother! I turn 39 in a few months and this song is dragging right back to my youth! Rock on!
Obadiah Parker's cover of this song will always be my favorite after it was played on Scrubs. Captures the lyrics in context really really well. HOWEVER, this song as a late 90's teen angst anthem is 10000% wedding band music and slaps so hard.
3 completely different versions of one song and they are all great! Just proves how amazing Outkast is and was!
Dude you’re not only an extraordinary musician but also a pretty good damn speaker. Good voice, good vocabulary, clear ideas… Alex you’re THE MAN!
i think he was a worship leader of sorts
You are stupidly talented. Your production and amazing ability to play multiple instruments is honestly insane mate. Keep it up!
I was really digging that slow version. Wow, really took that song to a new level. The fast version was fun too :)
Love the cover and the quick stop to Buc-ees! That slow version is 100% worship song vibes 🎉
Dude, your drumming is incredible! I love how many different layers and rhythms are happening in this song.
I get strong Bilmuri vibes from your renditions. You're an incredibly talented individual and I'm happy you have this platform to express yourself. This is perfect for yt.
the slow part instantly reminded me of Sleep Tokens cover of this song, so magical
Both versions are great but holy man that slow version hits hard. I've honestly never listened to the lyrics until today.
Sweet! Could easily see a band like Millencolin just having a tune like this on an album and no one batting an eyelid.
Spot on!
This is the kind of "cover" that if I heard from some no name band at some random bar I would be absolutely blown away by. To take a given song and warp it so far into basically a new creation that tributes the original and yet make it brand new and totally different.

Great cover as always Alex. Loved the explanation and process being shown.
I really enjoyed listening to your band.
This guy is proof over and over that punk and metalcore are superior genres.
Why did I hear about 15 different musical influences in your fast version. My mind was blown
ok but I REALLY LIKED that first one though! maybe a bonus track?😅
This guy sounds like he should be on every Tony hawks pro skater soundtrack, such a vibe.
Just woke up. Making breakfast. Jamming tf out to this. What a slapper 🔥
WOW, I'm blown away. It's an amazing cover.
Never stop!

I specifically did Ctrl+F and looked for "Sleep Token" ... And you were the only person so far. 100% agree, also ... WORSHIP!
The Blanks from the show "Scrubs" holy cow what a version!!!
Sarah Blasko did an amazing cover on Triple J’s like a version in like 2005. It’s amazing check it out
Alex, my dude. You are a better band than most bands nowadays, holy shit, both versions are brilliant! respect!

Really like the 1st version you did, Soul Coughing vibes!
That arrangement of the "shake it" section was breathtakingly cool. Weird but natural percussion. Amazing.
Love the skill you have on several instruments! Many of us would love to be that skilled on just one :). Keep making these covers, they’re a highlight of our week.
+1
I cant give this enough love. freaking incredible. Both versions you arranged were amazing.
The amount of prep work for these is obviously an insane amount, because the execution is impeccable.
Feels a lot like a Tiny Moving Parts song - think it's the twiddly guitar fills alongside the stop-start drum fills.
Dude! This was 🔥! If I can make a request, could you do one where you start out in the slower style and then drop into the faster/heavier style right after the first chorus of “hey yah”? Something in me was expecting that to happen. 😅
absolute banger

"Hey Ya" is my generation's "Build Me Up, Buttercup." Iconic, upbeat music, depressing lyrics.
How else could you be on drums, guitar, vocal and producing at the same time without a Red Bull??

Sped up version sounds great reminds me of Billy Cobbs punk cover of Hey ya.
I just love that Andre snuck an 11/4 song into the pop music lexicon
I need to pick up a pre-church Redbull now! Love this cover!!
Slow version is literally if Have Mercy covered Outkast. Fast version is literally Set Your Goals. Two different flavors. Two amazing covers.

Hey Alex, can you make a full slow version of Hey Ya! ? XD I need that.
You can't be doing those beautiful slow shots of red bull without a sponsorship bro!!!
This will probably be a really unpopular opinion, but your slow/quiet version at the start is amazing. I'd love it if you did also do a slow version as well.
Okay yeah but that slow acoustic version was also fire.
Needs Horns, Go full Ska. but excellent nonetheless
Red Bull should sponsor this no cap
Heey man great cover!! I was wondering how long do sticks last on an electric kit
182? What a specific number. 😂
another great one! Those drums went hard as hell.

Buccees with the unexpected cameo, that's what's up mah beaver

The Blanks did a wonderful cover of the slow version of this. Your fast one is awesome!
I absolutely need a full of the slow version
Would kill to see this man do a Rise or Die style song with Four Year Strong
ah that pop punk classic 'Hey Ya!'
Always amazed by your writing on each instrument. As a drummer myself, I can barely fathom how you are so good at both drums AND guitar

so its a Hey Ya pop punk remix....
This has to be one of my favourite songs you've made. Holy crap, so fun to listen to, so much energy and spirit. Love it, Alex! Keep it up!
Awesome! You killed it bro’. 🔥🔥
Could this please be put on our spotify soon so I dont have to stop cleaning the house every few minutes to restart it!! 😍

you turned hey ya! to a ska song, that's cool! only thing missing is a brass instrument.
Yep! My thought exactly! Somehow, Alex took this song WAAAY into ska territory and rocked it! Yes, some brass fills woulda pushed it over the top! Kudos, all the same! 🤘
Why is the first version making me tear up, holy guacamole. Please PLEASE release a full recordering of that beautiful version 🙏🏼
Congrats on the big sponsor!
Taking the upbeat out made me cry, beautiful.
Then you did the faster tempo, and I was jumping around in my chair bangin my head like I was at a show and wishing I was in a pit.
How do you always manage to capture every feeling of my youth in your songs. It's extraordinary, you my friend are unique.
Okay what the FUCK is that fill at 5:15
