    I totally agree with you, like there is a saying "everybody needs to chase their dreams, everybody must achieve success so they can understand that it's not everything"

    I believe for a person to become a car designer or generally a designer you need to have a really strong character and also tons of self belief. Its a career choice which until this day and age not too many people understand and thus make it difficult because you have a limited number of people to ask advise from and on the other hand you receive friction from those who don't know about what you are doing.

    I'm 15 and I'm car guy. And I've been drawing since I can remember really. For like 2 years now I hardy want to become a car designer. I feel like my dad would like me to do something like an IT guy or car diagnostic guy more. But I just don't feel like it's something which I'd be happy doing. I don't want to do something I don't love just because it's well paid - you know all my friends already know how much will they earn. When they ask me I don't know because it's not that important for me. When I'm drawing it just feels amazing. I'd love to change the way a lot of these new cars look. But at the same time, I don't want to end up designing a Dacia Logan's side mirror. I know somebody has to do it. But I have higher ambitions. I guess it's not very humble from me to say, but that's how I feel it inside. I wish my future job will be something I won't consider job. You know now I go to school where we learn all subject and everybody around me keeps telling me that now me studying (things I don't really care about) is the best they've ever did because now when they have a job they work every day and do it just so they can pay their bills. Maybe I'm wrong but I still believe you can get a job which will be your hobby - better than studing that nonsense which I'm studying right now. I don't want to be that type of a designer which starts at 9am and ends at 5pm. I want to have a job which I will love and when the 5pm will come, I won't just forget that I'm designer and figure it out the next day at 9am.

      High ambitions are nothing to feel bad about, that's great! If you want to change the way cars look today chances are you'll have to start by designing a side mirror or a front bumper, that's how you get started. You might love it or you might hate it. If you love it, you're all set congratulations you're part of the 20% of people who actually enjoy what they do. I'm sure you'll get there just try different things and see what sticks.

    Well.
    I think we all have to go through the cycle to realise what we want
    Keep pursuing what you want to do
    Things will fall in place, I guess?
    We don't know where we'll end up. It would be too boring if we did. Right?
    Anyways. Nice sketch as always.

    Hey, I might be almost a year late... but yeah, I do agree with you. I've heard so many warnings from my older friends of being a corporate slave leaving you feeling some kind of emptiness, wanting some kind of fulfillment. So even though I took industrial design, I do so much more illustration and graphic design work on my own time, and while I'm still in university I start making my own little projects - publishing webcomics, online store, etc. Might work, might not, but at least I have something when I graduate. Thanks for bringing up the real story, I'm happy to hear that running this channel brings you that fulfillment.. And of course thanks for all the homework help on sketching, you're a hero!!

      @sava dim you can't tell a dark skinned person to change their skin colour to white because genetically it's impossible. You can't tell a person to change their sexuality either because it's genetically hard wired at birth. People don't understand or want to understand this because they conform to the 'norm' whilst others don't. They're ignorant. We survive in groups of like-minded people. You know who you are that's what matters. Find a group of people you can relate to and be yourself around and forget about the rest.

    I'm more or less in the situation you were when younger. Finished my bachelor in industrial design engineering and went traveling for a year afterwards. Got to the point now where i gotta make decisions on what i really want to do. I know for sure I don't want a 9 to 5 job in the future, but my main priority now is getting experience. And that turns out to be pretty tough unfortunately... The competition is huge and that makes me unsure about myself and my skills and find it hard to apply for certain positions. Ultimately i would like to start something on my own, to be free in whatever i decide and please, but I feel the urge to get this first real experience first. Not sure why telling this, but i'm most probably not the only one in this situation. Thanks for the videos and would love to see a video where you explain design projects of your portfolio (as long as you are allowed to by the companies you worked for)

    • @Thesketchmonkey
      @Thesketchmonkey  6 лет назад +1

      First off don't think or focus on the competition, just be the best you can be and focus on improving that. I've spent too much time comparing myself to others only to find that by doing that, you're limiting yourself and what you can do. Portfolio video coming up in the future!

I totally agree with Sketch Monkey chasing your dream will take a lot of sacrifices and people will not like your decisions but at the end of the day you are the one living your life. I love the way he talks and all continue to follow Sketch Monkey's channel. He makes me see possibility in my impossible dream of designing my own car. Thanks pro@Sketch Monkey

    Loved the story. Very relateable since I'm in my bachelor's course in India. One question. How do you keep the bic pen so light? Bic pen after a certain time gets really dark and doesn't do the light strokes. How do you manage to keep it so light in the earlier strokes?

    • @Thesketchmonkey
      @Thesketchmonkey  6 лет назад +2

      Adjust the pressure of the pen with your hand for light strokes, for dark just press hard

    I've always had a passion for car design and tbh it's the thing that drives me forward. I've struggled for years to improve my sketching techniques in the hope that one day I can mark a career like Peter Schreyer. Not sure now it's worth pursuing anymore because the politics of university was bad enough for me. I don't know if it's the same experience for careers as meeting your heroes only to be disappointed by them. I've invested years of my life so i'm not sure what i can do career wise that will give me the same pleasure i thought i would get with car design specifically. I wish there was an answer written and flashing with neon lights. Suggestions for future videos - maybe you can start an interactive competition where you ask people to design something they can upload to Instagram page and you can critique it and give suggestions for improvements on a youtube video.

    • @Thesketchmonkey
      @Thesketchmonkey  6 лет назад

      I still love car design and anything car related. Any investments you've made can be turned into something useful even though it may not be clear now. Sometimes the only way to realize what you don't want to do is to actually do it. I like your suggestion, I'll keep it in mind, thanks!

    I’ve done some research as I’m thinking about going into industrial design school next year. However I don’t want to drown in debt. Some people say you can enter the field without a degree. So my question is: how would you go about learning all the necessary skills without going to school? Is it even feasible? Is it worth going to school?
    A video response would be cool

    • @Thesketchmonkey
      @Thesketchmonkey  6 лет назад

      You know I am crazy enough to think that you can learn whatever you want online these days. I think in many cases college/universities are the biggest scams out there. As I said in the video, nobody ever looked or asked for my degrees or pieces of papers from schools, it was all connections and what value you provide for the company.
      If I need to hire someone for my company, I'm not going to look at your grades, I'm going to look at what you've done whether that's inside or outside of an institution.
      If you want to become a pilot, doctor, brain surgeon etc sure, go to school. For everything else - it's at your fingertips.

    • @Stellar24
      @Stellar24 6 лет назад

      TheSketchMonkey yeah I totally agree with u especially with the cost of school being so high and yet its increasing year after year. The reason why I asked is bc many jobs posts say they require a bachelors degree, but I guess that’s where the connections matter. Thanks for the response

    First of all, I love what you do for people like me. I have been practicing to draw seeing your videos, and I am finding the difference in my work.
    I am in my final year of my Bachelors degree in machanical engineering. I have been working on several projects as a designer for my college, but designer in the sense of engineering design.
    I am really interested in car designing and have been looking for universities for masters.
    Seeing this video did not really change my mind but I would like to know your opinion on doing masters in car design after bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
    I need your opinion because you have been into that industry and I can't contact any person better than you for this.

    • @Thesketchmonkey
      @Thesketchmonkey  6 лет назад

      My opinion on studying car design? That's pretty much this video. If you're set on doing it, by all means go for it. As I mentioned in the video everyone's different, I just know it's not for me.

    If you want to be satisfied and fulfilled- come to Christ the Son of God. The reason for this is that God created us for Himself, for His glory. That is why people seek something great that will satisfy them. This story is an example of how a person sought satisfaction and fulfillment, but is still unsatisfied.
    Jesus Christ gives life; He is life. He took our sins on Himself and died instead of us. He lives and if you want everlastingly-complete life, come to Christ! After that, anything you do for Gods glory- will have everlasting meaning and fruit.
    If you like design, and you will glorify God in that- then it all will have a meaning; but only after you are born again(your nature is changed, which only God can do).
