Freezing a water bottle and using it as a foot roller is a good way to reduce swelling. I second the comments suggesting that you see a podiatrist and look into arch support. You got this!

      Chiming in
Just don't put pressure on it when you use the bottle. Very light roll. They make splits to sleep in that keep your foot at a 90-degree angle, so it's stretching it while you sleep. Or, keep a towel by the bed. Use it to stretch the toes toward you, gently, to stretch the fascia.

Also I really recommend physical therapy. The podiatrist can give you a recommendation for it. My podiatrist did say to stay off it. I told him, "But I'm walking 45 minutes every day, and I HAVE to do it." He shook his head and said, "So, if you broke your leg, would you try and get it better by slamming it with a hammer over and over?" Okay, so I stayed off the foot for a couple of weeks.

    • @EnjoyingLifeMelanie
      @EnjoyingLifeMelanie 8 месяцев назад

@@shannonceleste5557 I didn't have to walk for my job. I just "had" to walk for my health/weight loss. Freaked me out to have to stop. Plus I was doing 3 hours a week taking ballroom dance classes. I tried pedaling a bike, but nearly got hit by a fleeing criminal with five cop cars chasing him. Just ended up staying off of it for a couple of weeks. That helped. When I got my doctor recommended shoes, and the orthotics, it helped, but still painful. I really think it was the physical therapy I did a few months later (I had to ask for the referral) that finally did the trick. It took a while to then build back up to the physical activity level I was before. All in all, it was about six months. I wish I had asked for the P.T. right away. (The ballroom dance class was over before I could resume that.)

My dad makes orthotics and prosthetics. For all his planter fasciitis patients he makes them custom arch supports and has them wear them always while it’s healing. He suggests during showers cutting a pool noodle in half length wise and put it in the bottom of your shower to rest your foot on so your arch stays supported. Hope this helps!

Cane goes on the opposite side to your injury. So if your left foot is bust, use the right hand. This way distributes your weight, allowing you to lean slightly to the right when your left foot is down. Sort of an assisted hobble rather than trying to replace the role of your busted foot in your stride, which just hurts your hand. Hope that helps!

    • @amhomestead3437

In the US the model is like this:
going to the doctor = $$$$
      X-ray = $$$$
meds and medical devices = $$$$
      Follow up = more $$$
+ physical therapy which in my experience has been cheaper to pay out of pocket then through insurance = more $$$$.
This all assumes you can go to the doctor in that your employer gives you permision to leave your job to go to your appointments.
This is in ADDITION of money taken from your salary for Medicare and Medicaid (socialized medical care for elderly, low income and government officials) and potentially money taken from your salary for your "medical insurance" which is all super high deductible and still carries out of pocket expenses (co pays plus imaging and meds isn't always covered by the insurance policy you hold).
So yeah you're broke in both the monetarily and physical sense. Most of the time they don't even fix you.
Moral of the story don't get sick or injured in the US unless you are super rich. These comments from people in other countries always reminds me of how f'ed we are in America. The moment you get sick/injured or cant work, you still have to contribute to the bottom line of our corporate overlords somehow.
I mean women go back to work after six weeks of often unlaid leave after giving birth. Men in most cases get 0 paid leave when welcoming a new family member. This is the american way.😢

Hey, Bea! As someone who waited too long after my planter fasciatis flared up and is currently recovering from surgery - Gastroc Recession / Achilles tendon stretched
And endoscopic planter fasciotomy ( which is essentially "scraping" the fascia) - don't wait too long to get your foot looked at. At the very least you can get into therapy, a waking support boot, or custom orthotics.

**Also, I am a therapist.. I would highly recommend a visit to a PT (should be able to go w direct access to an outpatient PT without a doctor order)- they can really help w some treatments (such as dry needling or ultrasound) and the best exercises to do. I also recommend asking them to do some LOW DYE TAPING… this helped SOOO much when I had PF issues. Tips for better step ups! Use a step platform slightly shorter than a bench. (Sometimes they can be too high and you’ll come down too fast in your foot) also you can set the bench up next to your rack, put the bar up higher and hold onto the bar while you’re doing your step ups which will help you control your step down and balance :)

Word of advice: if you're ADHD is anything like mine then blankets are gonna be hard for you to complete but doable if you just do a little bit of the blanket every day or so and alternate with a different kind of project. Also, your single crochet piece - you just lost stitches on the ends. Suuuuper common for new crocheters and all I can say is just count your stitches, like, all the time to make sure you still have the correct number! Most of all, keep going!! I love seeing your pieces!

I used the peg leg mostly in the kitchen, and the motor carts at the grocery and the scooter for everything else when I broke my ankle. When I had PF I used a boot to sleep in. To keep your feet from pointing during sleep. Fixed it. And it never came back. Took about a month. I completely understand getting down on yourself when you can't move around like you like. Just focus on nutrition, and don't push it. You want to heal properly so you don't have future problems. Happy healing!!!

I vote for a potato galette with your potatoes! I've only used russet/baker potatoes, but I bet it works with Yukon Gold as well. I use Ina Garten's recipe.

About the sourdough: you kinda have to „train“ your sourdough for the kind of flour your gonna use. If you started your sourdough with white wheat flour but you wanna use brown rhy or spelt flour for the bread, you first have to feed your sourdough the new type of flour for a few days. If it doubles the volume in twelve hours, „training“ is finished and its ready to use (writing all of this in english with german autocorrect on was unnecessarily hard)

Bea, 5-HTP and L-Theanine are supplements that will make a WORLD of difference in your energy and mood, especially if you are having to take a break from exercising. Love you, gurl! Rest is part of training, even if it's not the most fun part ❤️

I have been making my own sourdough bread since the start of COVID. I make 4 loaves a day for roughly 4-5 days at a time, and freeze them. It freezes beautifully :). Then put my starter in the fridge and feed it once in a while. Awesome to see you doing that as well :) (I use a medical glove to fold the bread at this point lol. It keeps me hands from getting sticky and way easier to rinse off and keep my hands from drying out)

Also I’ve had plantar fasciitis and I usually hear people say they had it and then it heals and goes away. But here I am ten years later and can’t do any sort of jumping and most one sided movements, skating and biking hurt too much to do even though those were my favorite things. When it’s hurting stretching my calves in several ways helps and my podiatrist also recommends always wearing supportive shoes (ASICS). I even had surgery with no relief. I hope this injury heals soon!

Hi Bea, I've had issues with my feet since childhood and was recently also diagnosed with plantar fasciitis. What has helped me most are a) orthopedic insoles to correct my foot position and b) exercises that I got from my physician: Stretching my calves and Achilles tendon, walking on tiptoes, gripping a towel with my toes and lifting it/"ripping" it apart. I also use a blackroll-ball (tennisball also works), put my foot on it and roll it around to massage my foot. I did those exercises everyday for like 3 weeks until it got better. Then I got a bit lazy and the pain is starting up again now so I have to start doing them again 😅
    Hope you feel better soon!

The guinea pig hat was so cute ☺️ You’re doing really well with the crochet Bea.
When you’re practicing for a straight edge make sure you mark your first and last stitches with a stitch marker, bobby-pin or different colour yarn, so you’re not increasing or decreasing any stitches when practicing.
Also for making granny square blankets you can turn your work after each row it gives a neater square finish otherwise the square won’t look square if you know what I mean. 😊

Love the ghost shirt! If your single crocheting or half double crochet I like to chain 1 at the end of the row then turn my work. Double crochet I like 2 to 3 chains. Helps the rows stay straight. Im self taught learned that trick after too.

Hey, Bea! Sorry to see you in pain. I do suffer on and off from plantar fascilitis and for me it really helps to foam roll my foot with a small foam roller. And also yoga asanas like downward dog and doing a walking motion while holding it really helps to stretch the calves to aliviate the foot tightness. Also looking into shoes with a wide toe box and no heels helped a lot. Hope this helps ❤

Hi, Bea, just wanted to say that I developed PF from going shoeless in the house after years of making sure I wore footwear that supported my high arches. Google told me the most immediate help for my mild case was to, you guessed it, wear footwear that had arch support. I know a true "fix" would be PT that helped me strengthen my feet.
And your crochet is adorable. I want to add to the chorus of "you're just adding/dropping stitches" bc I taught myself decades ago and was equally mystified by having my work, uh, grow. Since crochet is wrapping yarn around itself it can be tricky to understand what is a separate stitch. If it bugs you, you can try using a firm, smooth yarn that shows good stitch definition, in a medium-tone color, to practice.
But I really want to address your overnight oats recipes. First of all, when you are using something like ground flaxseed or hemp hearts, it's best to start small. Try using just a quarter of what's called for. Secondly, some of us just don't enjoy uncooked oats. The recipes look bomb, but I cook the oatmeal like usual and then add the extras. And finally, matchstick carrots are NOT an acceptable sub for grated. You would have to run them in the food processor a few seconds to make them smaller bits, like shredded carrots. And if you have a recipe that wants you to add a lot of salt, just cut it back to what seems reasonable.
Thank you so much for sharing your life with us like this, you are a guaranteed bright spot in my day.

The best oats meal I’ve found: use the bobs red mill rolled oats, add extra creamy oat milk after, and a few diff kind of berries (I also put in dark cherries that I thaw from the freezer), a serving of your favorite loose granola for texture and flavor, and then I either put cacao nibs or just crumble up a chocolate square or two. I make a HUGE bowl because it keeps great in the fridge and it makes usually 2+ meals. Soooo good.❤
