Ashwin Avadhani yes that’s correct, it’s really up to you which way you do it. I have tried it both ways however and in my experience it is easier to get achievements like Gold Rush and Best in the West if you craft the satchels early in Chapter 2. Being able to carry loads more tonics for example will allow you to spam dead eye items when trying to get gold medals. Being able to carry more items will allow you to collect herbs as you go across the map, rather than being forced to wait until the end and revisit areas you’ve already been. If on the other hand you are already in Chapter 6 of a play through and haven’t crafted it you might as well wait until the epilogue to buy it as crafting it then won’t give you the benefit for enough time versus the investment of collecting all the pelts.

I would also not try to do Herbalist Challenge 7 or complete the Cigarette card quest until you have it. The Legend of the East Satchel is entirely optional to craft and no achievements/trophies are directly tied to it. It will probably take a couple of hours of gameplay to get all the pelts to craft it, but having it will save you time later. So if you're in Chapter 2, I find it's worth crafting, because you'll get the benefit all the way through Chapters 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. If you're in Chapter 3, its probably still worth the effort to craft, and Chapter 4, maybe. But from late Chapter 5 to 6 onward you probably won't get enough benefit to justify the crafting effort involved.

A tip is animals you come across in random encounters such as wolves or cougars are 3 star animals. There is normally an encounter in chapter 2 of a man in tree hiding from cougar Second tip, if you see a hunter with a carcass on his horse those are 3 star, you will need to calm the horse before removing
I've been working on this for a few days making all the satchels. I just made the valuables one and one other. I just got the legendary buck about an hour ago and got the talisman for increase the chance for perfect pelts. I've been playing since 2018 and never got around to making these satchels on my Xbox One
the rolling block sniper rifle is very good for getting the bigger animals and you get it for free in the sheep mission with john at the end of chapter 2 so far ive gotten the 2 elk cougar the bison and most the deer with it i just pop them in the head insta kill
damn i got them all in one day just kept reloading saves until i found 3 star pelts with the buck antler trinket it shouldn't really take you that long@@cobor0930
A quick way to get 1500$ early is to find and solve the Statue puzzle. (You'll find guides across the internet) Another thing if you want to save money: Look up the encounter with a man that has been snake bit near Horseshoe overlook. Later he'll give you the chance to pick up anything you want from the Valentine gunstore. Paid my Springfield rifle early on. Well done video! Especially good choice in music. 😁
Hey Jim, I’m currently using your guide to help me get 100% completion, I’m at the part where it says ‘hunt the required animals to get pelts to craft the Legend of the East Satchel’ does that mean I just get the required pelts or do I actually craft the satchel?
All I need for the 1st 6 satchels is a panther pelt and I left the hardest for last lol this is my 1st play through and I've been dreading the panther. But I have a question. While I was hunting the legendary buck to make the pelt hunting for the satchels easier. I was ambushed by a cougar. I killed it and got a perfect cougar pelt in the process. Well I gave it to Pearson with a perfect boar pelt and when I view his craft able items the cougar pelt doesn't show? I know none of the 1st 6 satchels requires a perfect cougar pelt but the legends of the east does and I can see that in this video. But I viewed a trunk in Arthur's lodge that requires two perfect cougar pelts to craft but it doesn't even show 1 there? Did I get ripped off or do you think it'll show up when I unlock the legends of the east? Maybe becuz I don't actually have two cougar pelts donated so that's why it's not showing on the lodge part?
Hmmm - if you’ve donated a perfect cougar pelt to Pearson he should keep hold of it until you craft something. Unless it wasn’t perfect or you accidentally sold it for camp funds. I was going to ask if you’d accidentally used it to craft Arthur’s chest cover but it’s not that. So not sure what happened here. You’re going to need to get 5 cougars anyway for the Master Hunter challenge - once you get the knack of it it’s not as hard as it first seems to get one. If you haven’t encountered it yet there is also a random event near Calibans seat near Horseshoe overlook camp where a perfect cougar spawns attacking a NPC.
you can carry 99 of certain items,fish,plants,herbs,wild flowers,game meat,right now in my satchel i have 45 steal head salmon,40 largemouth bass,,13 small mouth bass..it should be a great pay day when i sell them..30 sockeye salmon $75

Ashwin Avadhani good question, I don’t know because I’ve never tried on replay. Perhaps worth testing out on a mission that’s very easy to get the challenge on. For example if you have just completed Bandit 4 and Bandit 5 is open, try replaying “Blessed are the Meek” in Chapter 2 because in normal play it’s automatic with that mission if the challenge is active. Horseman 7 is also hard to miss with the Chapter 3 mission “Soddom? Back to Gomorrah”. My instinct is doing it on a replay won’t carry forward your challenge progress, your health and stats for example are reset on the replay, but perhaps it’s worth testing out to be sure!

I got all items for Legend of East satchel and for other satchels and gave it to Pearson. On somewhere Google I seen says you pay $225 and I put bit more than that in box as a Author but Legend of East Satchel and one of the other Satchel is still locked even I gave all items to Pearson. I hope this is doesn't carries on too long but if it does then I end up crafting as John in Epilogue 1 in nearest trapper which is in Tall Trees. I'm in middle of Chapter 3 after quite lots of times restart the game from beginning.

Yes you can wait to the epilogue and buy it. You will have to realistically put off some of the herbalist challenges to if you’re going for 100% as you won’t have the storage capacity without it.
I have the other satchels and the correct pelts and all the scout campfire upgrades but I still can’t craft materials satchel please tell me how to fix this glitch. I’ve reloaded my game multiple times and it still isn’t fixed. Please, help.
You need to craft 3 items at the camp scout fire to unlock the material satchel. Note there are two fires at each camp, and it isn't always obvious which one it is. The big fire where the gang sit around and sing songs is not the one you are after. The scout camp fire will be more peripheral to the camp - look around the edges to find it.

And its kinda hard sometimes: for example a rabbit belongs to the small or medium? And some weapons can kill both medium-big or small-medium.. kinda confusing i want a perfect list like this and maybe you can help me find one

There aren’t reliable rules based on the size of each animal as to what weapon works best, you really have to know what’s the best weapon for each individual animal rather than rely on a rule. See the playlist linked in the description which will show a video of what you use for each animal.

Yes, you can fold, except when doing Gambler Challenge 10 where you have to win three hands in a row. My 100% completion list will show you how to partially complete that with a mission though that will make it easier.
I would say early in CH2 so you get the benefits earliest. I have a 100% guide linked in the description. Follow the longer playlist if you want to do optional stuff like LOTE satchel.
Jay Simpson and you’ve done all the other unlock tasks eg upgraded the tonics wagon twice, crafted at the scout fire etc? What do you see on your screen when you try to craft?
A certain point in Chapter 6 Pearson won't be available. You will be able to buy the satchel in the Epilogue, so I wouldn't bother crafting it in Ch6. Crafting it is only really helpful if you do it in Ch2 to get the benefits for most of the story.

It’s not essential but it does make life a lot easier to have as good as unlimited capacity.
