I was 12 years old when I saw this on the Two Ronnies in 1978. I was just about to enter puberty. Seeing Laurel sing and perform this had a profound effect on me that saturday night when this came on! 30 years later as a man and watching it again I can see why her MOVEMENT stirred all sorts of new and unfamiliar feelings in that 12 year old Boy! True class, grace and talent. Simply not enough of this around anymore! I hope she is well wherever she is now.
Beautiful, graceful, romantic. Just what is needed in these days of meaningless so called love songs. Laurel Masse is gorgeous, sweet voice, I could play this for ever. Thanks for posting.
I remember seeing this on The Two Ronnies Show, Saturday night in 1978. I also heard it every morning on the Terry Wogan Radio show, as I was eating my Weetabix and getting ready for school. Needless to say this song got into my head. I will never forget this performance.
A beautiful song from a more beautiful time. This woman is making love to her audience.... Confident beyond words.i watched her as a child performing this back in the 70,s and felt moved even then, maybe my hormones got triggered that day, who knows Smile
@myroseaccount I am not surprised that you had the hots for the female vocalist of Manhattan Transfer when you were twelve years of age, back in '78. She was a VERY attractive/fanciable young woman ...... and, what is more, she had a lovely voice as well, so she did. "Walk In Love" was - and indeed still is - a great single. It reached the lower echelons of The Top 20 in the early part of 1978 (if memory serves) but it deserved to be a MUCH bigger hit that it actually was.
a way to describe this song in a way .... a warm moonlit night sat in a cool bar with a 77 trans am black parked outside in back listening to Manhattan transfer back when this song was written with a loved one a great end to the night walking on a moonlit beach next to a fire n some fine wine simply perfect way to end the night I say xx 👍👍👍😉
just watching this beautiful video n listening to Manhattan transfer makes me want to be back in 1978 such a beautiful time with a cool ride a 1977 trans am in gold n 6.6 litre
I heard this on the radio today and it took me right back to the 70's. Great song/singer/group. I say this all the time : we didn't realize how good it was at the time, and then it's gone. I am on a mission now to get their greatest hits and listen all over again.
Beguiling interpretation from a beautiful songbird, inside and out...Laurel is just as lovely today, by the way...saw her this past Christmas season in concert in NYC...delightful and such a smart lady, too! Bless her radiant spirit, always!
My dad had the Pastiche album and I loved this song when I was 5. Haven't heard it in so long though, thanks for posting. Laurel is probably the most desireable woman that ever lived.
beautiful dancing, I wonder if she studied Hula dancing, looks so very close.......what a voice, leaves me speechless....Wow...this group always sang beautifully, thank you for posting this......doug
This song, this video, this arrangement, this presentation is strangely alluring. I've enjoyed hearing this song many times before by others and they were all good but this one is good, excellent, in a special way. I guess that's creativity.
Laurel Masse' preceded Cheryl Bentyne in MT and only dropped out because of a terrible auto accident that nearly killed her and required a long rehab. Wow--besides a beautiful voice she does a pretty good hula dance too!
Laurel was a fantastic talent--------it's both a shame & a blessing that she & MT went their own ways back in late '78. -------------------WolfSky9, 74 y/o
massively different world mate... not just different people... technology, communications, media, music industry, end of cold war, etc... BTw. I have this track on an old John Klemmer LP (sax) from 1978 called Arabesque. I did not realise it was even the same tune as the way its played is not quite like this... he was the original composer btw...
wud love to time travel back to the late 1970s let's think we had Saturday night fever n grease n the bee gees n Tony manero n the famous disco 2001 oddssey in Brooklyn n the cool evel knievel oh boy a perfect time xx
I loved Man-Tran's version of "Tuxedo Junction" but when this came out, it blew me away. In fact, the whole album this comes from "Pastiche," is full of similar gems, some in "40's style," but others, were more, for the time, contemporary efforts.. The album was "unavailable," for years, but can be found on C.D. or downloaded, these days..well worth a look!
This is how love sound,s. I remember long ago feeling like this, what on earth happen,s ? It never repeat,s you just keep chasing that feeling. I close my eyes listening to this then open my eyes at the end and realise I was dreaming about how I used to feel, sad is,nt it. I know it will never come back, impossible to replace that feeling of love but not knowing you are in love. What a unhappy mess, bugger me, lonely is a man without love, (englebert).
@myasmate Iknow what you mean - I felt like she was singing to ME - and I am sure many other listeners had the same experience. The sign of a truly magical performance.
Why can't pop singers these days sing like this, I can't stand all the screaming and over enthusiastic embellishments that the brainwashed masses seem to think is clever. Bring back natural singing voices like Laurel Masse. Please!
So true - the best singers give more to a song by seeming to give very little. And when it's done right - as with Laurel - a subtle performance makes a great song even greater.
I WAS A MERE TWICKEL IN MY DADS EYE, BUT BELIEVE ME WHEN I SAY I WISH TO GOD I WAS THAT BLOKE SAT IN THE DECK CHAIR ONLY SARAH BRIGHTMAN COULD HAVE TOPPED THAT LEAD VOCAL !

Exactly my memory too! How many lads remember that Two Ronnies evening because of Lauren?!

This is gentle, tender, truly so loving. A great song I loved as a young teenager. They don't do it like this anymore.
Beautiful woman, beautiful voice. A very happy late 70s memory.
Laurel was captivating… fabulous group

It wasn't a different world, just different people.
Laurel certainly brightened up my world - then and now.

This is just beautiful, both to hear and to see. Laurel is gorgeous and has a great voice. How music should be, but these days so rarely is.
from the two ronnies they really made this group sparkle with glamour gorgeous girls , fun , amazing costumes and sets
Mmmmm I bought this single back in 77 - I just love them

Seven years later, I'm going to say that this performance by Laurel takes me there and back (Paul Galico). Kudos!

That woman forced me to sit with a cushion on my lap in the 1970s. Heavenly.
I think he meant - got a hard on, as she's pretty tasty by 1970s standards

Laurel sings and dances so sensually
i totally agree
The song and the singer are both so sexy
Good song. I remeber this was plaed on the Two Ronnies a few years ago. Something very innocent about that period in history. Good times.
