- This is from Putting on the Hits, the 80s lip sync game show. I believe Doug was the champion for that season's final competition.

Hey everyone! His daughter again, after discussing with my Dad (3-D) I'm actually going to do a Q&A with him so if anyone has any questions please comment below!! I'll be seeing him mid September. (I also mentioned to him that I think he needs to limber up and try to reattempt this dance lol)
Please let me know what you want to know about my dad!!
Did your dad win $25,000?
We want a video of him talking about it and dancing .
That would be so cool!!
@@cerealfibre6938 He did, I watched the original show when it aired.....
@@timparker3272
Awesome, did it air in 1985?
Hey everyone, his oldest daughter here! Just wanted to comment and let anyone watching his video in good ol 2021 that he is doing great, living in Southern California and even tho he's getting close to 60 he can still bust moves like no one's business! Thanks to everyone who said kind words, I like to update him on comments, especially the hilarious ones.
Hey Jess I want to say him hello 😍😘
Ive watched This video at least once a week for years... I am absolutely amazed every time and I will never get sick of it.... This ranks right up there with one of my all time favourites
That's amazing I wish the qauilty of the video was better to show off how good that really was... amazing though I just wish it was the whole song it was amazing..... dad's an ace dancer
I remember that performance!!! He's excellent!!!
I'm 50, and your dad scared the shit out of me.I'm a Scorpio, so I loved it!
80-90s best time to be alive.
the 1970s were pretty cool...
Yea they were
@@JettBlast as long as you weren't near Saigon. .
Im watching 2023😂 never seen this video before. I heard the song when it got released and felt it was a weird hit. But now i understand why it was so popular
His eye makeup rocks. It's the perfect look for his act.
I’m serious when I tell you I saw this in the eighties on live tv....I WAS 19!!!
This performance embodies the 80's in so many ways.
Almost 30 years later and this is still incredible.
He poured more emotion into the song than the actual video! He gave a stellar performance and a glimpse into the violence an actual combat soldier would have gone through but not as graphic! One could only imagine!
I haven't seen this since it originally aired - I was riveted when I saw it as a kid - even by today's standards that was exceptional.
Jersey Representing me to couldn't wait till Saturdays
Same
Jaaj this guy maan!;) he executed that soo well. Maan!;) hes looks make up. Movement. Lip sinking. Wuaoo!;) love it!;)
I was in my twenties and couldn’t look away from the screen.
Even Simon Cowell would be impressed!
Why do I keep coming back to this video approx. once per month. I think its his wicked looking face and head along with his mad skillz.
This is the performance that justifies that entire series.
Hell yeah! I remember being transfixed to the TV in my mom's living room amazed at his roboawesomeness!🤖
As his daughter, I thank you for your kind words. He's almost 60 now and can still do this skit!
@@JI-rz1hx I remember talking about this show with a friend in high school and we thought the idea of a lip syncing competition show was a little silly, but this was so much more than just lip syncing that it "justified the whole series".
@@Robostate he really was just wanting people to open their eyes to what the song was about and he was so happy to get a perfect score and he actually had Vets thanking him for his performance. I honestly wish I was alive to see it happen, sadly I only get the stories he tells me
@@JI-rz1hx How about talking him into doing this skit again now at age 60, and create a new video with both the then and now versions. It would be epic!
I remember that show came on right after solid gold on Saturday. those were the good old days.
I remember Vietnam Vets getting so overwhelmed after seeing his performance, thanking him for putting a human touch to such a hard subject. Everyone who saw him perform live back in the day was in awe! Knowing him as a friend was even better!
BTW Doug, this is Andi ...
Hey Andi! Thanks for sharing this experience, I'll make sure to show him this!
~ his daughter
Andi, I was reminded by my daughter today of what I did all those years ago. Thanks for the kind words. You are missed. Much love.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
This is the coolest thing I’ve seen in years .
Salute to all Vietnam vets out there !
I was a Fan of this show and even was a $25,000 Grand Finalist (Screamin' Jay Hawkins - I Put A Spell On You). This is one of The Greatest Acts to EVER appear on POTH. Just FANTASTIC!
Hey fellow finalist! Many many years later how things have changed, yes? Thanks for posting. Hope you’re doing well.
No words, genius!!!
I remember this episode! Paul Hardcastle's 19 got major play summer 1985!
A magnificent song and the video was awesome as well.
one of the best things i've seen on RUclips
Friggin' awesome. Danced to this in the clubs circa mid 80's.
I remember this as i was a teenager at the time!! My mom and I used to watch POTH every Saturday night. 3-Ds choreography is absolutely perfect and what a fantastic idea to present this song with the makeup, fatigues, and the robotic movements. Brilliant!!! Thanks for this fantastic stroll down memory lane and yes I have rewatched this a couple hundred times and smile during each replay!!
Lol this guy is my dads best friend and he was at my wedding this past weekend :) he's awesome
RUclips you are kidding...
@@herklm3770 no, wasnt kidding in the least. This shit is his side hobby/passion.
Really??

Oh my god, I thought it was a mannequin for the first few seconds, but it's a guy! He's really damn good here!
Holy shit! I've seen this performance twice in my life. First was when it aired, second was just now. Drove me crazy trying to remember where I heard that song.
Dude was dope. Originality dope, stage presence dope, costume dope. Awesome performance. This show took me back to the good times.
OMG I'm Old I was spinning on my head to this. The 80's wher'd you go sigh'
I remember this performance very well. Watched this show all the time back in the day.
Totally sick performance still in 2014!
Still in 2021!
Thanks for all the love! I'll let him know he's still making people happy with this routine
This just popped into my head out of nowhere. I first saw this when it first aired. Had to be around 6-9 years old. I'm 40 now.
I cannot stop watching this. Hypnotic, eerie and so well done. Respect to this man and his interpretation of this classic. xxx
Took me right back ! What a totally cool dude , lovely guy and exceptionally talented !!! I'm 50 just gone and can remember playing this back over and over back in the day , the video of 3D not paul hardcastle! Hope you and your family are well my friend stay frosty marine ha ! All the best Steve Sunderland u.k. 🇬🇧 🇺🇲 👍
Intense shit right there man .
The way his head is shaped and with those moves, he would make an excellent Frankenstien's Monster.
You know what's crazy? I watched that episode when I was a kid. I remember that performance. Crazy!
This was my first experience with the song and sought it out at the record store after seeing this. Very good performance.
Omg I remember this show! That guy was amazing
Someone left this link in a comment (in 2014) on a Steam Guide I made for DayZ. Just now went through the comments and clicked on it.
Not disappointed. This brings back memories lol
If there was a war themed theme park, this guy would be part of the Vietnam ride.
Holy shit, where does the time go? Austriankitten, your dad and I used to compete against each other back in the day. I read your comment and thought "He's not old enough to have a kid", then I remembered him showing me baby pictures of you! That was almost 20 years ago.
Where does the time go.....
Hey Chris!! (New youtube, forever lost my password to that old account lol) my dad is actually coming up to being 60 now! (I myself turning 33 this Saturday) he's still doing great living in southern California
Dude...you better get in touch with me!!!
Your Dad did awesome. I was in the military and would listen to the soldiers tell me about their stories about Vietnam. Years later one of their stories probably saved my life. I was informed to always stay in the tracks of the vehicle in front of me.
Yes, Doug... I remember freaking out in front of the TV and clapping with the audience -- I loved the song as a young girl and just remember being so happy for you! I hope you are doing well and you are still pop-lockin' it somewhere in the world!
Thanks!! I’m so glad you enjoyed it. I’m older now and not sure I can make those moves anymore. Lol. I’m doing well and I hope you’re doing the same.
Thanks! Soooo many years later, it is so nice to see your comments. I am doing well, but not on stage, to my disappointment. But, still doing well. My hope is that my performance told some kind of story that emphasizes that war is something we need to avoid!!
OMG! I remember watching this.
Да он лучший ёпте танцор всех времён👏👏👏👏увидел, аж афигел слегонца👍😲
I remember watching this guy when I was a kid, He scared the shit out of me! He was mesmerizing. As an adult watching him again, he scares me even more, because the words to this song is true and still on going. 19.
he still scares you?????????????????? he is flipping human!
Cherie McFadden Watch at end. He pulls outta robot mode and totally relaxes, and out of breath. It’s probably the dark make up that he was wearing that creeped you out.
Thanks! My daughter just reminded me of what I did all those years ago. I am almost glad that it scared you. War is is HELL. They went through it. Let’s hope we don’t have to anymore!
@@douglasdeneveu3061 Great performance! Did you grow up in Sac?
What's this guy's name?
Awesome performance! I have probably watched 50 times already. 🥰
I am in U.K listened to this record in 80s and played this at disco's and watched people trying their best to do robotics to this and many other tracks..I came across this on youtube 3years ago and keep watching this it makes me smile .This is great. His moves are the best.
Thanks Bobby! I had to tell the story! People dancing to the music but not listening to the words! Had to make a statement. Thanks again.
I was a fan of Puttin' on the Hits growing up. 3-D was my favorite act out of all of them. I wanted him to win in the grand finals. I was disappointed when he didn't. To this day I play this every now and then.
Cecil, thanks for the nice comment. Those were the days, right? It was quite the ride!
@@douglasdeneveu3061 I'm sure it was. I saw the other act you did after "19". That was good too. I didn't expect a reply, much less from you yourself. Thank you
Awww, I thought I heard he won
no way this is seriously your dad, that's so cool!!!! I wish my dad could move like this lol
This was so awesome! I remember watching this act on TV. It was (and still is!) truly jaw-dropping. So well done and on a sensitive subject. On so many levels, just a great performance.
Oh my god. I haven't seen this in probably 25 years. Thanks so much for uploading it!!!
I can't remember how old I was when I saw this, but it's been a couple decades and I never forgot this performance.
awesome that the audience is clapping along with the music :)
I still have flashbacks from this performance as a kid. Glad someone posted this and I found it. Amazing.
This guy is an 80's legend! I remember watching it.... WOOT WOOT
Thanks so much for your positive comment on my performance. I do appreciate it!
he's looking into my soul.
Oh Gosh, I can't Imagine the time he put into this. Perfection.
I was reminded of this performance by the 1980s Heardle--I didn't know this song from anywhere else, but I still have solid memories of 3D from "Puttin' on the Hits" and this excellent piece. Nearly 40 years later and still lodged in my brain--good job!
This is still brilliant in 2023, a time where we are overrun with fakery and instant gratification - this really stands up to the test of time and I love it. Many thanks from the UK.
This man is my hero. :D
He was absolutely brilliant
I was just a kid when i saw this awesome performance on the TV we had when we had with Rabbit Ears for Antenna. Puttin on the Hits was awesome i always watched it. This man was so talented in a haunting way. Puts chills up my spine. Everytime my Dad would go to the Army Surplus Store to buy something ...i would always think of this man for some reason.
Holy crap .... my buddy from high school just showed me this .... this guy was impeccable!!!!! That truly was a perfect performance.....but also don’t miss the host’s perfectly flawless blonde mullet .... lmao ... A 1987 picture of pure hairstyling perfection ! I swear he’s got a perm mixed in with that mullet !!!
I saw this LIVE ... and it was the BEST sheyitte I've ever seen..!!!!!
"I wasn't really sure what was going on..."
I remember this Dude... I am 44 right now... and yes, He was Kool!
It's 2021 and that performance is still hella good!
Awesome watching this in 2022! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😊😃 Doug, you are pure gold awesome!!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Brilliant, just brilliant performance!
Classic !! I remember going out to the clubs in sac town when I lived there during these times and saw 3-D win most of the awards at lip sync contest. Everyone used to say he should compete nationally. He did end up wining there too.
Hey! I was raised in Sac and use to visit the clubs. Which clubs did 3-D compete in??
Just saw this for the first time today. His performance was awesome !!
Man I love youtube! This guy is the only reason I put POTH in the search box. I used to hear this song after seeing the show and would imitate some of the moves. Would love to meet this guy someday and shake his hand
Superb!!!! I never forgot this performance. I saw the actual performance on TV back in the day. I looked for it briefly several years back. So happy I never forgot it. I may revisit it every month now. Thank you for sharing!
Wow! Wayback Machine in overdrive! I remember watching him when I was a kid. This was a fantastic performance!
He's absolutely awesome 😍😘 I want to know him more 😍❤️
Oh My Gosh! I found 3D doing 19 on Puttin on the Hits!! I saw this as a teenager one Saturday morning. He was scheduled to return to the show the following week. I didn't want to miss him so I "called in sick" to my weekly bowling league game. My team captain wasn't happy, but it was worth it!!!
Hi there in 2021. My first time seeing him do this fantastic performance. I am deeply moved..... I always loved this song and its message but he brought it over the top. God bless him for caring enough.......
This is the almost incredible thing ever!
3D has been one of my favorit dances for many years KEEP TUTIN ON EM
Wow awesome. I love Paul Hardcastle's 19 and this made it more special. Keep dancing Doug.
I remember watching this performance when i was a kid. Amazing and so creative.

WOW! I totally forgot about this video. I haven't seen it since I was in high school. Brings back memories.
Even though this was years ago ..it was a fantastic act great talent ...really outstanding can watch it all day. ...hope the performer had success with his talent after all!!
It’s 2021 and I showed my 13 year old this earlier and she was mesmerized!!!!! I was only 2 years younger than her now when I saw it on tv. And I STILL remember going to school and EVERYONE was just in AWE!!! We had NEVER seen ANYTHING like this!! so after ALL this time, I don’t think ANYONE who saw this has EVER forgotten it!!!!! I never missed an episode, but this performance wasn’t just an “act”. This was ART! when you relook at things you saw as a kid, it’s kind of embarrassing at what you thought “ was SO amazing “. well that can NOT be said here!!! This is timeless and absolutely BRILLIANT to this day!!
I remember hearing this song on the radio.
It's great that your dad brought it to life onstage. Especially the
Post traumatic stress disorder some vets have suffered with for years. He made it so real. Thanx for sharing this video.😊
Hello i want to let everyone know the experience my mother had with a very good friend that served in the Vietnam war he was from Puerto Rico his name was Alberto Byehdares but became American she asked him what exactly happened to him there many times he couldn't find himself to explain in some days he would tell her he would take a walk for many hours gone or while he was sleeping his nightmares were so real he would wake up in sweat he would say things like no brother don't go there he would cry out he is bleeding i can't stop it he would say you have a wife come back please come back , my mother saw all this between 1975 to 1978 but when he was not having these re laps of Vietnam what a great man kind, gentle, thoughtful, respectful, a gentleman.... may he rest in peace i pray i salute to all the men who served in the Vietnam war .
I remember this, too - had to go searching for it! It's as good as I remember! The guy was a creative genius, I hope he's doing well.
Hey Bill!! He's actually doing great, living in southern California
Óriási!
This is the Classic Break Dance!👍
Flippin' awesome! i remember this show!
No words can describe this. It’s priceless. And, transcendental. I lose my sense of reality every time I watch it and am transported into another dimension. Bravo!
Unreal performance, 3-D rocks !!!!!!
That was a brilliant performance, I have never seen it before.
Here in Britain, 19 was number one in the charts for four weeks. I didn't know that the record have even been released in America.
I remember watching this show as a kid. This performance and the Force MDs Itchin for a Scratch are the two performances I’ll always remember
I'm 56 years old and this song "19" by Paul Hardcastle is one of my favorites. I like the music/melody, the stuttering effects, the story line/lyrics, the mixing in and out of the news caster and the singer/rapper, the woman screaming, trumpet player...
The song is missing an MTV type music video. This video is one of the best versions I've seen.
It would be interesting to see this evolve into more.
Has Paul Hardcastle seen this?
Hey! Paul actually reached out to my dad and thanked him for his performance when it initially aired. Absolutely made his day
Thanks for your comment. I haven’t really followed this since I was a kid. I am 58 now. I appreciate your observations of my performance. I wanted to tell a story. Some saw it. Some did not. I am glad you did!
@@douglasdeneveu3061 Your whole act = Flawless, filled will emotion, and thought-provoking! 💜

Thank you!! Many, many years later!
Where the heck have I been that haven't had the extreme luxury of seeing this video before? Blown away (pun intended)!
