I have been going through the comments, a lot of you wonder why I did not know this song and actually knew the cover by Bad Wolfes well this song was released 1994 I was born 1996 so yeah that’s that . But what actually surprised me was the fact that people judged me by smiling at this , I do understand lyrics it’s not the first time I hear it, but it is the first time I experience Dolores and the Cranberries . Is it that bad that her beautiful voice makes me smile ? That I find beauty in her expressions, emotions and performance ? Judging a person’s ways of expressing is not right , making them feel bad or guilty just because they don’t feel the way you do is not to be done . I am very implicated in everything that’s regarding my channel from the recording to the replying and reading comments as well I am honest and admit if I recognize the lyrics or the song . If you made it and actually read everything thank you for checking out my content and enjoying this musical experience that is my channel your support is really appreciated. Much love ❤️
Many people skip the intro and the outro and just watch the reaction. A lot of the questions and concerns they might have are usually answered at the beginning and end of the reaction. I'm guilty of that myself sometimes. I smile as well listening to this song. It's hauntingly beautiful. Seeing as how you had heard the song but not Dolores's version your smiling was inevitable and not out of place at all. You can't cry every time you listen to this song. Lot's of times, yes, but not every time. Thanks for this reaction. Peace

The song was written in 1994 hoping for peace in Northern Ireland. For a song with a connection to a specific situation and filled with such power and raw emotion, only those who have written it and lived through the reality can do it justice. Covers, however well intentioned and respectful can't even scratch the surface. RIP the one and only Dolores.

When the Bad wolves did there version. it was supposed to a Collab. but when Delores Passed away shortly before they were going to record, it became more of a tribute to her instead, hence the symbolism of the golden makeup on the girl on the other side of the glass in the ne version
I'm Irish, and have been going to the north since the early 80's, so I'm in a better position to talk about this than most. nothing wrong with you smiling along with the song, it is a beautiful song, and her voice is amazing. Its's a beautiful song, so enjoy it.
It’s a great song and It was written about an IRA bomb in Warrington,England that killed two schoolchildren….here’s what Delores said about why she wrote the song. “There were a lot of bombs going off in London and I remember this one time a child was killed when a bomb was put in a rubbish bin -- that's why there's that line in the song, 'A child is slowly taken,'" O'Riordan told Songwriting Magazine. "We were on a tour bus and I was near the location where it happened, so it really struck me hard - I was quite young, but I remember being devastated about the innocent children being pulled into that kind of thing. So I suppose that's why I was saying, 'It's not me' - that even though I'm Irish it wasn't me, I didn't do it. Because being Irish, it was quite hard, especially in the UK when there was so much tension." She told Vox magazine in 1994 that the song was written in part as a mechanism to grapple with her identity as an Irish citizen that did not support the actions of the IRA. "The IRA are not me. I'm not the IRA. The Cranberries are not the IRA. My family are not. ... When it says in the song, 'It's not me, it's not my family,' that's what I'm saying. It's not Ireland".
Watching your face light up, as soon as Dolores started to sing, was all I needed to see; to know how good this reaction would be. The Cranberries are truly special.
This song is in my all time top 10 list of favorites, the song the video, the sound of the song, the visuals and the fact the incredible singer is no longer with us, i always end up crying but i love it so much. If you like this version listen to the live version of it sang by Cranberries in Ireland....sounds even better!!
This song always hits hard for me. I have some partial Irish heritage. The subject is so grave but still must be addressed. I applaud The Cranberries for writing a heavy song that covers such an important topic. Rest In Peace to Dolores, unfortunately unable to overcome her demons in the end. Her addiction may have taken her but we have her voice forever.
There’s obviously no way anyone could have covered this faithfully, but the fact that they did so is a tribute to the original. It’s a work of art, a song about tragedy sung by a person whose life was eventually tragic.
The smile on your face when she gets into the meat of the song is priceless young lady. As you'll see throughout the comments there are so many more songs by this band you will love. Both studio and live.
The cranberries will always be missed. Dolores's voice is otherworldly and angelic. I really when this song first came out, it blew me away because it was so freakin heavy and melodic at the same time.
the mid 90's were an amazing time for alternative rock (as we called it back then..).. Shifting from Grunge with Pearl Jam or Nirvana over to Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots to the likes of Radiohead, Cranberries, Skunk Anansie, Bush or the Offspring.. there are way too many amazing bands from that time to mention..
And I was blessed to have been able to hit every one of these shows in SLC, fort Collin’s 1995-1999 And sublime, warren G(amongst many other hip hop artists), RATM. Truly awesome time for music. Absolutely lucky for the memories
Thank you for watching the video, It means a lot to me . I will leave this pinned message here to REMIND everyone that i do not have TELEGRAM and there is no GIVEAWAY. Those you see are bot scams . Keep yourself safe and know that I would not ask for your info. ❤ ❤
❤ The Cranberries "Zombie," top 5 favorite song. Cover changed lyrics that didn't need changed. It was interesting though knowing Dolores was going to sing it but then passed away before she could. I believe they donated the proceeds of their cover to her children.
I was in college when this came out. It was a great year for music. But when this first played on MTV we were stunned, and knew we heard something important.
What she is doing (vocally) is called "keening". It's an antiquated Irish singing style designed to lament or mourn, typically at a funeral or wake. This is a very deep song. While it eludes to "the troubles" which was an ongoing conflict between Catholics and protestants in Ireland it also refers to a specific incident where two innocent children died in a random bombing.
It's just awesome. This video is a masterpiece. The music is marvelous. It's mostly soft, silent and slowly but so powerful, emotional and expressive. No cover is comparable with such an original song. It's another dimension of music. Can't stop hearing it.
Great reaction as always Madalina. The Irish brogue and the lilt in her voice made Dolores an absolute one of a kind singer. Her passion will live on through her music for generations
I'm a metalhead but definitely check out live performances of the band. Delores owned the crowd like Su-metal. She was at the top of the list of great performers.
She had one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard. I was 13 when this song came out. I loved Deloros. It was devastating to hear of her passing 💔
I watched a concert on T,V with the Cranberries. Instantly fell in love with Delores voice. Within a month I had 4 CDS the raw raspberry growl of her voice is very unique to her. I have heard noone who could match it. .
The troubles are still simmering away. We are lucky to live during a time where the majority from both sides of the argument want no more fighting but to try and continue to find a peaceful answer despite the best efforts of those that want a return to violence!
Such a RAW and powerful song and video. The visuals add so much to the song. The angst strong and thick. The pain and anguish rips out your heart. The danger is palatable. It's in our head!
My favourite thing about this song is how humbly she sings it. You can see by the way she avoids the camera she wants people to focus on the songs message. Great reaction btw. The audio quality is much appreciated!
Seeing your reaction reminded me of the first time I heard this song (a couple of decades ago), my head exploded, my skin broke out in goosebumps, and my eyes filled with tears. It was a very powerful experience. RIP Dolores.
Such a beautiful song about such a terrible reality. And a tragic end for Dolores, who died in a hotel room while traveling to collaborate with Bad Wolves on their cover. The high breaking effect in her voice is called keening. Its a traditional Irish form that symbolizes mourning.
Oh dear, I just read about what actually happened to Dolores - that is just so sad. I can relate to that, it is painfully close to home for me too. I can understand how now, with peace more or less stable in N. Ireland, that the song can be appreciated for its musical beauty as well as its profound message. However with what is happening in the Middle East and Eastern Europe, the terrible cycle of violence against children, and civilians in general, continues.
This is a really wonderful reaction, thank you so much! The look on your face when you realize what you've been missing, it's priceless. It's almost like watching one of those videos where deaf people hear for the first time. Many interesting and adorable expressions. Especially at 2:44! And to those criticizing you for smiling, please read the words of P.B. Shelley: We look before and after, And pine for what is not: Our sincerest laughter With some pain is fraught; Our sweetest songs are those that tell of saddest thought.
Still got the seven inch single from '94. That was the year they burst onto the scene in the UK with the single Linger although I think they gained a bit of traction in the US first. This song was clearly about the troubles in Northern Ireland though as I recall, I think it was specifically inspired by the Warrington bombings on the mainland the year before, a town just down the road from where I grew up. Dolores. Such a damn waste of talent and a beautiful soul. Thanks again for your reactions. There's some good 'reactots' up here on RUclips but yours are absolutely top notch every time.
I saw a lot of concerts in the 1990's. Name a 90's band, I probably caught them. The Cranberries I saw 3 times. The first time was a random dreary Tuesday at a small venue. $3 at the door. The opening act was Counting Crows, who nobody had ever heard of, it was 3 months before their debut CD dropped. They blew the roof off the place. It was a half full venue, and they had the energy for a stadium. I got to talk with Adam Duritz for a few minutes after they played, while the roadies loaded them off, and The Cranberries on. He was just chilling side stage, and was the kindest soul. Then the Cranberries came on, and I was right up front. Delores was no more than 10' away for the entire show. I was instantly mesmerized by her. Easily one of my top 5 90's concert memories. I was crushed when she passed.
Beyond her fantastic voice, Dolores was a poet and composer of the first order. The lyrics of this song are so compelling and heartfelt. Since the dawn of the millennium and all the terror threats post-Sept 11th, 2001, folks have largely forgotten the Irish troubles, which stretched bloodshed, hatred and loss throughout the 20th century. The spectre of this recent violence raised some fears during Brexit, but even then, they were downplayed and largely ignored. The Irish troubles should not be forgotten; they should be an enduring lesson on the toxicity of religious and cultural division with the violence and horror it brings to all involved.
What upsets me is how many Americans use this as an anthem for UP THE IRA AND KILL PEOPLE. It misses the point of the song of people being brainwashed by hatred. None of the sides want violence except the extremists on both sides :/ Also the Bass from this song is great fun to play. You can even do it acoustic on a uke if you down tune it :D
Well, she was supposed to do the Bad Wolves version with them but she literally died a day or two before they went into the studio for it. It would’ve been so amazing for her and bad wolves to have done that together. Something we all lost out on.
I love how Biss let's herself feel the music and connects to it on an emotional level ! My wife is utterly indifferent towards music and it's the saddest thing.
My husband who was literally born into a civil war, has tears on his face. This is so powerful and so BEAUTIFUL. I’m ashamed to say I was a teenager when this song came out, and I missed out too… because I was such a snobby little shit 😖 that had no appreciation for vocal technique that wasn’t classical. Dolores O’Riordan’s voice is a beautiful creation
I'm so pleased you discover the true power of this incredibly gifted singer. Please, do listen their other records, I'm sure you will enjoy them so much.
Still one of the best antiwar songs out there. Really pulls you in with lyrics, vocals and over all music. I feel the same as I felt when this song first came out. Just amazing. -Jadedspyder
There is nothing wrong with loving the song. As long as you know why it was written, and why it makes me cry every time. How can such kick ass tune be about the death of 2 kids, and still be good?
Another great reaction! Specifically, this song is about "the Troubles" in Northern Ireland, which was an unofficial civil war over the question of whether Northern Ireland should be a part of the UK or a part of the Republic of Ireland. It was also very much about Catholic versus Protestant values, a theme that has plagued British history since the 1530s. The line "It's the same old theme since 1916," is a reference to the Easter Uprising in Dublin in 1916, which was brutally repressed by the British. The Republic of Ireland came into being in 1922, first as a member of the British Commonwealth, but it later left the Commonwealth to make its own path. But the Republic never included the six counties around Belfast (which remain a part of the UK).
Thank you for explaining a cruel part of history, that some would want forgotten, my Gran was from the Emerald Isle, I remember being shocked by her outbursts, living in London in the 1960's.
I loved Bad Wolves version of this also, it was done really well and they were very respectful to Delores in the way they paid homage to her in their clip and they kept the song very much original. Another great video, you are very lovely thank you :)
Hello, for me the singer unfortunately died too early and every time i hear this song i have to cry, because I still think that this band will had an Great career!!
Dolores O'Riordan is one of my favourite singers of all time... If I had a Cranberries suggestion it would probably be Promises, the video for the song...
However good a cover may be, it can't come close to Dolores O'Riordan. Her voice was a perfect and beautiful mix of rock and traditional Irish singing. Go raibh suaimhneas síoraí uirthi (eternal rest be upon her).
I don't know if anyone has told you the story. The Bad Wolves version was originally supposed to be a colab with Delores. It was actually going to be a re-imagined version of the song. The day filming was to begin they found Delores drowned in her bathtub. What an unmitigated tragedy. I am tearing up just thinking about it. The Bad Wolves instead of just canceling the video altogether, decided to turn the song into a cover and Tribute to Delores. I salute them for the decision, but cannot say I will ever prefer it to the original. thank you for another wonderful reaction look forward to your next movie. Love and respect. HOG fam.
I appreciate that you were smiling at the beauty of her voice and the power of the song. It was also very clear that you started noticing that the images in the video weren't matching up with the feeling you had listening to the music and vocal performance. As a reactor, especially when listening to bands who made music before 2000, you might find that the lyrics, and the stories behind the lyrics, are essential to the reaction. Of course there will always be songs and artists who aren't as deep or poetic. And all music can be enjoyed purely for the sound. But songs like this mean something, and they're considered great songs because of the complexity of the message. This song should make a listener think and feel deeply. As a reactor, you can grow and excel if you recognize when a greater message or story is being told, work to understand the story, and share your experience with the art. Good luck to you. Keep going back to the original artists. 80-90% of the time, the original is better than the cover.
As soon as you smiled, I knew you felt the same about Dolores as we all do! She was an amazingly, talented woman and she will always be missed. And The Bad Wolves version of this song is very powerful and hit me hard knowing that Dolores was going to sing on that record with them. So you listen and enjoy! You should check out Dreams (love song) & Linger (heartbreak song) both are so beautiful. And thank you for the reaction.
Dolores sang in a Keening style, its the Irish lament for the people that passed, this record at the time, could of got them in a whole pool of trouble, as the Troubles where still ongoing in Northen Ireland, and its a perfect song, at the time of writing im in tears for the wasted lives, and the passing of Dolores
This is the best reaction video I have ever seen. There are still so many songs from the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's for you to get to, so I hope you keep doing this for a long time! (but with MUCH better song recommendations!)
This song actually perfectly compliments “Sunday Bloody Sunday” and also “Please” from U2, who are btw also an Irish band. Would love to see and hear your first reactions to those songs as well!!
Delores was one of the greatest female singers in rock and roll story. I miss her so much. You did experience her talent since she opens her mouth and start singing. Thank you very much for playing her music ❤️
Thank you Hob Nob. I enjoyed that. I've loved this song for years but it is always special to see someone discover it for the first time (this version anyway). I'm still hoping to to enjoy your discovery of Dire Straits at some point. Nothing like this but outrageously good in their own way. Sultans of Swing (Alchemy Live) at the risk of getting boring :D.
She has her lovely Irish cadence to her singing. I mover appreciated the band until she passed away. I'm Irish so I felt bad I never gave them more time when she was alive.
She was actually supposed to do collaborating vocals on Bad Wolves cover of the song, but passed right before recording began. So they did the cover, partially in tribute.
The technique Dolores is using is called keening. It is a style/technique used for Irish ceremonies for the dead and is an expression of deep sorrow/grief.
This was the first song from that got me loving this band. Just an awesome song with a powerful background message. Came out in the early 90's during the war and strife in Iraland
There is singing, or the battle in Ireland. Catholic versus Protestant. By the IRA. I can still remember that from my childhood. Greetings from Spakenburg, The Netherlands.
Wasn't Delores supposed to be going to the studio to record vocals for this track with Bad Wolves right before she died? The Bad Wolves released the song anyway as their tribute. RIP Delores
The first time I heard this announced on the radio I thought there is no way they could do this song justice. No one can... but... I didn't need to be generous with my words to say I didn't hate it.
@@SergioSBloch If you watch the video she was supposed to go into the studio to record her vocals on the very day she died. They then contacted Delores family and asked if they could still release the song. They then proceeded to give all the money they made off of their cover to Delores children.

Been going to Britain.
Because being Irish, it was quite hard, especially in the UK when there was so much tension."
She told Vox magazine in 1994 that the song was written in part as a mechanism to grapple with her identity as an Irish citizen that did not support the actions of the IRA.
"The IRA are not me. I'm not the IRA. The Cranberries are not the IRA. My family are not. ... When it says in the song, 'It's not me, it's not my family,' that's what I'm saying. It's not Ireland".
Its about the whole Irish/English conflict but was inspired by the warrington bomb
@@seamusbob3458 Yep,😊👍
It was 3 boys...that's why at certain points towards the end it's just three boys screaming around the cross and then the b&w shots of them dying.
Exactly, only the IRA are the IRA.
@@MikeTheBike58 the cranberries were west brits
Watching your face light up, as soon as Dolores started to sing, was all I needed to see; to know how good this reaction would be. The Cranberries are truly special.
Right?❤️
One of Irelands best ever bands. Delores had a amazing voice 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
Definitely better than U2 lmao. I want to hear more cause I love the Irish accent
@@lightningmonky7674 I don't know if I'd say "better than U2". This song is better than any U2 song, but overall U2 is pretty iconic.
Here goes some more : NIN, Dinosaur Jr, Tool, Sonic Youth, Disturbed, etc etc. But yeah, you definitely get the point.
And I was blessed to have been able to hit every one of these shows in SLC, fort Collin’s 1995-1999
And sublime, warren G(amongst many other hip hop artists), RATM. Truly awesome time for music. Absolutely lucky for the memories
@@gigistephens4633 Disturbed were more a 2000's band.
Yes!! It was an amazing time to be young. GREAT music was king back then, and so many great bands were "born" from the ashes of the 80s.
Can't stop hearing it.
her voice is indescribable. it's weird because no one can duplicate or improve on her original, yet the cover is still pretty great?
The look of pure joy on your face when she starts singing - you can't ask for a better reaction.
Even with such serious lyrics/topic her voice and talent brings smiles and chills. She had such remarkable control over her voice.
Right? ❤️
Was 10 when this track came out...still rocks sad demise but her voice will never be forgotten 🤘
Great reaction as always Madalina. The Irish brogue and the lilt in her voice made Dolores an absolute one of a kind singer. Her passion will live on through her music for generations
The lyrics are so powerful. She was incredible. One of the best songs about war that I know.
War Pigs,,,????
@@LordEagle Yes! Let's see that soon!
Te recomiendo el tema "1982" de la banda Tren Loco... Saludos
I'm a metalhead but definitely check out live performances of the band. Delores owned the crowd like Su-metal. She was at the top of the list of great performers.
Su-metal....smh...
She was actually supposed to record the cover with the Bad Wolves; but she died just a few days before that was going to happen.
Sad ❤
She had one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard. I was 13 when this song came out. I loved Deloros. It was devastating to hear of her passing 💔
She was amazing ❤
Great honest reaction... it's rare that an original absolutely blows you away when you already like the cover. RIP Dolores.
Thank you so much ❤
I don't think anyone else could sing this with the emotion that she did. And, of course, the entire inspiration of the song is heartbreaking.
I watched a concert on T,V with the Cranberries. Instantly fell in love with Delores voice. Within a month I had 4 CDS the raw raspberry growl of her voice is very unique to her. I have heard noone who could match it. .
Cranberries made a huge success here in Brazil and they still have fans.
That "sound" is called keening and she melts me still whenever I hear her (RIP)
Seeing your reaction reminded me of the first time I heard this song (a couple of decades ago), my head exploded, my skin broke out in goosebumps, and my eyes filled with tears. It was a very powerful experience. RIP Dolores.
I grew up in such an awesome time of music. It literally drives my soul to this day.
One of my fondest memories was seeing Delores O'Riordan and the rest of the Cranberries live, 2009. Excellent.
I am so happy that u discovered the original and feel it
This is a really wonderful reaction, thank you so much! The look on your face when you realize what you've been missing, it's priceless. It's almost like watching one of those videos where deaf people hear for the first time. Many interesting and adorable expressions. Especially at 2:44! And to those criticizing you for smiling, please read the words of P.B. Shelley:
We look before and after,
And pine for what is not:
Our sincerest laughter
With some pain is fraught;
Our sweetest songs are those that tell of saddest thought.
Also, I have never seen a drummer trying so hard also to portray his anguish and pain. What an amazing band.
None of the sides want violence except the extremists on both sides :/
Also the Bass from this song is great fun to play.
"Zombie" is sacred, especially if you know the history of the origin of this song. Relevant as ever.
Watching the pure, music inspired joy you were experiencing, at this song I know well, filled me with much happiness!
This song can only be sung by her.🥺R.I.P. Dolores.
I wouldnt say that. Tommy Vext and Bad Wolves did one HELL of a job with their version of Zombie.
although I don’t think he’s a bad singer, Dolores is unmatched and these covers (like Sound of Silence by Disturbed) are way over produced imo.
Her voice Makes me cry and get goosebumps every time.
One of the best songs of all time! I had tears when I heard Dolores passed. She was so unique and incredible!
Fortunate son anyone?
Zombie was the song that introduced me to rock, it will always have a spot in my Playlist
It’s amazing
There is nothing wrong with loving the song. As long as you know why it was written, and why it makes me cry every time. How can such kick ass tune be about the death of 2 kids, and still be good?
Finally😍😱!!!Thank you for responding to my request🙃lop u biscutee!!😄
Thank you so much
Thank you for explaining a cruel part of history, that some would want forgotten, my Gran was from the Emerald Isle, I remember being shocked by her outbursts, living in London in the 1960's.
Their songs "Linger" and "Dreams" are worth watching. They were almost as popular as Zombie. Fantastic lady and a fantastic group.
You are just smiling because you were amazed by her voice. I can see it in your expression.
However good a cover may be, it can't come close to Dolores O'Riordan. Her voice was a perfect and beautiful mix of rock and traditional Irish singing.
Go raibh suaimhneas síoraí uirthi (eternal rest be upon her).
I saw the Cranberries live at Metropolitan Park in Jacksonville Florida. It was awesome. They had Duran Duran opening for them.
She is my favorite female rockstar . So unique and the message is so well delivered. Really amazing!
Really can recommend the “Rattle And Hum” live version of Sunday Bloody Sunday. Incredible powerful and captivating performance.
And not to forget U2s ‘Raised by wolves’ especially the live version and the classic ‘The Island’ by Paul Brady
R.I.P. Dolores O'Riordan Beautiful voice one of my favorit songs
She was actually supposed to do collaborating vocals on Bad Wolves cover of the song, but passed right before recording began. So they did the cover, partially in tribute.
Is anyone else waiting for the halo lights reflecting off her glasses to perfectly surround both her eyes?
hahahahhaa Ill see what I can do next time about it
The technique Dolores is using is called keening. It is a style/technique used for Irish ceremonies for the dead and is an expression of deep sorrow/grief.
Dolores O'Riordan had such a unique, beautiful voice! RIP
This was the first song from that got me loving this band.
Just an awesome song with a powerful background message. Came out in the early 90's during the war and strife in Iraland
Daria Stavrovich did a metal version of this on The Voice Russia in 2016...Its a must watch!!!!!!!!
There is singing, or the battle in Ireland. Catholic versus Protestant. By the IRA. I can still remember that from my childhood. Greetings from Spakenburg, The Netherlands.
Don't get me wrong the Bad Wolves cover is amazing but nothing compares to this one. I get goosebumps every time I hear it.
Wasn't Delores supposed to be going to the studio to record vocals for this track with Bad Wolves right before she died? The Bad Wolves released the song anyway as their tribute. RIP Delores
That's what I heard also.
RIP Dolores. We were priveleged to witness your talent and kind soul. You meant so much to so many.
