      I had no idea that she was on her way to do a cover when she passed away. When I first(and only once) heard that cover 2yrs ago I automatically thought, "ok, how can they possibly do this song justice and make it feel right?" I was skeptical but the emotion came through. I'll have to give them more credit now that I know she was on board with the idea and that it wasn't a simple money grab or something like that by Bad Wolves.

    Her vocalized 'noises' in this is called Keening in Ireland (5:42 ) . It's a type of mourning song. It very closely resembles someone sobbing over a loved ones passing. She does it justice in this song. I had to tell my own mother my brother passed away. The sound of a mother crying out for her child who is gone is haunting, and I feel those two kids who motivated this song (died in a random bombing on mothers day while buying her a card) were given their proper. Enjoyed the reaction.

    Grew up listening to them when they finally broke into the US music stream being back then that alone was a feat for most bands overseas. That song was written based off Ireland's at that time current events that was going on that most of the world wasn't completely aware of until they released the song and video. Delores did get a bunch flak from Ireland's government because they didn't want the world to know what was really going on there. They were part of the exposure type bands that came to the music scene back in the 80s-90s. Another one of those bands was Gorky Park. Their official video for My Generation shows what some of the things Russian citizens were dealing with up until the fall of the USSR and the Berlin wall fell. For us kids it was eye opening to know and see first hand just how other countries treated their citizens via music videos instead of just reading it in history books or national geographic movies shown in school.

Historically Britain/ England trying to overtake Ireland, - managed to take a small square of the place, but church became involved too. Huge disputes between Catholic and Protestant, fights led to tanks, military,bombs, many killings.
    Idealism and political goals became forgotten, and generations grew up as "zombies", simply fed hatred in a divied society.

    My take is that she was basically saying the continuing conflict among those involved in the IRA war, at the time, existed mainly in the minds of those involved (hence the zombie overtones) but no longer justified the senseless violence, killing, etc., from either side, particularly when it involved the innocent young. Fortunately, a few years after this song was released a ceasefire was issued and remains in effect to this day.

    The lead singer is in irish-born lady that passed away in 2017 from an alcohol-related drowning. Her name was Dolores O'Riordan'. The song she wrote zombie was a result of two young men being killed or boys in 1993 in Northern Ireland caused by the troubles and the IRA. Dolores's voice control at the end of her notes as she rolls off and up as throwing your voice kind of is called keening. It is a practice used in singing at Irish funerals.. a war protest song leaning heavily towards Los pain and becoming numb to the bombs and the guns and child abductions because they needed fighters they were forced. Really difficult time in Ireland during the 20th century from 1916 Forward. Study History!

    I don't know if this mentioned but it was about the Protestant/Catholic civil war in Ireland and the use of child soldiers. Basically how can soldiers kill children, it is like they were zombies. Correct me if I am wrong anyone from Ireland or is Irish but she also used a traditional trill in this song that is used in grieving. All of the "angels" were the children killed in the war.

  • @wayneshilcock3027
    @wayneshilcock3027 3 года назад +2

    That was a great reaction, wasn't sure if you guys were getting the message, because the music was so good, but the more you talked about it, the more you were getting it. The song was written when I think two children were killed from a bomb placed in a trash can, during the conflict between Northern Ireland and England. The cross is for the Catholic and Protestant religion that are in constant conflict from the historical perspective and the children at the bottom of the cross represents the love and innocence of children. The effects of how children are always caught up in adult conflicts with no voice, always to be overlooked by the media and many other oulets. The title Zombie is to represent the nature of war and how we all participate in one way or another but do nothing, almost walking around like Zombies, void of feeling and emotion, with only one thing in common survival. The question is at what cost do we bare, as more and more die at the hands of the powerful few decision makers that have detached themselves from reality. As they fly in their private jets to the next party with their powerful friends, in the meantime bullets and bombs rain down on towns or cities where children and whole families are murdered. RIP Dolores O'Riordan, gone way too soon, miss you.

    The song is basically an anti-war song. More specifically, it's about the Irish Troubles, a time in Ireland from the 60s through the late 90s. There was a lot of conflict between the British military and the IRA (Irish Republican Army, who were either freedom fighters or terrorists, depending who you ask, but who have a history of bombing). In 1993, there was an IRA bomb in Warrington, England that killed two young boys, and Delores couldn't stand anymore. So she wrote this song condemning both sides -- the British and the IRA -- for the senseless and mindless violence, comparing them to zombies because they're so focused on their supposed "cause" that they don't think for themselves or care who gets hurt.

    At 6:30 begins Shawn's "wait what?" red pill type of moment, all the way thru til 6:59, when he goes back to jammin, but we can still see his wheels turning in his head potentially thinking..."We've been led to believe that...and we're told that..."
    There's so many different scenarios we could list to fill in those blanks, but the bottom line is...war has de$troyed so many people, families and countries, that we're always told are soooooo 'privileged' etc and its simply a blatant lie!
    Check out U2's old stuff from late 70s and early 80s. But Bono went woke ish, (i think) Saw them in concert at the Orange Bowl in Miami in 1987 when we were 9th grade, it was awesome! Got pick pocketed $30 but that was par back then but anywho, ya they wrote a lot of fascinating stuff about the wars in Ireland.

    This song was written in response to the senseless killings of 2 young boys (Jonathan Ball 3 y/o and Tim Parry 12 y/o) in Warrington Ireland in1993. The incidents occurred when 2 separate bombs, planted in trash cans by the IRA (The Irish Republican Army) went off while the children were innocently playing in the streets. This was a par for the course back then in Northern Ireland in which a "war" had been going on for decades hence "Since 1916". This was commonly called "The Troubles" and was horrifying yet it sort of became common-place for the soldiers with their "Tanks and their Bombs and their guns" to be heavily present throughout the streets... The reason she says "Bombs" twice in the chorus is in reference to those 2 two boys who were killed.... That's a VERY brief synopses of the song, to the best of my ability. I just felt these were important pieces of history to share..... FACT: her vocals are called "Keening". It's an old Irish mourning ritual performed at funerals that mimics the mournful wails and cries of Mothers and loved ones....Peace :)

    Yup Unfortunately Folks like me you are old enough to understand this just like Other Version Zombie more relevant today than it was back then and they're still fighting but with way more powerful accurate weapons like drones which is a new add on in badwolves that everyone likes in that version so it updates what Dolores was trying to say all those years ago about if nothing changes nothing changes but us and more ways to wipe us out that's why today especially this song means way more than people realize it means even back in 1994 it was about kids being killed in another senseless war that could have been discussed diplomatically but since WW1 the world has been on another collision course of epic disaster like Dolores talks about here in my favorite song of hers Zombie.
    This song has more meaning than all the songs combined in the last 10 years which unfortunately says something about where are species has been heading since 1916 like she said in this powerful song just like my other meaningful favorite song from 1994 Keep talking from Pink Floyd which are society has stopped for along time now and if we don't wake up fast there will be another World War if we keep up the track we're heading on it's a recipe for catastrophe on all levels now never thought possible in 2023 but like me and my WW2 veteran family members that are still alive think specially after the last 3 years if eye awakening moments of nobody saw coming until it was stearing us right in the face and we couldn't look away no more but unfortunately it was to late another massive war in Europe that could have been avoided from communication and diplomacy once again we chose poorly
    It's like one my favorite songs Folks Keep Talking from my favorite bands Pink Floyd when Stephen Hawking did his famous Commercial in the 90s saying as long as Mankind keeps communicating the human race still has a chance to turn it around no matter how close we get to another catastrophic global disaster like now we face in 2023.
